A TV HDMI-input repair can land in the low-to-mid hundreds of dollars, but the final price depends on whether a technician can replace the connector or must replace a larger circuit board. Best Buy lists a national average of $255 for TV input repairs, updated in April 2024; that is a useful benchmark, not a guaranteed price for replacing one HDMI socket or a verified 2026 rate. Before paying for service, rule out a bad cable, source device, input setting, or signal-format mismatch.
How much does it cost to replace a TV HDMI port?
There is no single reliable national price for an HDMI-port replacement. The repair may involve soldering a connector, swapping an input board, or replacing a mainboard. Best Buy reports a national average of $255 for TV input repairs and $395 for TV main system board repairs; its page says prices vary by provider and region and identifies the averages as updated in April 2024. A quote can include inspection, disassembly and reassembly, parts, shipping or service-center handling, pickup or delivery, and post-repair testing. A low labor-only figure may exclude the board, transport, or diagnosis. Ask for the installed total before authorizing work.

Best Buy says TVs under 42 inches can be brought to a store for repair, while TVs 42 inches and larger may receive in-home repair. Some in-store repairs are shipped to a service center and are usually returned in one to two weeks, according to Best Buy’s TV repair information. Those are Best Buy service details, not a timing guarantee for other providers. Best Buy also states that its TV and home-theater services carry a 90-day workmanship warranty, subject to terms and service limitations; check the service warranty details.

Check whether the HDMI port is actually faulty
“No signal” does not by itself prove that the TV socket is broken. Samsung recommends trying another port, cable, and external device; Sony also advises checking input selection, power, and output-format compatibility. Use this sequence before arranging repair.
- Turn on the TV and source device, then select the input number matching the cable’s TV port.
- Unplug and reconnect the HDMI cable at both ends. Check that it seats firmly without forcing it.
- Try a known-good cable, then try the original cable and source on another TV HDMI port.
- Connect a different known-working source device to the suspected port.
- Power-reset both devices: turn them off, disconnect power briefly, reconnect, and test again.
- Check the source’s output resolution and refresh rate, HDR settings, and HDCP compatibility. If lowering resolution or refresh rate restores the picture, the problem may be compatibility or signal integrity rather than a dead port.
- Inspect the socket with the devices disconnected. Look for bent or missing contacts, debris, a loose shell, broken plastic, or a connector pushed into the chassis.
- Note whether audio works without video and whether the signal changes when the cable is gently moved. Do not wiggle or apply pressure to force a connection.

Clues that point toward a damaged port
- The same working cable and device function on another TV input but not on this one.
- Several known-good source devices fail on that single input.
- The socket is loose, displaced, visibly damaged, or will not retain the plug.
- The signal cuts in and out with slight cable movement.
- The TV reports no signal despite a confirmed working source and cable.
If every HDMI input fails, the cause may instead be the mainboard, software, power, HDCP behavior, or another shared part of the system. If one source fails on every TV, investigate that source or its cable. Audio without video can also result from output format, firmware, cable bandwidth, HDCP, or board-level failure.
What might the technician replace?
The HDMI connector
On a connector-only repair, the technician opens the TV, reaches the circuit board, removes the damaged receptacle, solders in a replacement, and checks the board pads and traces. This is a board-level soldering job, not simply installing an inexpensive external accessory. Replacement connectors are model-specific: iFixit’s Samsung HDMI connector listing, for example, identifies compatibility with various Samsung 4K UHD and SUHD series. Verify the exact TV model and board number rather than relying on screen size or brand alone.

An input or daughterboard
Some TVs put HDMI sockets on a separate, replaceable input board. A technician may swap the board and reconnect its cables instead of desoldering the socket. This can avoid repairing torn pads, but the board itself may cost more than a connector.
The mainboard or damaged traces
Other designs mount HDMI sockets directly to the main system board. A forced plug can crack solder joints or tear pads and traces; an electrical failure can also affect HDMI protection or switching components. In these cases a simple connector replacement may not restore the port, and the repair may require trace work or a mainboard replacement. The exact TV model and extent of damage determine the route.
What affects the final quote?
- Board design and parts supply: Whether the connector is soldered to the mainboard or a separate board, and whether the right board revision is available.
- Damage extent: A clean connector swap differs from repairs involving torn pads, traces, protection components, or multiple failed inputs.
- Access and handling: Screen size, weight, thin construction, and panel fragility affect how the TV can be opened and supported.
- Skill and testing: Microsoldering, careful board diagnosis, and verifying high-bandwidth features require more than basic disassembly.
- Location and transport: In-home service, travel, shipping, pickup, wall-mount removal, and reinstallation may be separate line items.
- Parts condition: Ask whether the replacement is new, used, refurbished, or aftermarket.
Warranty, protection plans, and service routes
Manufacturer warranty and authorized service
A warranty may cover an HDMI failure caused by a defect in materials or workmanship, but physical damage from force or impact may be excluded. Coverage varies by model, cause, and terms, so check the warranty for the exact TV before paying for repair. LG’s U.S. warranty page describes direct out-of-warranty service using genuine parts and says a diagnostic fee may be waived if you proceed with repair; the fee can change. Its warranty and service information should be checked for current terms. A separate LG TV limited-warranty document describes one-year parts and labor coverage for the models covered by that document; do not assume it applies to every current LG TV. Retailer protection plans
Coverage depends on the plan and cause of failure. A hardware defect or ordinary failure may qualify, while a socket physically broken by force, impact, or cable strain may be treated as accidental damage and excluded. Some plans address power-surge damage, subject to their terms. Do not buy a plan expecting it to cover a fault that has already occurred; eligibility depends on when coverage began and the contract.

