Klumpen is not a conventional house. It is a compact, factory-made utility core designed to sit beside a cabin, tiny home or other small dwelling. The manufacturer says it combines solar power, battery storage, heating, hot water, water treatment, sanitation, kitchen appliances and satellite broadband in a structure measuring roughly 2 by 2 metres.
That integration is the product’s appeal. It is also why the headline price, energy claims and “no permits” language need careful qualification before a buyer treats Klumpen as a complete off-grid solution.
What is Klumpen?
Klumpen is positioned as a factory-made infrastructure module rather than a move-in-ready residence. Its role is to package many of the difficult systems normally installed separately on a remote property: electricity generation and storage, heating, hot water, plumbing, wastewater treatment, kitchen equipment and internet connectivity.
The manufacturer describes it as an “off-grid utility core”. The official product information lists electricity, water, heat, internet, a shower, lavatory and kitchen facilities, but the unit contains very little conventional living or sleeping space. In practical terms, it appears intended to support a separate cabin, small home, workshop, guest unit or remote-lodging structure.

Klumpen is credited to the architectural duo Himmelsfahrtskommando, Ebba Hallin and Pelle Backman. The project credits also name Team Vex and The Great Exhibition. Its tall, teepee-like form gives it a distinctive visual identity, but the shape has practical consequences for transport, anchoring, wind exposure and maintenance access.
The manufacturer’s website provides the current product description and technical specifications.

Solar power and the 7.5 kWh battery
Klumpen’s energy system includes photovoltaic cladding, an inverter, MPPT regulators and three batteries rated at 2.5 kWh each. That gives a stated total of 7.5 kWh of battery capacity, with Bluetooth and mobile monitoring. The system can also enter a sleep mode after 30 days of inactivity, according to the technical information.

Battery capacity describes how much energy can be stored; it does not say how much solar electricity the cladding produces each day, how much of the battery is usable, or how much power the inverter can deliver continuously and during appliance startup.
The published material does not give a clear solar-array wattage, daily yield by climate, usable battery capacity, inverter continuous rating or surge rating. Those omissions matter because the listed equipment includes a heat pump, hot-water system, dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, toaster, cooking equipment and networking hardware.
Efficient loads may be manageable with 7.5 kWh of storage, but electric heating, hot-water production and multiple appliances can consume that capacity quickly. Winter cloud, snow, shading, latitude and occupant behaviour will determine whether the system remains operational without a generator or another backup source. “Solar-powered” should not be read as unlimited or permanently self-sufficient.

Heating, cooling and hot water
The specified thermal system uses an air-to-water split heat pump with fan-coil distribution. The manufacturer lists heating, cooling and domestic hot-water functions, with the hot-water tank reaching 60°C.
A heat pump normally uses less electricity than resistance heating, but its performance depends on outdoor temperature, system sizing, insulation and the building being heated. Klumpen’s published information does not establish the heat pump’s capacity, coefficient of performance, minimum operating temperature, seasonal energy consumption or whether it is intended to heat an adjoining building.
That last point is important. Including a heat pump does not prove that Klumpen can efficiently heat an arbitrary cabin or house. A buyer should request a heat-loss calculation, operating-temperature limits and a clear description of the spaces covered by the system.
Water recycling is not total water independence
Klumpen’s water system includes a dedicated clean-water tank, a hydrofor pressure system listed at 2 bar, and greywater treatment using membrane bioreactor technology. Treated greywater can be reused for toilet flushing and other secondary purposes. Blackwater is listed as being handled separately through a septic system.
This arrangement could reduce freshwater demand, especially by reusing shower water. It does not eliminate the need for a water source, tank filling, treatment maintenance or lawful wastewater disposal.

The available specifications do not state the clean-water or wastewater tank capacities, daily throughput, filter-replacement schedule, MBR servicing requirements, freezing protection or whether treated water is certified for drinking. They also do not establish how the septic arrangement satisfies the rules in a particular jurisdiction.

Water recycling, water independence and wastewater independence are separate claims:
- Water recycling means some used water is treated and reused.
- Water independence means the site has enough lawful incoming water for its occupants and uses.
- Wastewater independence means greywater and blackwater can be safely treated and discharged without a municipal sewer.
A prospective buyer should obtain tank capacities, expected water consumption, maintenance intervals and the complete treatment-system operating procedure before committing.
Appliances and amenities
The official technical information lists a sink, two stoves, microwave, shower, integrated lavatory, boiler, toaster, dishwasher and washing machine. These features make Klumpen more than a battery enclosure, but they do not turn its 7 m² footprint into a conventional home.

The published price information does not establish that transport, site preparation, foundations, local installation, commissioning, septic work, filters, consumables or utility connections are included. Nor does an appliance list prove that every appliance can operate simultaneously from the stated battery and inverter system.
Satellite internet is still an external service
Klumpen’s communications specification lists satellite broadband and an integrated cellphone antenna. That may make remote work and monitoring possible where conventional broadband is unavailable, but satellite internet remains dependent on an outside network and an ongoing service subscription.
The product information does not identify the satellite provider, subscription cost, expected speeds, latency, data policy or whether the required dish and modem are included. Satellite equipment also needs suitable electricity and a sufficiently unobstructed view of the sky.

