Robot vacuums can now join Matter smart-home systems, so supported models may be controlled alongside lights, locks and other devices in Apple Home, Google Home or Alexa. But compatibility is model-, firmware- and sometimes region-specific: a brand name or an “Works with Alexa” badge is not proof that a vacuum supports Matter.
What Matter changes for a robot vacuum
Matter is a shared smart-home standard. With native Matter support, the vacuum itself can be commissioned into a compatible Matter ecosystem. That differs from a manufacturer’s Alexa skill or Google Home integration, which connects through the vendor’s service; it also differs from Siri Shortcuts, which can trigger actions without making the vacuum a native Matter device. A Matter bridge is another route: a separate hub or software layer can expose a non-Matter product to Matter, but that does not mean the vacuum itself supports the standard.
For supported functions, Matter can make it easier to control products from different manufacturers in one platform, build shared routines and, through Multi-Admin, connect a device to more than one compatible platform. Amazon says Matter devices can connect directly to Alexa without a separate smart-home skill and describes local Matter connections. That can reduce reliance on a vendor skill for supported commands, but it does not make every vacuum function local or eliminate the manufacturer account and app.
The practical benefit depends on what you want to do. A routine that starts cleaning when you leave home may be useful. If you only need to press “start” in the robot maker’s app, Matter may change very little.

Which robot vacuums have documented Matter support?
The examples below have manufacturer documentation or product materials identifying Matter support. They are not a list of every compatible vacuum, and an announcement or product-page claim does not establish that every regional variant has received the necessary firmware. Check your exact model and current software before buying or troubleshooting.

Roborock’s Matter update announcement describes support rolling out to several premium models and names additional products as planned. Treat announced rollout plans as plans, not proof that a particular unit has already received the update. Dreame likewise warns that Matter certification is confirmed per model; an app update or a brand-level compatibility claim is not enough to establish that your vacuum qualifies. What can you control through Matter?
Think of Matter as a common control layer, not a mirror of the manufacturer app. The Matter robotic-vacuum category covers core device functions. Amazon’s documentation, for example, describes operating modes such as idle, cleaning and mapping. A compatible platform may offer basic commands or status, but the controls shown can vary by vacuum, firmware and platform.

- Do not assume: room-by-room cleaning, named-room selection, map editing, zone cleaning, suction or water adjustments, mop-wash settings, obstacle photos, consumable status, or commands to empty the bin or wash mop pads.
Those more detailed features may remain available only in the manufacturer’s app. A vacuum that appears in Apple Home, Google Home or Alexa but offers only a few controls may be working as designed, not failing to pair.

Check these things before you buy or set it up
- Find the precise model number. A product family can include versions with different hardware, firmware or regional support.
- Check the country or region. Use the manufacturer’s support page or product listing for the version sold where you live.
- Confirm the Matter claim and rollout status. Look for model-specific manufacturer documentation, the required firmware and a Matter setup code or commissioning flow. Distinguish a feature announced for a future OTA update from one available on your unit.
- Update the vacuum and its app. The robot generally needs to be online and bound to the correct manufacturer account before you can use the Matter setup flow.
- Check your platform’s requirements. You may need a compatible Matter controller or hub. For Google Home setup, Google specifies a compatible controller, Bluetooth Low Energy 4.2 or later for pairing, and IPv6-enabled Wi-Fi. Alexa requires a compatible Echo or eero device to act as the Matter administrator; check Amazon’s current Matter support information.
- Have the phone and home network ready. Bluetooth is commonly used for initial commissioning, and the phone and controller should be able to discover the vacuum on the local network. Avoid guest Wi-Fi or client-isolated networks during setup.
Requirements differ across platforms and software versions. Dreame’s configuration article describes an iPhone path in which iOS 18.5 or later can add Matter accessories from the Home app without a Matter hub in some circumstances. That is a specific documented path, not a universal rule for every vacuum or Apple Home setup. Consult the current instructions for your model and platform.
General setup: update, commission, test
Menu names differ by brand and firmware, so use this as a workflow rather than a guaranteed sequence of button labels.

- Confirm eligibility first. Check the exact model, region and manufacturer documentation. For Roborock, start with its Matter rollout announcement and the relevant product page. For Dreame, use its Matter configuration guide.
- Update and prepare the robot. In the manufacturer app, make sure the vacuum is online and linked to your account. Install available app and robot firmware updates. Keep the robot docked and powered during an update; reopen the app when it finishes.
- Open the manufacturer’s Matter flow. Look in device settings, smart-home integrations, connected services or a Matter section. Some products may hand the setup directly to a platform app. Dreame’s documented flow starts with the Dreamehome app and a robot bound to the account.
- Add it to your platform. Follow the manufacturer’s handoff, or choose the platform’s option to add a Matter device. Scan the Matter QR code or enter the numeric setup code when asked. Labels vary in Apple Home, Google Home and Alexa, so follow the current app prompts.
- Test before building automations. Try a basic command, pause or stop it, return the robot to its dock, and check its status. Then test voice control and routines. Keep the manufacturer app: it may still be needed for maps, maintenance and detailed cleaning settings.
Matter Multi-Admin can allow a device to be shared with multiple compatible platforms, but support and the commissioning process depend on the product and platforms. Add it to one platform first and confirm basic operation before adding another.

If setup does not work
The Matter option is missing
First check whether the exact model and regional SKU are supported. A Matter option may be absent because the feature is not available for that variant, the firmware rollout has not reached it, or the robot is not bound to the account you are using. Update the app and robot, confirm the robot is online, then sign out and back in or restart the app. Search the manufacturer’s support site for the model-specific procedure. Contact support before factory-resetting: a reset can disrupt maps and setup without making an unsupported model Matter-compatible.

The code is rejected or the vacuum is not found
Check that Bluetooth is enabled, the robot is online, and the phone and controller can communicate on the same local network. Make sure you are using the correct code and that the device is not already commissioned to another Matter fabric. A guest network, VPN, client isolation or restrictive firewall can interfere with discovery. Google specifically lists Bluetooth Low Energy and IPv6-enabled Wi-Fi among its Matter setup requirements; consult your platform’s current guidance if pairing continues to fail.
The vacuum appears but has only a few controls
This can be a normal limitation of the Matter implementation or the platform’s interface. Compare the available controls with the manufacturer app. If room selection, mop settings or map tools are missing, use the vendor app for those features rather than assuming a reset will add them.
The vacuum disappears later
Check whether it is still online in the manufacturer app and whether it remains in the platform’s device list. A network change, isolated IoT network, removed Matter pairing or account change can interrupt access. Restart the vacuum and controller, then follow the manufacturer’s instructions to re-add it if necessary. Do not factory-reset unless the support procedure for your model calls for it.

Roborock listed a US launch price of $1,599.99 for the Saros 10 in its 2025 announcement; that is historical launch pricing, not a current quote. Prices change, and the evidence for the other listed models does not establish a dependable current price. Compare live listings only after confirming the model’s Matter support in your region.
The bottom line: Matter is a real improvement for robot vacuums that implement it, particularly if you want cross-platform routines or less dependence on a proprietary voice integration. It is not a blanket upgrade for every vacuum or a substitute for the manufacturer app. The useful question is not whether a brand supports Matter, but whether your exact model, in your region and on its current firmware, exposes the controls you will actually use.
