Verdict: The iRobot Braava jet m6 is a genuinely useful dedicated robot mop for homes with mostly sealed hard floors, open room connections and manageable thresholds. It maps rooms, sprays and mops on a schedule, and can coordinate with some Roomba vacuums. It does not, however, eliminate ownership chores: you still fill the tank, fit and wash pads, clear the floor, protect rugs, correct maps and occasionally rescue the robot.
That makes the m6 an automation tool for the right floor plan rather than a universal replacement for manual mopping. Its navigation around rugs, carpet routes, trim and raised transitions is the deciding factor.

What the Braava jet m6 actually is
The m6 is a Wi-Fi-connected robot mop, not a vacuum and not a self-washing mop station. It uses a removable tank, wet or dry cleaning pads, room mapping and Precision Jet Spray. iRobot lists tile, hardwood and stone among its target surfaces, but your flooring manufacturer’s guidance still controls whether damp cleaning is appropriate. iRobot’s product page should be checked for current regional instructions.

It is designed to maintain floors after loose dirt, grit, crumbs and pet hair have been removed. The pad and spray can handle everyday footprints and sticky residue, but the robot cannot apply the hand pressure, inspection or repeated rinsing that a person uses on dried-on stains. It also cannot move furniture or lift obstacles.
How much work does it really remove?
The m6 automates repetitive movement, not every part of mopping. Separating those two workloads gives a realistic ownership picture.
Work the robot can automate
- Creating and saving a map of a level, then cleaning selected rooms.
- Travelling in organized rows and returning to its dock when conditions allow.
- Scheduled maintenance runs and targeted cleaning commands.
- Applying Precision Jet Spray ahead of the pad to loosen sticky dirt.
- Recharging during a larger job; the review also described a Smart Charge update intended to charge only as long as needed to finish.
- Vacuum-first, mop-second sequencing with compatible Roomba models through Imprint Link.
Work that remains yours
- Fill the tank and install the correct wet or dry pad.
- Use only a cleaning solution approved for the m6 and your region, if the current instructions permit one.
- Remove, rinse, dry or replace the pad after a run.
- Pick up cords, toys, bowls, clothing and other obstructions.
- Roll up rugs or create Keep-Out Zones around them.
- Deal with thresholds, carpeted routes, closed doors and rooms the robot cannot safely reach.
- Check that it returned to the dock, and repair maps or exclusions when navigation goes wrong.
“None of the work” is therefore headline shorthand. The m6 removes the repeated pushing and pulling of a mop, while leaving preparation, consumables and troubleshooting with the owner.
Mopping performance: what to expect
Precision Jet Spray
The spray is targeted in front of the robot rather than broadcast across the room. Its purpose is to loosen dirt while reducing the chance of wetting nearby furniture, walls or rugs. It is not pressure washing, steam cleaning or a disinfecting treatment. Do not infer sanitation or pathogen removal from marketing language or an older review.
Wet and dry pads
A wet pad performs the mopping pass. A dry pad is intended for sweeping or dusting. Reusable pads lower ongoing waste and cost but must be washed and thoroughly dried; disposable pads are convenient but create recurring expense.
Cleaning modes
The 2020 review described Extended Coverage, Standard and Deep Clean modes. It characterized Extended Coverage as suitable for larger areas, while Standard and Deep Clean gave more attention to detected dirty spots and, in the more intensive setting, more passes. These descriptions belong to the software generation tested then, so current app behavior should be verified rather than assumed.

Where it helps—and where it does not
Routine dust, footprints, light pet tracks and fresh kitchen residue are the m6’s natural workload, especially when a vacuum has already removed abrasive grit. Dried spills, edges requiring hand pressure and stains that need visual inspection still call for manual cleaning.

The m6 builds an Imprint Smart Map, lets you label rooms and send it to selected areas, and supports Keep-Out Zones. A map is not proof that every mapped room is reachable. The robot still has to identify the floor boundary, cross the transition and return by a viable route.
Mapping may take several runs. Early maps can be incomplete or visually confusing, and a room can appear on the map even when a rug edge, threshold or carpet corridor prevents practical access. The original review reported that unusual quarter-round-style trim, missing transitions and mixed flooring confused the robot; repeated navigation problems eventually caused part of a hallway to be excluded.
Rugs, carpet and thresholds: the make-or-break test
Rugs
A wet mop should not cross an area rug. Low-profile rugs and nearly flush edges can still be difficult for the m6 to interpret. Remove them during a run or mark them with Keep-Out Zones; do not assume that a nearly flat edge is safe.
Carpeted routes
If the only path to a tiled bathroom or kitchen passes through carpet, the m6 may not reach it. The earlier review describes manually carrying the robot into such a room, closing the door and running a separate cycle. That is workable occasionally, but it undermines whole-home automation.

Raised transitions
A metal, steep or irregular strip can stop the robot entering a room—or trap it inside. The review documented a case where the m6 descended into a bathroom but could not climb back over the transition to reach its dock.
Before buying, measure the tallest threshold and test both directions: can the robot enter every destination, and can it return? A return-protected purchase is especially important if you cannot test the exact floor plan first.
Dock placement and coverage
The dock needs a clear approach and departure path. Furniture legs, narrow corridors, a crowded dining room or a dock hidden behind furniture can make whole-level operation unreliable. Place it near the areas the robot must clean, with enough open space for alignment.
The original review required several dock relocations and found that the m6 needed more docking room than an average robot vacuum. Plan the dock as part of the floor-cleaning layout, not as an afterthought.

iRobot and the review described up to approximately 2,000 square feet on one tank in Extended Coverage. That is a manufacturer/review-era claim, not an independent measurement; actual coverage varies with mode, spray level, pad condition, obstacles and room geometry. Battery behavior likewise depends on the job, and no single runtime applies to every home.

