Lockin’s V7 Max is designed to avoid routine manual charging and battery replacement, but it is not battery-free—and “ever” is not a proven lifetime guarantee. Announced at CES 2026, the mortise-style lock uses an infrared optical-power system called AuraCharge to keep internal rechargeable batteries topped up. Its US price, shipping date, outage runtime and long-term battery life remain unconfirmed.
What Lockin announced
The Lockin True AI Smart Lock V7 Max debuted at CES 2026. Lockin describes it as a vein-recognition smart lock with wireless optical charging and says it received a CES Innovation Awards Best of Innovation honor. That award recognizes an innovation submission; it does not establish long-term reliability, security, battery lifespan or retail availability. Lockin’s CES announcement and its press release frame the central promise as “eternal” or zero-maintenance power. The practical claim is narrower: the system is intended to remove routine manual charging.
Launch coverage describes a mortise-style lock, rather than an interior retrofit that simply attaches to an existing deadbolt. Reported features include palm- and finger-vein recognition, 3D facial recognition, touchscreen entry, cameras, and AI-based detection or event interpretation. Those are announced features, not independently tested performance. Ecosystem compatibility and feature availability may vary by market and firmware; the available information does not establish that every advertised feature will work identically in the US or be available at launch. - A transmitter plugged into household power is placed inside the home.
- It sends infrared light toward a receiver on or in the lock.
- The receiver converts that optical energy into electrical power.
- The power maintains the lock’s internal rechargeable battery, reducing the need to remove it for charging.
Lockin and product coverage describe a maximum distance of up to four meters, or about 13 feet. Treat that as a claimed maximum, not a promise that every installation will work at that distance. The transmitter needs a usable path to the receiver; a beam blocked by a person, pet, furniture or poor alignment cannot continuously replenish the battery. This is wireless power delivery, not charging through arbitrary walls or around corners. Lockin’s CES page describes the system, while T3’s overview reports the range and that charging stops when the beam is obstructed.

Lockin describes AuraCharge as infrared rather than laser-based and cites TÜV Rheinland and SGS safety certifications. Those are manufacturer claims; the standards, certificate numbers, test scope and installation conditions matter. “Certified” should not be read as risk-free under every placement or use. Residential Systems also reports the certification claims.
Does it really have no battery?
No. Available reporting indicates that the V7 Max has internal rechargeable batteries that act as an energy buffer. Chinese launch coverage reports a 6,735-mAh main battery and a 2,500-mAh backup battery, but those capacities have not been established here through an English-language US specification sheet or manual. The figures come from Chinese launch coverage.
The useful distinction is between a battery-free lock and a battery-maintenance-free lock. The V7 Max appears to be the latter in normal use: an external powered transmitter keeps internal storage topped up. That could eliminate routine charging or battery swaps while the power path works. It cannot establish that the batteries will never lose capacity, or that the transmitter, receiver, adapter, motor or other components will never need service. A claim about operation “forever” is marketing language, not a demonstrated lifetime result. Lockin makes a similar distinction for its solar products, which also retain an internal battery. Lockin’s buyer guidance explains that its solar locks are not battery-free.

What if the beam is blocked or the power goes out?
When the beam is blocked, charging reportedly pauses. The internal battery is intended to buffer the lock, but the sources available do not establish how long it will keep working without optical power or whether the V7 Max automatically resumes charging after the beam is restored. Alignment and transmitter placement may therefore matter more in a real home than the headline range.
A household outage or failed power adapter raises a related question. The battery should provide some stored energy, but a verified runtime is not available. Before relying on this as an exterior entry lock, buyers should confirm from the final manual:

