Roborock’s lawn mowers are more than robot vacuums with blades. The company is combining wire-free mapping, RTK/VSLAM and—in its flagship—360-degree LiDAR with all-wheel drive, active steering, suspension and edge-focused cutting. That could make the products useful on complicated lawns, but “wire-free” does not mean setup-free, and several headline functions depend on model, region or future firmware updates.
The lineup is a family, not one mower
Roborock’s US lawn site currently lists three principal products: RockMow X1 LiDAR, RockMow X1 and RockNeo Q1. European pages use different names, including RockMow Z1 and S1, while comparison pages reference regional variants such as X120H and Q110H. Confirm the exact model sold in your country before comparing specifications or prices.

Roborock announced its US lawn-market entry at CES 2026, describing the range as an extension of its work in AI algorithms, environmental perception and precision motion control. That experience is relevant, but lawn mowing adds problems a vacuum does not face: wet grass, mud, slopes, satellite obstructions, wildlife, blades, theft and changing outdoor conditions.

What is genuinely different about the navigation?
RockMow X1 LiDAR
The flagship combines 360-degree 3D LiDAR with VSLAM, centimeter-level positioning and vision-based obstacle detection. Roborock claims the scanner can process up to 200,000 points per second and see as far as 230 feet. Those are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements. LiDAR can provide useful structure when trees, walls or buildings make a clear satellite view difficult, but it does not eliminate every positioning failure.

RockMow X1 and RockNeo Q1
The X1 and Q1 use full-band RTK plus VSLAM. RTK is satellite positioning corrected by a reference station or network; VSLAM uses cameras and visual features to estimate position and build a map. The X1 adds quad-vision obstacle sensing, while the Q1 uses stereo vision. Sensor fusion is best understood as redundancy: one system may help when another becomes less reliable, rather than guaranteeing uninterrupted autonomy.
Wire-free is not setup-free. You still need a charging station, suitable reference-station placement where required, an initial map, exclusion zones and a yard cleared of hazards. A virtual boundary is only as reliable as the mower’s sensors, positioning, map and software.
Terrain hardware is the X1’s main pitch
Roborock lists all-wheel drive, patented active steering, dynamic suspension and a floating cutting deck for the X1 models. It claims operation on slopes up to 80% (about 38.7 degrees) and the ability to cross obstacles up to 3.1 inches high. The X1’s stated cutting-height range is 1.6 to 3.5 inches, and the system uses a double-layer disc with six blades.

- Active steering: is intended to reduce dragging and turf scuffing during turns.
- Suspension and a floating deck: can help the deck follow uneven ground.
- Six blades: may increase cutting throughput, but blade count alone does not prove cut quality.
The 80% figure is a claimed maximum, not a universal recommendation. Wetness, loose soil, tire grip, direction of travel, turning and interrupted slopes can change the result. Test a mower cautiously on your own turf rather than assuming a laboratory or marketing maximum applies everywhere.
Edge cutting: close, but not necessarily perfect
Roborock advertises approximately 1.2 inches (3 cm) of edge precision. Its optional PreciEdge module is compatible with the RockMow X series. Roborock qualifies the figure as a structural hardware distance, so actual cutting depends on the boundary and software logic.
That is not the same as trimming every blade beside a vertical wall, raised curb, mulch bed, loose gravel or irregular tree ring. The PreciEdge accessory also reduces obstacle clearance to 2.4 inches. Many owners should still expect occasional string-trimmer work, especially around raised edging and obstacles.

