The technology behind the “disappearing” stove is invisible induction: induction coils installed beneath a compatible countertop, so pans appear to sit on an uninterrupted work surface. It is a real, commercially available option in 2026, but there is no evidence that it has taken over kitchens worldwide or that traditional induction cooktops are disappearing. Invisible induction is better understood as a premium way to integrate conventional induction into a kitchen design.

What invisible induction actually is

A conventional induction cooktop has a glass-ceramic top, marked cooking zones and controls. An invisible system places its induction modules beneath a compatible countertop instead. The worktop is the surface on which the pan rests; the pan, not the slab, is heated by induction.

The underlying principle is the same: a coil creates an electromagnetic field that induces current in a suitable cookware base. That is why “an induction cooktop integrated beneath the worktop” is more accurate than “induction without a cooktop.” Depending on the product, controls may be external, wireless or integrated into the surface.

It is not a new heating technology first invented in 2026. TPB says it launched its invisible-induction technology in 2013; the more current story is its growing presence in premium kitchen design and surface-material partnerships. TPB’s product announcement and domestic product information describe its system.

Is traditional induction going away?

No. The available evidence shows product launches, design-show demonstrations and manufacturer offerings for concealed systems, not global household adoption or market dominance. No worldwide sales, installed-base or market-share figures establish that invisible induction has taken over ordinary kitchens.

Conventional induction remains an active appliance category. The U.S. Department of Energy describes induction cooktops as increasingly popular, and ENERGY STAR lists residential induction cooking tops as an available efficiency technology. Those sources concern induction generally, not adoption of hidden systems. The Department of Energy’s overview and ENERGY STAR’s induction resource provide that context.

Likewise, Cosentino’s announcement that Invisacook would be demonstrated on Dekton surfaces at KBIS 2026 establishes design-industry promotion, not a worldwide takeover. Cosentino’s KBIS announcement is an example of the technology’s visibility in the premium design market.

How it works—and why the countertop matters

The coils must transfer energy through the worktop to compatible cookware. The surface therefore cannot be chosen on appearance alone: thickness, material, heat tolerance and installation clearances must meet the specific appliance maker’s requirements. A system’s approved countertop is part of the appliance specification, not an optional styling choice.

For example, Novy Undercover is installed beneath a 20-millimetre Dekton worktop. Novy says the cookware sits directly on that surface and describes the system’s operation as comparable to a traditional induction hob. Its three-zone product page and Undercover explanation set out those details.

  • Induction stoves rely on cookware to heat, so it’s essential to choose magnetic bottom cookware with a minimum diameter of 5 inches. Auto-pan detection will shut off automatically after 60 seconds if no cookware, or the incorrect cookware is detected
  • Although induction itself is a noiseless process, there may be high pitched sounds from the cookware due to multiple layers of metals sandwiched together. Please allow the induction cooker to cool down before cleaning

Do not assume that ordinary granite, marble, quartz, laminate or another stone is compatible just because a manufacturer calls the product “invisible.” Ask for the exact approved brand, material, finish and thickness, along with any required clearance and fabrication instructions. Surface warranties may also depend on using the specified appliance and approved installer.

Products on the market: what their published details show

Published specifications are not directly comparable in every respect: some manufacturers describe a complete appliance-and-surface system, while others leave configuration to a project quote. Confirm current model details, local availability and installation terms with the manufacturer or an authorized dealer.

For Novy, the listed system output is not a promise that every zone will sustain its individual maximum at the same time. Its product information lists zones up to 2,700 W, or 3,700 W with booster, and a 7,400 W maximum system output. Power sharing and zone behavior matter when several pans are in use. The cited three-zone model lists a 220–240/380–415 V electrical specification; that regional specification should not be treated as a drop-in U.S. installation. Check the model specifications and local electrical approval before designing around it.

What cooking on a hidden system involves

Cookware and pan placement

Use cookware with a magnetic base. Cast iron, carbon steel, magnetic stainless steel and some enameled steel pans are commonly suitable; nonmagnetic aluminum, copper, glass and ceramic are generally not, unless the cookware includes an induction-compatible base. A magnet sticking to the base is a useful first check, but it does not confirm that the pan’s diameter or construction suits a particular system.

Novy recommends magnetic cookware and gives a roughly 12–28 cm diameter range for optimal performance. It also cautions against thin enameled pans such as pancake pans because they may overheat. Follow the manual for the exact model, including minimum pan size and placement guidance. Novy’s FAQ covers its cookware advice.

A seamless slab does not mean every inch is an active cooking zone. A pan that is too small may not be recognized; an oversized pan can extend beyond the energized area and heat unevenly. Check whether a model has fixed zones, bridge zones or a genuine flex-zone arrangement before assuming that pans can be moved freely across the counter.

Controls and feedback

Without printed rings, it may be less obvious where to put a pan, which zone a control operates or whether an area remains hot. Look for clear zone indicators, pan-recognition feedback, residual-heat warnings, timers and child locks. Novy lists a wireless controller and features including automatic pan recognition, pause, timer, child lock and residual-heat indication on its product information. Its FAQ also describes worktop indication and controller display information.