As an example rather than a universal price, Best Buy’s page lists a two-year plan at $159.99 and a five-year plan at $279.99 for a $1,299.99 TV. Plan pricing varies by product and may change. The same page says covered repairs have no out-of-pocket parts or labor costs, subject to plan terms, and excludes accidental damage. DIY is realistic only for someone equipped and experienced to handle television electronics and the panel safely. A board swap is generally less demanding than replacing a soldered connector, but both require correct parts and careful handling.
Board swap versus connector soldering
For a board swap, match the replacement to the exact TV model and board number or revision. Connector replacement requires board-level soldering or hot-air rework and diagnostic skill; lifting PCB pads during desoldering can turn a repairable board into a more serious failure. The small size of the connector does not make the whole job simple or inexpensive.
Risks to weigh
- Cracking or delaminating the display while opening or moving a large, thin TV.
- Pinching ribbon cables, losing grounding shields or screws, or causing electrostatic damage.
- Electric shock from stored charge or damage to nearby components.
- Using the wrong board revision or connector.
- Damaging HDMI protection circuitry or lifting board pads during soldering.
A novice should not open a large OLED or ultra-thin TV solely because a replacement connector is available. Compare the cost of professional diagnosis with the risk of making the panel or board unusable.

Workarounds if one HDMI input still works
Move the device to another port
If a spare input works, connecting the source there is the simplest workaround. Change the TV input selection as needed. Some models reserve particular inputs for features such as eARC or higher-bandwidth gaming, so check the TV manual before assuming every port supports the same functions.
Add an HDMI switch
A switch can connect several source devices to one working TV input, but it does not repair the TV. Choose against the capabilities your setup actually needs: resolution, refresh rate, HDR, HDCP, CEC, and, where relevant, eARC. A switch may not restore eARC or solve widespread HDMI-circuit damage. Do not assume it will preserve 4K/120, VRR, Dolby Vision, or protected-content playback without verifying the exact switch, TV, source, and cable combination.
Use a receiver, soundbar, or another connection
An AV receiver or soundbar with HDMI switching can suit a home-theater setup, but it adds another compatibility point for HDR, high refresh rates, VRR, Dolby Vision, and HDCP. Depending on your TV and source, computer video adapters or older component/composite inputs may be alternatives; optical audio carries sound only. Adapters cannot add features that the connected devices do not support, and some connections may lose resolution, HDR, refresh rate, or audio formats.
Is the repair worth paying for?
Compare the complete installed quote—including diagnosis, parts, labor, transport, and testing—with the cost of a comparable replacement TV. There is no universal percentage cutoff: screen size, picture quality, age, replacement availability, and the condition of the rest of the television all matter.

Do not decide using the connector’s part price or a rigid “repair only below half the replacement cost” rule. A premium set may justify a larger repair bill; an older budget model with other faults may not.
Questions to ask before authorizing service
- Is this quote for connector-only soldering, input-board replacement, or mainboard replacement?
- Is diagnosis included, and is its fee credited if I approve the repair?
- Are the parts new, used, refurbished, or aftermarket?
- Will the board match my exact TV model and board revision?
- Does the total include shipping, pickup, delivery, travel, and wall-mount work?
- What happens to the price if you find torn pads, traces, or other damage?
- What workmanship warranty applies, and are parts covered separately?
- Will you test every HDMI port after repair, including 4K, HDR, high refresh rate, ARC/eARC, CEC, and gaming features where the TV supports them?
- What is the expected turnaround, and is there a no-repair/no-fee policy?
Provide the full model number, a description of the tests you already performed, and photos of any visible socket damage. Ask for the diagnosis and installed total in writing before work begins.
