The Nebula Capsule Air is a battery-powered, soda-can-sized Google TV projector that’s easy to move between a bedroom, dorm, or small apartment. It’s a practical choice for casual viewing in a dark room, but its 720p resolution and 150 ANSI-lumen brightness make it a poor substitute for a bright television or a sharper home projector.
What the Capsule Air is—and what it isn’t
The Capsule Air is a portable DLP/LED projector from Nebula, an Anker brand. Its cylindrical body measures about 2.6 × 2.6 × 5.5 inches and weighs roughly 650 grams (22.9 ounces), so it can sit on a nightstand or shelf and be packed away when you’re done. It has a built-in battery, Google TV, automatic focus and keystone correction, and officially licensed Netflix support advertised by Nebula. It is designed for personal entertainment, not bright-room viewing, presentations, or serious home theater.
Google TV means you can stream without connecting a separate streaming stick, although initial setup requires Wi-Fi and account sign-ins. Nebula advertises access to more than 30,000 apps through Google Play; app availability and Netflix access can vary by region and software. HDMI and USB-C inputs provide other source options, such as a laptop or compatible streaming device. Don’t assume that every phone, app, or downloaded video will work through every cable or mirroring method.
Why its size works in a small room
A small projector is useful when you don’t have room for a permanent TV stand or ceiling installation. Move the Capsule Air from a bedroom to a living room, then store it when the surface needs to be clear. Its automatic focus and keystone correction can reduce setup effort, while optional stands make it easier to aim the image at a wall or ceiling.

The projector’s size does not eliminate the need for throw distance: image size still depends on how far it is from the projection surface. Nebula comparison material lists a projection range of about 10 to 100 inches, but the advertised maximum is not a promise of a bright, detailed 100-inch picture. Launch coverage reports that the company recommends about 60 inches for the best image quality. In a compact room, a roughly 40- to 60-inch image may be a more comfortable and convincing target than the largest possible picture. See Nebula’s projector comparison guide and launch coverage.
For ceiling viewing, use a stable stand that can angle the lens upward; don’t balance the projector precariously on furniture. Keep the lens unobstructed, leave ventilation openings clear, and avoid placing the unit where someone crossing the room will block the beam. Align it physically with the surface first, then use keystone correction sparingly: digital correction is convenient, but it is not a replacement for good placement.
Picture quality: dark-room friendly, not a TV replacement
The Capsule Air’s listed resolution is 1280 × 720 (720p), and its rated brightness is 150 ANSI lumens. Those specifications suit modest-size viewing in a darkened room—not a sunlit living room or a backyard screening before sunset. Ambient light washes out the image and weakens perceived contrast. Nebula comparison information lists a 400:1 contrast ratio, but specifications alone do not establish how the projector performs in every room or setup.

- At a smaller image size: 720p can be acceptable for casual films and shows at normal viewing distances.
- At a larger size or close seating distance: menus, subtitles, text, and fine detail are more likely to look soft than on a 1080p projector or television.
- On a better surface: A white or light-colored matte wall or projector screen will usually be preferable to a textured, glossy, or strongly colored wall.
Think of “up to 100 inches” as a stated projection maximum, not the size at which this 150-lumen projector will necessarily look its best. If you need a large, bright image, watch with the lights on, or sit close to the screen, choose a brighter, higher-resolution projector—or a television—instead.
Battery life and sound
The built-in battery is rated at 34 Wh. Nebula’s battery guidance gives approximate runtimes of 1 hour 30 minutes in Standard mode and up to 2 hours in Eco mode. Treat two hours as a maximum rating, not a guaranteed runtime at the brightest setting: brightness mode, streaming, Wi-Fi, speaker volume, and battery age all affect how long it lasts. Charge it before traveling, and allow for setup time if you’re counting on one movie. Eco mode or a compatible USB-C power bank can help extend a session; an external battery adds gear and cost. The built-in speaker is rated at 5 W. That keeps setup simple for solo viewing in a bedroom or hotel room, but a Bluetooth speaker may be preferable for a group, action movie, or music. An external speaker needs its own charge and pairing, and Bluetooth performance can affect lip-sync depending on the source and connection.

Mounting options and the real cost of flexibility

The right accessory depends on how you plan to use the projector. The base may be enough for a simple angle adjustment; a battery tripod makes more sense if you need extra height or longer untethered viewing. A gimbal stand is useful when frequent repositioning or ceiling projection matters. Don’t add accessories automatically: price the full setup, including any screen, speaker, or extra battery you actually need. It’s a good fit if you live in a dorm or small apartment, want to put away your screen when it’s not in use, move a projector between rooms, or watch casually from bed in a room you can darken. It’s especially appealing if integrated streaming and easy placement matter more to you than fine detail or high brightness.

Choose something else if you need a bright picture in daytime or outdoors, want 1080p or 4K detail, regularly watch with a large group, or need a dependable everyday TV replacement. It’s also a weak match for buyers prioritizing the largest, brightest image for gaming. The available material does not establish independent measurements of input lag, actual brightness, fan noise, color accuracy, or real-world battery runtime, so those qualities should not be assumed from the specifications alone.
When a Capsule 3 is the better choice
If sharpness matters more than the smallest possible body, compare the Capsule Air with the Nebula Capsule 3. The current U.S. collection listed the Capsule 3 as a 1080p Google TV mini projector, at $399.99 on sale versus a $529.99 reference price during the research pass. Those prices may change. The Capsule 3 is the more logical option if you expect to use larger images or want Full HD; the Air is for buyers who value a particularly compact, battery-powered design. Nebula also sells the Capsule 3 Laser, with listed specifications of 1080p resolution, 300 ANSI lumens, an 8 W Dolby Audio speaker, and up to 2.5 hours of Eco-mode battery life. It costs more, and prices shown on Nebula pages have varied; check the product page for current details.

Price and availability
During the research pass, Nebula’s U.S. portable-projector collection listed the Capsule Air at $279.99, reduced from a $399.99 reference price. This is a U.S. price signal, not a guaranteed current price; sale pricing, bundles, and accessory availability can change. Check the official U.S. collection before purchase. The projector launched in 2024, so launch promotions and original pricing should not be mistaken for current offers.