- How long the lock operates with the transmitter unpowered or disconnected.
- Whether it has an emergency USB-C or other external power input.
- Whether a mechanical key is included and how the door can be opened from inside.
- Whether the transmitter restarts and resumes charging automatically after power returns.
- What fallback access remains if biometrics, the network or the app are unavailable.
Chinese launch coverage reports mechanical keys and multiple electronic access methods, but that does not substitute for a final regional manual confirming the exact backup behavior. A brief beam interruption should not be assumed to lock anyone out; the defensible concern is that sustained loss of charging can drain the internal battery, with runtime still unverified.
Installation is a major part of the equation
Because the V7 Max is described as a mortise-style lock, it may require replacing the existing lock body and matching the door’s preparation—not just mounting a motor on the inside. Buyers should confirm mortise dimensions, door thickness, backset, handle and frame clearances, exterior exposure requirements, and whether the transmitter can be positioned with a clear path to the receiver. A changed door position, misalignment or obstruction could affect the optical path as well as ordinary mechanical operation.

Lockin’s renovation guidance illustrates the kinds of door-fit constraints smart-lock buyers should check, but Veno-series specifications are not V7 Max specifications. Renters and residents in shared buildings should also get permission before replacing exterior hardware or installing a powered transmitter. Whether an electrician is needed depends on the final transmitter and its power arrangement; the available information does not establish that installation requirement.
Power convenience is not a security verdict
Biometrics, cameras and AI features do not by themselves prove that a lock is secure. Before buying, look for clear answers about whether biometric templates are stored locally or sent to the cloud, what encryption protects data and remote access, whether remote unlocking requires a hub or cloud service, how firmware updates and vulnerability reports are handled, and what happens if the company ends server support. Also consider the mechanical cylinder, physical attack resistance and dependable fallback entry.
The available launch information is not enough to make a strong independent security or privacy assessment. The same applies to biometric accuracy and AI detection: these features are announced, but their real-world performance and data handling need documentation and testing. A lock can remain powered and still be inconvenient or unavailable because of a network outage, app failure, motor problem, misaligned door or failed biometric read.

Price and availability: US buyers should wait for confirmation
Lockin’s US-facing sites show the V7 Max in product navigation, but the available storefront information does not establish a US retail price, live checkout page or confirmed US shipping date. Earlier coverage expected summer 2026 availability, but an expectation is not a confirmed launch. Check the Lockin US store and North America site for a live purchase listing and terms before making plans.
Chinese coverage reported an April 2026 preorder price of 4,799 yuan. That is a China-market figure, not a US MSRP, and should not be converted into a US price assumption. Until Lockin publishes regional pricing, warranty terms, shipping and support details, the V7 Max is better treated as a product to watch than a confirmed US purchase.
What about Lockin’s solar smart locks?
Lockin’s Veno Solar Palm and Veno Solar Face are more immediately purchasable US alternatives listed on the official storefront. The storefront showed each at $159.99 on sale, against a displayed $199.99 price, at the time reflected in the available research. They use solar-assisted charging and an internal rechargeable battery; they are not AuraCharge products and are not battery-free. Solar may be a poor fit for a shaded entryway or a buyer who wants no dependence on sunlight or battery aging.
The Veno Pro is another current Lockin option, shown at $239.99 against $299.99 on Lockin’s product page, but it is a conventional battery-powered video lock rather than a way to eliminate routine battery maintenance. Who should wait for the V7 Max?
The V7 Max is worth watching if you specifically want to reduce smart-lock battery chores and your door can accept a mortise replacement with a reliable transmitter position. Its optical charging is an interesting approach that does not depend on daylight. But wait for a US price and shipping date, the installation manual, tested outage behavior, warranty and battery-service terms, and independent hands-on experience—especially if your household depends on reliable exterior access.

If you need a lock now, compare available models based on door compatibility, backup entry, privacy practices and how much charging or battery maintenance you are willing to accept. Lockin’s solar models are a current option for some homes, but they solve the problem differently and retain internal batteries. The V7 Max’s strongest defensible promise is avoiding routine manual charging under suitable operating conditions, not eliminating batteries or guaranteeing a lifetime without service.
