No full-screen ad breaks are documented for Samsung Family Hub refrigerators. Samsung’s ad pilot places promotions on the idle Cover screen on certain U.S. models. To disable those promotions, open Settings → Advertisements → Cover screen Ads and switch the setting off. The option and menu labels can vary by model, software version, and country.
Turn off Cover screen ads
- On the refrigerator’s Family Hub display, open Settings.
- Tap Advertisements.
- Tap Cover screen Ads and switch it Off.
This is Samsung’s documented control for advertisements on the Cover screen. It is different from dismissing one promotion, and Samsung does not say it removes every recommendation or promotional tile that might appear within a separate app or widget. Samsung’s support instructions cover the setting and its availability.
What the ad reports mean
The Cover screen is the idle display shown when the refrigerator panel is not actively in use. It can show information such as weather, news, or calendar items, depending on the setup. Samsung’s pilot adds curated promotions to that experience on certain Family Hub models; it is not the same as a video commercial taking over the display while someone is using the refrigerator. Samsung clarified that the reported format would not appear as a full-screen ad over the Cover screen. That is a clarification about the reported format, not a guarantee about every model or future software release. 9to5Google’s report summarizes the clarification.

If “Advertisements” is missing
First check whether the Family Hub panel has a software update. Samsung’s update path is:
- Swipe down from the top of the display.
- Tap Settings → About Family Hub → Software update.
- Install an available update, then return to Settings and look for Advertisements.
Samsung recommends checking for an update when the ad setting is not present, but an update is not guaranteed to add the option to every model. If it remains absent, use an ad-free Cover screen theme or contact Samsung Family Hub support with your refrigerator model and software version. Samsung’s software-update guide has the update steps.

Use Album or Art mode as a fallback
Samsung says the Album and Art Cover screen themes do not show ads. Look for the theme controls under Screen and Style or Wallpaper and Style; the label depends on the software version. These modes change the idle-screen experience and may not show the informational widgets you prefer, so try the ad toggle first if you want to keep those visible.

Tap the X on an individual Cover screen promotion to dismiss that item. Samsung says this prevents that specific ad from appearing again during its campaign period. It does not turn off the advertising feature globally; use the Cover screen Ads switch for that.

What the setting does—and does not do
Turning off Cover screen ads targets advertising in that part of Family Hub; Samsung’s instructions do not say that it disables core refrigerator functions. It is not an ad blocker for every Family Hub app. Samsung has described the pilot promotions as contextual or non-personal and says this feature does not involve tracking consumers or collecting personal information for the ads. General privacy or personalization settings are not a substitute for the refrigerator’s specific ad switch.
Disconnecting Wi-Fi is not Samsung’s documented fix, and it can interfere with updates, SmartThings control, remote monitoring, and other connected features. There is no need to start with a factory reset, buy an accessory, or replace the refrigerator to use the documented controls.
