The Lockin V7 Max is a CES 2026 smart lock built around an unusual power system: a plugged-in indoor transmitter beams infrared energy to the lock, so Lockin says owners will not need routine battery changes or recharging. That is not the same as proving the lock contains no backup battery, and it does not make the lock a straightforward upgrade for most U.S. deadbolts. The V7 Max is a mortise lock, so door compatibility and installation may matter more than its charging technology.
How the V7 Max’s wireless charging works
Lockin calls its system AuraCharge. A separate transmitter plugs into an indoor wall outlet and sends optical power—described by Lockin as eye-safe infrared—to a receiver on the lock’s interior assembly. PCWorld’s CES report describes a maximum separation of about 13 feet (4 meters) and says the transmitter and receiver need an unobstructed line of sight. This is wireless optical power transmission, not Qi-style charging from a pad and not solar charging. The transmitter still needs household electricity, and the lock’s power link depends on its placement relative to that transmitter. Lockin says AuraCharge can operate across weather and lighting conditions, but that is a manufacturer claim; the available coverage does not establish long-term performance in real homes.
What the power arrangement means in a home
- You need an outlet near the entry and a suitable indoor position for the transmitter.
- The receiver needs a clear path to the transmitter within the stated range. A wall, closed door, furniture, a curtain, or a person moving through the path could interrupt that path; the exact effects and recovery behavior are not established in the available product information.
- Unlike a solar lock, the system does not depend on sunlight—but it is not independent of a powered transmitter.
Does the V7 Max really have no batteries?
Not necessarily. Lockin’s announcement presents AuraCharge as continuous power that eliminates the need to recharge or replace batteries during normal use. That supports the claim of reduced routine battery maintenance, not the stronger claim that the production lock contains no battery or other energy storage. PCWorld revised its coverage to avoid asserting that the lock has no battery. Lockin’s final manual or technical specification would be needed to settle whether there is backup storage and what happens if the transmitter loses power.

The available sources also do not establish the lock’s behavior during a home power outage or a blocked optical link, whether it warns users before power becomes insufficient, or whether there is emergency USB-C or other external power. Before relying on it as the only way into a home, ask Lockin for the final power-failure procedure and confirm the mechanical-key arrangement for the specific regional model.
What the V7 Max includes
The V7 Max is a premium mortise-style lock announced at CES 2026. Lockin says it received a CES 2026 Innovation Awards Best of Innovation honor. The company describes a 15 mm front panel, two exterior high-definition cameras, and dual 5-inch touchscreens. The cameras and displays are intended to provide video-doorbell and visitor-interaction functions as part of the lock. These are manufacturer specifications and positioning, not independent performance test results. Lockin’s V7 Max product page and its CES announcement provide the product details.
Unlock methods and biometrics
Lockin’s regional product page lists palm-vein and finger-vein recognition, structured-light 3D facial recognition, password, Bluetooth app, NFC card, one-time password, and mechanical key. It also lists a digital viewer. The full list is the manufacturer’s, and availability can vary by region or final model; verify which methods are included in the version sold where you live. Lockin presents vein recognition as safer and more accurate than conventional fingerprint or facial recognition, but the available material does not provide independent comparative testing such as false-acceptance or false-rejection rates. Buyers should also establish whether biometric templates are stored locally or in the cloud, whether enrollment is optional, and how to delete templates or revoke a lost phone or NFC card.

Cameras, AI, and Matter
LockinAI is advertised for delivery detection, theft-prevention alerts, visitor management, activity indexing, and searchable video. Lockin also advertises Matter integration with Apple, Google, Amazon, and Samsung smart-home ecosystems, without an additional hub. Matter support does not by itself establish that every camera, biometric, or AI function will be exposed in every platform.
The available sources do not specify which AI functions run locally versus in the cloud, whether a subscription is required, video-retention periods, account-sharing limits, or how features behave without internet access. Those details are material for a product combining cameras, facial recognition, and a connected lock; check the final privacy terms and platform compatibility before purchase.
The biggest practical issue: mortise installation
The V7 Max is not a retrofit module designed to fit over a standard deadbolt. A typical U.S. deadbolt uses a cylindrical bore; a mortise lock requires a larger, rectangular pocket in the door and matching hardware in the frame. PCWorld says professional installation is required or provided because of the precision involved, but current geography, availability, and service terms are not established. Have a locksmith or door professional inspect the door before ordering.

Likely fit
- New construction or a major renovation where the door and frame can be specified for mortise hardware.
- A home that already has compatible mortise hardware.
- A custom-door project where professional fitting and transmitter placement can be planned together.
Likely poor fit
- A standard deadbolt door when you want a quick, reversible retrofit.
- A rental where modifying the door is not permitted.
- A door that would need substantial carpentry or replacement to accept the lock.
Door dimensions published for Lockin’s Veno series are not V7 Max specifications, so they should not be used to determine V7 Max fit. Ask for the V7 Max installation template and regional requirements specifically.

Price and availability: what is established
Lockin announced the product on January 4, 2026, with plans for preorder after CES and early-2026 shipping. Those were launch projections. PCWorld later cited an early-March shipping expectation, while a March 2026 Inventors Digest report cited July–August 2026 shipping and an approximate $1,300 price. Neither estimate is proof of current delivery or an official current U.S. price. As of August 18, 2026, Lockin’s accessible U.S. storefront did not show a clearly verifiable live price or standard buy-now listing for the V7 Max, although the company’s product page continued to present it as a mortise lock.
Budget for installation as well as hardware if the approximate $1,300 secondary estimate is accurate. The final installed cost may be substantially higher if the door needs carpentry or replacement. Do not assume general storefront warranty, shipping, return, or installation terms automatically apply to the V7 Max; confirm the product-specific terms and service coverage for your location.
How to decide whether it suits your project
- Confirm the door first. Identify whether the door has compatible mortise hardware, then have a qualified installer review the door, frame, and required modifications.
- Map the optical path. Identify an indoor outlet and a stable transmitter location within the stated maximum range, with a clear path to the lock’s interior receiver.
- Get the failure plan in writing. Confirm backup-battery or energy-storage status, outage behavior, loss-of-line-of-sight response, low-power warnings, and mechanical-key or emergency-power procedures.
- Check ecosystem and privacy details. Verify which Matter functions work in your preferred platform and review cloud processing, subscriptions, recording retention, biometric storage, and account recovery.
- Compare total value with your needs. The V7 Max combines a lock, camera, displays, biometrics, and AI. If you only need remote locking, its premium feature set and installation may not be worthwhile.
For buyers who want Lockin’s charging concept without the V7 Max’s mortise-and-camera package, Lockin has also promoted the Veno Pro Wireless as a deadbolt-oriented option; Inventors Digest reported an approximate $350 price, not a verified current U.S. price. Lockin’s Veno Solar Palm and Veno Solar Face are solar-assisted deadbolt products, which avoid an optical transmitter but depend on light and placement. These alternatives are not substitutes for checking door compatibility, availability, and final pricing for the exact model.