For a U.S. installation, Starlink’s residential service page is one possible point of comparison, but buyers should verify service availability, equipment, plan pricing and address-specific conditions independently. Klumpen should not be assumed to include Starlink or any particular satellite provider.

The current manufacturer-stated figures are:
- $35,000 target retail price.
- $198,000 for an aluminium edition marketed for extreme conditions.
- €2,000 reservation fee when reservations open.
- $3,000 estimated EU shipping.
- September 2026 estimated first-batch delivery.
These are targets and estimates, not evidence of a confirmed installed price or established mass-market availability. The site describes a limited series and directs prospective buyers to a notification and reservation process. As of September 2026, the announced first-batch date should still be treated as an estimate unless the manufacturer confirms completed production, shipping and local regulatory readiness.
The $35,000 figure is also not directly comparable with the price of a bare cabin or tiny-house shell. A realistic project budget may need to include:
- Land, access roads and a site survey.
- Foundations, anchoring or other structural preparation.
- Transport, unloading, crane hire and placement.
- Local permits, inspections and professional design work.
- Septic installation or an approved wastewater connection.
- Water supply, storage and initial filling.
- Additional solar generation or a backup generator.
- Satellite hardware and an ongoing internet subscription.
- Filters, biological-treatment servicing and replacement components.
- Insurance, taxes, customs and possible U.S. electrical conversion or certification work.
No complete installed-cost estimate is provided in the available product material.

Off-grid can refer to several different systems, and Klumpen does not automatically make a site independent in every category.
- Electricity: Solar generation and batteries can reduce or eliminate a grid connection, but autonomy depends on production, loads, climate and backup power.
- Water: Recycling reduces demand but does not necessarily provide an adequate source of fresh water.
- Sewer: Greywater treatment and separate blackwater handling may avoid a municipal sewer, subject to local approval and maintenance.
- Heating: The heat pump requires electricity and may need backup in cold or low-sun conditions.
- Internet: Satellite broadband avoids a terrestrial connection but still depends on a provider, subscription and sky view.
- Maintenance: Pumps, filters, batteries, heat-pump equipment and treatment systems still need inspection, servicing and replacement parts.
The strongest description is therefore “an integrated utility package for a remote site”, not “a completely independent homestead”.

Permits and U.S. suitability
The product website uses broad marketing language about placing the unit “anywhere on Earth” and requiring “no permits”. That should not be treated as a universal legal conclusion.
Local authorities may regulate the installation as an accessory structure, utility enclosure, tiny home, dwelling or commercial lodging unit. Separate rules may apply to foundations, anchoring, plumbing, electrical work, septic systems, solar equipment, satellite antennas, fire safety, emergency egress, floodplains, protected land and permanent occupancy.
For a U.S. project, a buyer should obtain written confirmation of electrical, plumbing, building and wastewater compliance for the specific state and jurisdiction. The available information does not establish U.S. certification, code approval, local inspection acceptance or a domestic service network.
Questions to ask before reserving
- What is the photovoltaic array’s rated output and expected daily yield in the intended climate?
- What is the battery’s usable capacity, rather than only its nominal capacity?
- What are the inverter’s continuous and surge ratings?
- Which appliances may operate at the same time?
- What are the heat pump’s capacity, cold-weather limits and seasonal energy requirements?
- Does the system heat or cool an adjoining building, and under what assumptions?
- What are the clean-water, greywater and blackwater tank capacities?
- How often must the MBR system, filters and pumps be cleaned or replaced?
- What happens if the treatment system loses power or freezes?
- Which satellite provider, hardware and subscription are included, if any?
- What transport, crane, foundation and anchoring arrangements are required?
- Is the quoted price delivered, installed and commissioned?
- What warranty, spare-parts and service support is available in the buyer’s country?
- What are the reservation cancellation and refund terms?
- Which independent structural, electrical, thermal and sanitation tests have been completed?
Who is Klumpen for?
Klumpen may appeal to an owner who already has—or plans to build—a habitable cabin but wants a packaged approach to utilities. It could also interest remote-lodging operators, experimental architects, hospitality projects and buyers for whom installing separate solar, plumbing, heating, sanitation and communications systems would be especially difficult.
It is a weaker fit for anyone seeking a complete primary residence, conventional bedrooms and storage, a predictable installed price, immediate delivery or readily available local service. It may also be unsuitable for high-demand households, poor-solar sites, severe winter climates or locations without a lawful wastewater solution.
Modular power stations from companies such as BLUETTI and EcoFlow can offer a cheaper and more incremental way to add battery storage and backup power. They are not like-for-like alternatives, however: they do not automatically provide a building, shower, sanitation, heat pump, water treatment or integrated utility architecture.
Verdict
Klumpen is an unusually ambitious attempt to compress an off-grid site’s core infrastructure into a small, distinctive factory-built module. Its strongest selling point is integration: power, water, heating, sanitation, appliances and connectivity are designed as one package.

The published information does not yet establish solar output, usable battery autonomy, winter performance, heat-pump capacity, water-system maintenance, structural ratings, U.S. code compliance or a full installed cost. For the right remote-property owner, it could simplify a difficult project. For everyone else, the sensible next step is detailed technical, legal and financial due diligence before paying a reservation fee.
