Samsung Daily Board can turn a compatible Galaxy tablet that is connected to power into a glanceable display for photos, time, weather, notes, music controls and, on supported setups, selected SmartThings devices or scenes. It is useful as a household dashboard, but it is not a universal smart-home hub: availability and controls depend on the tablet, software, account setup and region.
What Samsung Daily Board does
Daily Board is a charging-mode experience for select Galaxy tablets. Samsung describes it as a way to use a tablet as a picture frame, bulletin board or music controller. Depending on the model and software, its screen may include photos, clock and weather information, calendar details, notes, music controls and SmartThings content. Samsung’s support guide and Galaxy tablet guide material describe these options, but not every tablet offers every widget.
The “smart hub” description is best understood as a visual control point. Daily Board does not, by itself, make the tablet a dedicated SmartThings hub or guarantee universal device control, voice-assistant features or support for every smart-home protocol.

How to turn on Daily Board
- Install available tablet software and Samsung app updates.
- Connect the tablet directly to a USB charger or compatible charging dock, and confirm that it is charging.
- Allow the tablet to remain connected to power. Samsung describes Daily Board as appearing when a tablet is connected to a charger or dock; exact launch behavior can vary.
- If it does not appear, open Settings and search for Daily Board. On some devices, the setting is under Settings → Advanced features → Daily Board.
- Check the model-specific user guide for automatic-start or charging-related options and labels. Samsung’s regional support instructions provide the general activation and settings guidance: Daily Board on Galaxy tablets.
Customize photos, notes, music and SmartThings
Choose slideshow albums
Samsung documents this path: Settings → Advanced features → Daily Board → Slideshow → Select albums. Choose the albums you want displayed. Options for order, transitions, timing and image treatment can differ by software version, so check the controls on your tablet rather than assuming a particular slideshow style.

Add a note or memo
Samsung’s documented workflow is to swipe left on the Daily Board screen, tap the note or writing area, choose a pen, write or draw, then tap Done to save and pin the note. A grocery list or pickup reminder can be handy; avoid putting passwords, access codes or sensitive personal details on a screen visible to others.
Use music controls
Where the music-controller option is available, select a supported app and use the controls Daily Board provides, such as play, pause or skip. The relevant app may need to be installed and signed in, and playback depends on its media-control behavior. Audio comes from the tablet’s speakers or an attached output such as a Bluetooth speaker; the dashboard itself does not guarantee a particular service or sound quality.

Connect SmartThings content
On supported configurations, Daily Board can show SmartThings information or controls. Samsung guide material describes SmartThings content such as home status, camera or energy information, while the Daily Board Google Play listing reported a SmartThings board addition in its May 17, 2026 update. That listing does not establish availability on every tablet.

For a SmartThings device or scene to appear, it generally needs to be registered in the intended SmartThings location, and the tablet needs the relevant account, app, permissions and network access. Some widgets require device registration through the SmartThings mobile app, as described in Samsung guide material. Use the SmartThings app for enrollment, detailed configuration, permissions and troubleshooting; seeing a device in SmartThings does not guarantee it is controllable in Daily Board.

Check whether your Galaxy tablet supports it
Samsung describes Daily Board as available on select Galaxy tablets, including some Galaxy Tab S and Tab A models, rather than every tablet in those families. Older devices, regional or carrier variants and different One UI versions may expose different features. Before buying a tablet specifically for Daily Board, confirm support for the exact model and regional firmware.
- Search Settings for Daily Board; where present, also check Settings → Advanced features → Daily Board.
- Look for the Daily Board app in the Apps screen. Its presence and launch options can vary.
- Install available system and Samsung app updates, then search again.
- Check the model-specific manual. A recent guide for Galaxy tablets describes Daily Board settings and SmartThings content: Galaxy Tab A11 user guide.
Where a charging dashboard makes sense
Kitchen or family counter
Photos, a clock, weather and a grocery note can be useful where people pass frequently. Choose a stable, ventilated stand with reliable cable routing, and keep private calendar details off a screen visible to visitors.

Entryway or living room
A photo slideshow and selected household information can make the tablet a convenient shared display. Consider what guests or passersby can read, especially if SmartThings status or camera-related information is enabled.
Home office or study area
Daily Board can keep a reminder or clock in view while the tablet is parked and charging. If the screen distracts or reflects light, lower brightness or use any available dark-mode or shutdown schedule.

Bedroom
An illuminated screen may be disruptive at night. Check whether your model offers dark mode or scheduled shutdown, lower brightness, or place the tablet outside the bedroom instead.

These options are not interchangeable in every home. A voice-first household may prefer a dedicated display, while an owner of a compatible Galaxy tablet may find Daily Board a low-incremental-cost way to reuse hardware. A wall-mounted dashboard suits a more permanent installation but brings additional setup and security considerations.
Privacy, power and network considerations
- Privacy: Photos, notes, calendar details and smart-home status can be visible to children, visitors or roommates. Avoid displaying sensitive reminders, medical information, access codes or private camera information in a shared space.
- Network: Weather, SmartThings status, streaming controls and some account-connected content may need internet access or active services. Do not assume every function remains available offline.
- Charging and heat: Daily Board is intended for a charging use case. Heat depends on the tablet, brightness, ambient conditions, charger and network activity; use a reputable charger, replace damaged cables and keep the tablet ventilated rather than enclosed in a padded space.
- Screen behavior: Continuous display, dimming, dark mode and scheduled shutdown are model-dependent. Check settings on the actual tablet before choosing a permanent location.
- Dock fit: Connector position, case thickness and charging contacts can affect dock compatibility. A direct USB-C connection is the simplest baseline test.
Troubleshoot common problems
Daily Board does not appear
- Confirm that the tablet indicates it is charging.
- Try a known-good cable and power adapter, then test a direct USB-C connection instead of a dock.
- Restart the tablet and install available system and Samsung app updates.
- Search Settings for Daily Board and check the model-specific manual for a different menu path or regional limitation.
- If the exact model is listed as compatible but the setting remains absent, contact Samsung support.
SmartThings devices or scenes are missing
- Check that the intended Samsung account and SmartThings location are in use.
- Confirm the device or scene is registered in the SmartThings app and that the tablet is online.
- Update Daily Board and SmartThings, then check whether that device type is supported by the Daily Board interface.
Music controls are missing
Confirm that the music app is installed, signed in and producing media controls on the tablet. App compatibility varies; Daily Board should not be assumed to support every streaming service.

Lower brightness, move the device out of direct sun, improve airflow and check whether the model offers dark mode or scheduled shutdown. If it continues to become uncomfortably hot, disconnect it and consult the tablet’s safety guidance rather than leaving it running in an enclosed or padded setting.
Is Daily Board worth using?
If you already own a compatible Galaxy tablet, Daily Board is worth trying as a photo frame and glanceable household screen; your main added costs may be a suitable stand or power setup. It can also suit a SmartThings home when the exact widgets you need are available. If you need voice-first interaction, broad guaranteed device control or a permanent wall panel, compare a dedicated display or purpose-configured system instead. Buying a tablet solely for Daily Board is harder to justify unless you also want it as a normal Android tablet.