Obstacle, pet and wildlife safety
The X1 LiDAR uses vision-LiDAR fusion; the X1 uses quad vision; and the Q1 uses stereo vision. Roborock describes avoidance of static objects and people or animals. The X1 pages also mark some “crossable obstacle” and classification functions as coming through OTA updates. The Q1 advertises a wildlife-friendly mode that pauses during preset hours. Scheduling reduces disturbance; it cannot guarantee detection of every hedgehog, rabbit or other animal.
- Remove toys, hoses, cables, tools and pet waste.
- Keep children and pets away during mapping and initial runs.
- Create exclusion zones around ponds, steps, drop-offs, flower beds and loose gravel.
- Inspect for small animals and follow the manual’s blade and slope instructions.
- Do not treat obstacle detection as a substitute for supervision.
What the app and connectivity actually provide
Roborock advertises mapping, multi-zone management, zone-specific settings, schedules, mowing patterns, progress tracking, anti-theft alarms, PIN lockout, rain sensing, automatic return to the charger and resume-after-rain behavior. Availability varies by model, region, firmware and app version. Some mapping, obstacle and pattern functions on the X1 pages are explicitly planned OTA features, not universal launch capabilities.
Roborock support says its mowers support 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi. Cellular connectivity varies: certain configurations use an optional 4G module, a user SIM or an included eSIM. Local mowing autonomy, in-home app access and remote tracking are different things. A Wi-Fi or cellular interruption may affect remote visibility or anti-theft functions even if a mapped mowing routine can continue. Check the exact US configuration at the connectivity support page.
Q1: the accessible option, not a smaller X1
The Q1 is listed from $1,299 on Roborock’s US product page and claims up to one-quarter acre per day. It retains RTK/VSLAM navigation, stereo-vision obstacle avoidance, automatic mapping, multi-zone control, 1.2-inch edge precision, rain sensing and IPX6 water resistance. It is the likely fit for a smaller, simpler lawn, but it should not be treated as equivalent to the LiDAR-equipped, AWD X1 platform.
IPX6 means resistance to powerful water jets under the stated test, not submersion or pressure-washer permission. Roborock’s warranty exclusions also limit coverage for high-pressure water and other water damage.

The $1,299 Q1 figure is a starting price, not necessarily the cost of a complete installation. Budget for possible PreciEdge hardware, a garage, 4G/anti-theft equipment, RTK mounting or extension hardware, rough-terrain wheels, blades, taxes and cellular service. Roborock has not supplied a dependable US price for every X1 variant in the provided material.

Under Roborock’s US lawn-mower warranty, the main unit is generally covered for two years on the RockNeo Q110H and three years on listed RockMow X variants. The battery is covered for two years; blades and other consumables are excluded. Accessories such as the garage, 4G module, RTK hardware, wheels, cables and PreciEdge are generally listed with two-year coverage. Misuse, unauthorized parts, collisions, animals, dropping, excessive loads and operation outside specified temperatures can limit coverage.
How it compares with alternatives
Mammotion LUBA 3 AWD is a direct premium rival emphasizing AWD, wire-free operation, larger-lawn capability and NetRTK/iNavi connectivity. Listed variants were around $2,399–$2,499 on sale when crawled in August 2026, but promotions change.
Segway Navimow offers a broader price ladder, with some US models listed from about $999. Model-by-model coverage, terrain handling and base-station requirements matter more than the starting price. TerraMow is another camera/LiDAR-oriented wire-free option, but buyers should verify official availability, parts and support before treating it as a like-for-like purchase.
For small, disconnected or infrequently mowed lawns, a conventional electric mower plus a trimmer may remain simpler and cheaper. Robot mowers work best as maintenance machines that remove a little grass frequently; they are not always substitutes for a catch-up cut on overgrown turf.
Who should consider Roborock?
- Good fit: owners wanting wire-free mapping, scheduled frequent mowing, multi-zone control, or AWD for uneven and sloped ground.
- Potentially strong fit: complex gardens with trees, shade, walls and narrow passages—especially where the X1 LiDAR’s sensor fusion is useful.
- Be cautious: properties with mud, deep ditches, steps, water hazards, loose gravel, unprotected drops or acreage beyond the model’s tested coverage.
- Look elsewhere: if you want a no-app appliance, mature local dealer service, or flawless trimming against every boundary.
Buying checklist
- Confirm the exact country model and current retail availability.
- Check whether the feature you need is live or marked as a future OTA update.
- Measure lawn area, passage widths and the charging/reference-station location.
- Decide whether LiDAR, AWD, 4G, a garage or PreciEdge is actually necessary.
- Map exclusion zones for ponds, beds, play areas and drop-offs.
- Compare usable coverage, accessories, blades, battery terms and service—not just sticker price.
- Plan for residual edge trimming and seasonal overgrowth.
Verdict: Roborock is notable because it is addressing the difficult parts of robotic mowing—positioning, terrain, edges and software control—rather than merely attaching a cutter to an indoor robot. The X1 LiDAR is the technically distinctive model; the Q1 is the lower-cost entry point. Whether either is the right buy depends on your lawn, the current firmware and regional configuration, and the complete accessory and support cost.