A wireless controller is a convenience only if it stays available and easy to operate. During a showroom demonstration, check how the system maps controls to pans and how visibly it signals an active or recently used zone.

Performance claims

Concealment alone does not make a system faster or more powerful than a visible induction hob. Results depend on coil design, cookware, pan placement, countertop thickness, electrical supply and how the unit shares power among active zones. The Department of Energy cites Consumer Reports testing in which conventional induction boiled water 20–40% faster than the gas and conventional electric cooktops tested; that result is not a test of invisible systems and should not be transferred to them. The cited DOE article gives the context for that comparison.

Safety, heat and ventilation

Induction avoids an open flame and an exposed radiant element, but invisible induction is not burn-proof. The pan gets hot, heat can transfer from cookware to the worktop, and surfaces may retain residual heat. Novy lists residual-heat indications for its system; use the model’s warnings and operating instructions rather than assuming the countertop is cool when cooking ends.

  • Ask how the system responds to objects placed over an active zone and what its child-lock and pan-detection features do.

Induction does not burn gas, but cooking still generates steam, grease, smoke and particles, especially when frying or searing. Plan suitable ventilation for the cooking method and room; the absence of visible burner rings does not remove the need for an effective hood or other appropriate ventilation.

Installation is a kitchen project, not a plug-in upgrade

Concealed induction needs coordination between the appliance, countertop, cabinets, electrical supply and controls. Novy says Undercover installation requires a professional kitchen installer, a certified electrician and an approved stonemason to prefabricate the worktop; its FAQ also specifies a 120 cm cabinet for its installation. These are Novy-specific requirements, not universal dimensions for every product. Novy’s installation FAQ sets out its requirements.

Before committing, have the installer confirm:

  • Approved worktop make, material, finish, thickness and fabrication method.
  • Cabinet dimensions, module clearances and access for future service.
  • Voltage, phase, amperage, maximum connected load and local electrical-code compliance.
  • Whether the home needs a dedicated circuit, capacity upgrade or load-management arrangement.
  • Controller location, visual indicators and coordination with cabinetry and ventilation.
  • Who is responsible for appliance installation, electrical connection and countertop fabrication.

Regional compatibility is especially important for imported products. A European product page listing 220–240/380–415 V and 7,400 W does not establish that the unit is approved for a U.S. home or supported locally. Confirm the exact model’s electrical requirements and certification with the manufacturer and a qualified local electrician before ordering.

Cost, service and the risks hidden by a clean surface

The appliance is only one part of the budget. Add the compatible countertop, fabrication, cabinet work, electrical labor, installation, ventilation changes, controller or accessories, delivery and any cookware replacement. Novy’s 2026 UK catalog prices are useful as a product-price reference, but they are not installed totals; the figure may not apply outside that market.

Service access deserves attention before purchase. Because the induction modules sit below a fitted worktop, replacement may require access from the cabinet side and coordination among an appliance technician, electrician and countertop fabricator. Whether a particular unit can be repaired without disturbing the slab is model- and installation-specific, so get the answer in writing rather than assuming removal will be simple.

Ask the vendor and installer these questions:

  • Can the induction module be removed or replaced from below while the countertop stays in place?
  • Who is the authorized service provider in this country, and are replacement parts stocked locally?
  • Does the appliance warranty cover labor only, or also countertop removal and refabrication?
  • How are appliance defects, surface cracks and fabrication defects handled when warranties differ?
  • What happens if a surface is cracked, and must the appliance be disconnected or inspected?

Invisacook’s official warranty page lists three years of coverage with registration and a two-year extension for $250. Coverage terms are not a substitute for confirming repair access, local service and what the warranty excludes.

Who should consider invisible induction?

A good fit

  • Owners building a kitchen or replacing a countertop as part of a substantial renovation.
  • Projects where an uninterrupted island or minimalist surface is a leading design priority.
  • Buyers able to use approved materials, fund professional fabrication and coordinate electrical work.
  • Households with compatible cookware and a local installation and service path.

A poor fit

  • Renters or anyone seeking a quick, low-cost retrofit.
  • Homes where the countertop is not being replaced and the existing surface is not approved.
  • Buyers who need a simple plug-in or ordinary replacement appliance.
  • Households that depend on nonmagnetic cookware or want the easiest possible repair and replacement path.
  • Projects where electrical capacity, local product approval or service availability cannot be confirmed.

Alternatives that may make more sense

  • Visible induction cooktop: The practical choice for most replacements, with clear zones, broader availability and simpler appliance access while using the same basic heating principle.
  • Flush-mounted conventional induction: A familiar cooktop installed nearly level with the counter, reducing visual interruption without hiding the appliance beneath the slab.
  • Portable induction burner: A lower-commitment option for renters, temporary kitchens or trying induction before a renovation.
  • Radiant electric or hybrid cooktop: Worth considering when cookware compatibility or mixed cooking preferences matter more than induction’s response and efficiency benefits.

Invisible induction’s strongest advantage is architectural integration, not a proven leap in cooking performance. In 2026 it is a real, premium option for carefully planned projects, but conventional induction remains the more straightforward choice for most kitchens.