Setup and first-week checklist
- Place the dock on a level surface with an unobstructed approach and a clear route back.
- Charge the robot, install the iRobot Home app and connect it to Wi-Fi.
- Fit the appropriate wet or dry pad and fill the tank according to current regional instructions.
- Run mapping or exploratory cleaning while the floor is clear.
- Label rooms after the map stabilizes.
- Mark rugs and unsafe areas with Keep-Out Zones or remove the rugs.
- Test the hardest threshold and the longest return route before scheduling whole-home runs.
- For a combined workflow, vacuum first and mop second.
App labels and menu locations may have changed since the 2020 review, so use the current app and support instructions rather than treating older screenshots as exact directions.
Maintenance and running costs
- Tank: refill before runs and inspect it if the robot stops early.
- Pad: remove and rinse reusable pads promptly, then dry them fully; replace disposable pads as needed.
- Floor preparation: clear cords, toys, pet bowls and loose debris every time automation depends on an unobstructed route.
- Cleaning liquid: use only a solution explicitly approved for the m6 and region. Do not add dish soap, bleach, disinfectant, Pine-Sol, Fabuloso or another household cleaner without a current compatibility statement; foaming, residue, damage or warranty issues are possible.
- Consumables: reusable pads reduce recurring purchases but add laundry; disposable pads trade labor for ongoing cost.
- Support: a used unit may have a tired battery, worn wheels, missing tank or dock parts and little practical warranty coverage.
The m6 does not wash or dry its own pad, refill its own tank or empty debris. Those omissions are central to the difference between a dedicated robot mop and newer self-maintaining platforms.

Room-directed cleaning, schedules, map controls and voice-assistant commands are the m6’s strongest convenience features. Imprint Link can sequence a compatible Roomba vacuum before the Braava mop, reducing the chance that grit is dragged across a damp floor.
The older review described support for Roomba 900-series, i7 and s9 models after software updates, with each robot initially needing its own map. Treat that as model- and software-dependent, not a promise that every Roomba works. Check current compatibility documentation before buying a pair.
Reliability: useful warning signs, not a failure rate
Consumer reviews report navigation and map failures, trouble leaving or returning to the dock, wheel problems, tank-level detection issues and frustrating replacement or out-of-warranty support experiences. These are self-selected anecdotes, not controlled defect statistics, but they identify the failure modes worth considering. ConsumerAffairs owner reports provide examples.

When evaluating a used m6, confirm that the dock, power cable, tank and pad plate are included; inspect wheel movement and battery behavior; and insist on a meaningful return window.
Is the m6 still sensible in 2026?
Buying from iRobot
On August 18, 2026, iRobot’s U.S. Braava page displayed $449.99–$499.99 and marked the m6 “Out of Stock.” That describes iRobot.com at that date, not every retailer or used-market listing. The page also advertised a 60-day home trial, free shipping and returns subject to its terms, a first-purchase email offer and Affirm financing with example APRs of 0%–36%; eligibility and restrictions apply. Check the live page before purchasing.
Buying elsewhere
- Confirm whether the unit is new, refurbished or used.
- Verify the dock, cord, tank, pad hardware and accessories.
- Check the return period and warranty in writing.
- Confirm that pads and approved solution are available in your region.
- Buy only where you can return the robot if it cannot cross your thresholds.
Choosing a newer combination robot
iRobot’s current catalog lists the Roomba Combo 10 Max and Combo j9+ at $1,399.99 each when checked. They combine vacuuming and mopping and are relevant if one machine matters more than a dedicated mop. Who should buy the Braava jet m6?
Choose it when
- Most accessible floors are sealed hard surfaces.
- Hard-floor rooms connect without carpet, loose rugs or tall transitions.
- Rugs can be removed or reliably excluded.
- You already own a capable vacuum or compatible Roomba.
- You want scheduled maintenance cleaning, not hand-level stain removal.
- You accept tank filling, pad care and occasional map troubleshooting.
- The seller offers a strong return policy.
Skip it when
- The route to key rooms crosses carpet.
- Thresholds are tall, steep, metal or irregular.
- The home has many loose or curled rugs.
- You expect a completely hands-off appliance.
- You need vacuuming and mopping from one machine.
- You will not reposition the robot or correct a map.
- The only available unit is expensive, used, incomplete or unsupported.
Questions to answer before buying
- What proportion of the intended cleaning area is hard floor?
- Can the robot reach every hard-floor room without crossing carpet?
- Can rugs be removed or excluded?
- What is the tallest threshold, and can the robot cross it in both directions?
- Is there open docking space near the main cleaning area?
- Do you have a separate vacuum?
- Are you willing to wash reusable pads or pay for disposables?
- Is an approved solution available locally?
- Does the seller provide a meaningful return period?
- Would a current combination robot better match your workflow?
Final verdict
The Braava jet m6 delivers real scheduled, room-based mopping and remains compelling for a mostly hard-floor home with simple transitions. It is not maintenance-free, and its navigation can turn a promising “whole-home” plan into manual room drops, blocked rugs and map corrections. Buy it only when your floor plan passes the threshold-and-return test and the price comes with return protection. If you want one appliance to vacuum and mop, compare the workflow and support of a newer combination robot instead.
