Short answer: The Insignia F20 is a sensible low-cost choice for a kitchen, guest room, or office if you want a compact TV with streaming built in. The 24-inch and 32-inch models are both 720p, however, so this is a basic convenience pick—not the right choice if sharp text, close-up viewing, strong sound, or a specialized under-cabinet installation matters most.
The original recommendation appeared on June 19, 2024, alongside promotional prices of $69.99 for the 24-inch model and $89.99 for the 32-inch model. Those were sale prices, not dependable current prices. The original article is useful background, but check today’s listing and compare 1080p alternatives before buying.
What the Insignia F20 is—and what it is not
The current Best Buy listings identify the 24-inch set as the Insignia NS-24F201NA26 and the 32-inch set as NS-32F201NA26. Both are F20 Series LED smart TVs with 720p HD resolution, built-in Fire TV and Alexa voice functionality. The 24-inch listing specifies two HDMI ports, including an ARC port. Check the exact listing for the model you plan to order; product numbers and retailer details can change.

Best Buy’s listings describe the 24-inch F20 and 32-inch F20 as 720p models. That resolution can be adequate for casual viewing, news, recipes at a sensible distance, and background entertainment. It is not Full HD (1080p), and it is a compromise for fine text, subtitles, detailed movies, gaming, or sitting close to the screen. Treat the picture as value-oriented rather than home-theater quality; the available product information does not establish independent measurements of brightness, contrast, color, or viewing angles.

Measure the space before choosing. Diagonal screen size does not tell you the TV’s full width, height, depth, or stand footprint. Include clearance for the stand, cables, ventilation and any nearby appliances. A 24-inch model makes more sense for a close countertop view; a 32-inch set is easier to see from across a small kitchen or bedroom. At close range, the larger 720p screen can make the resolution limitation more apparent.

Kitchen placement and mounting: plan for the room
A countertop installation can work if the TV sits on a stable, level surface and has room for ventilation. Keep it away from the sink, splashes, steam, grease and direct heat from a cooktop, oven or other appliance. Route the power cord away from hot surfaces and walkways, and place the set where it cannot be easily knocked over. Attach the stand correctly; consider an appropriate anti-tip measure if children or pets could pull on it. A regular television is not built for wet or greasy conditions.

If you plan to wall-mount it, verify the exact model’s VESA pattern, weight and mounting instructions, then use a compatible mount secured to a suitable structural surface. Do not assume a mount fits just because it is advertised for small TVs, or rely on drywall anchors unless the mounting system and installation method explicitly permit them. Check that cables can reach the inputs without being sharply bent or pinched. A tilt mount may help with a high position, but it does not solve glare and can affect the view from other spots.

Ceiling mounting deserves particular caution: a lightweight TV is not automatically safe overhead. Use a mount rated for the exact set, confirm the structure and fasteners are appropriate, and consider professional installation. If you cannot verify those details, choose a safer counter or wall location instead.
Picture, sound and Fire TV trade-offs
The F20’s appeal is its low price and built-in streaming, not premium image performance. A 720p screen is usually an acceptable compromise for casual or background viewing, but shoppers who read recipe text from several feet away, watch detailed content closely, or want a crisper image should compare 1080p models. Best Buy’s related listings have included Insignia’s 24-inch F40 and 32-inch FE as 1080p alternatives. If one costs only modestly more than the F20, the resolution upgrade may be worthwhile; check current price, availability and specifications rather than assuming those related listings are still on sale.

Do not assume the small cabinet will fill a noisy kitchen with sound. The available evidence does not establish measured audio performance for these F20 models, but compact TVs generally leave less room for substantial speakers. If dialogue is hard to hear, an external speaker or soundbar may help, provided the connection is supported. Check the TV’s audio outputs and Bluetooth behavior before buying an accessory, and account for the added cost, counter space and potential obstruction of the screen.

Fire TV and Alexa are a plus if you already use Amazon’s ecosystem. The interface may also include recommendations and promotions, and someone who prefers Roku or Google TV may find another platform more comfortable. Internet performance depends on the Wi-Fi connection where the TV is installed. Retailer customer reviews can provide clues about owners’ experiences, but they are not controlled product tests; for example, Best Buy’s review summaries include both positive comments and complaints about issues such as brightness, connectivity, remote operation or durability.

When a different option makes more sense
- Choose a 1080p small TV if sharper text and detail matter, especially for close viewing. Compare the Insignia F40 or FE listings, but verify the exact model and live price.
- Consider Roku’s 24-inch Select Series if you prefer Roku’s interface to Fire TV. Available information does not establish a dependable current price or full specification comparison, so check the Roku site and the retailer listing before treating it as a direct value winner.
- Consider a purpose-built kitchen TV if you specifically need under-cabinet mounting, a fold-down screen, rotation or 12-volt operation. SYLVOX markets kitchen-oriented models; verify the specific model’s installation requirements, support, warranty and environmental ratings on the SYLVOX site. A specialty design can solve a mounting problem, but does not automatically guarantee better durability or software support.
- Use a streaming device with a TV you already own if that display is still suitable. It may be cheaper than replacing it, though it adds a device, power connection, HDMI connection and potentially another remote.
- Choose a smart display such as Echo Show 15 if recipes, timers, calendars, music and household controls are more important than a conventional TV experience. It is not an equivalent substitute if you need an antenna tuner, several TV inputs or a traditional television screen. Price and buying checklist
Past Best Buy search results showed prices fluctuating around $69.99 to $79.99 for both F20 sizes, while the 2024 article cited $69.99 and $89.99 promotional prices. These are historical observations, not a live quote; price, inventory and model listings change. Check the retailer’s current listing and compare the total cost of any mount or audio equipment you need. The F20 is most compelling when it is materially cheaper than a 1080p alternative and basic streaming is all you need.
- Measure the complete installation area, including stand footprint and cable clearance.
- Choose 24 inches for tight spaces and closer viewing, or 32 inches when you need visibility farther away.
- Decide whether 720p is adequate. If text clarity matters, price a 1080p option before settling on the F20.
- Confirm the Fire TV/Alexa platform suits you, and check the apps and live-TV connection you need.
- For a mount, verify VESA compatibility, weight rating, structure, cable access and safe installation for the exact model.
- For a kitchen, keep the TV clear of heat, water, steam, grease and accidental impact; plan for noise and glare.
- Check the current price and availability. Do not rely on an old sale price when deciding whether it is a good deal.
Who should buy the F20?
Buy the Insignia F20 if you want an inexpensive second TV, already like Fire TV or Alexa, and will use it for casual viewing in a compact room. Skip it if you need 1080p or better, expect strong built-in audio, sit close while reading small text, dislike Fire TV, or require a waterproof, fold-down or otherwise purpose-built kitchen installation. In those cases, a 1080p set, a dedicated kitchen model or a smart display may fit the job better.
