Yes: IKEA’s smart white-glass VARMBLIXT donut lamp is listed in the US for $99.99. The 12-inch lamp (article number 806.135.24) includes a remote and supports Matter over Thread, but local store and delivery availability varies. Its remote works without a smart-home hub; app and Matter control require a compatible controller and Thread Border Router.
What the new VARMBLIXT is—and what it isn’t
The product is the VARMBLIXT LED table/wall lamp, dimmable smart, white glass, designed by Sabine Marcelis. Its frosted white-glass finish distinguishes it from the familiar orange-glass VARMBLIXT. This is a separate smart model, not a software update to the original orange lamp.
It can sit on a table or be mounted on a wall. The smart model provides color and white-spectrum light, with basic control from the included remote. IKEA lists it at $99.99, with the hub sold separately. The listing shows the product as new, but it does not guarantee stock at every US store or delivery address; check availability for your location before making a trip.
The original orange-glass VARMBLIXT remains a different product. Choose that version if the orange finish matters more than app or smart-home control.

Matter over Thread: what you need
Matter makes the lamp compatible with supported smart-home platforms, but “Matter-compatible” does not mean it connects directly to Wi-Fi or that every feature works identically everywhere. This lamp uses Matter over Thread. For phone, app, or networked smart-home control, you need a Matter controller and a Thread Border Router. Some devices combine both roles. IKEA lists Amazon, Apple, Google, Homey, and Samsung among supported ecosystems; specific functions can vary by platform.
For IKEA’s own app control, use the IKEA Home smart app with a compatible IKEA hub such as DIRIGERA. DIRIGERA is optional if you already have suitable Matter and Thread equipment. The lamp and remote can also be used without a hub, but that gives you direct controls rather than app-based or networked access.

What works without a hub?
The included remote is intended to work directly with the lamp. IKEA’s manual describes a single press for on/off, a double press to change color, and a press-and-hold to dim. The remote needs two AAA/HR03 batteries. For direct pairing, the manual says to press the remote’s system button four times quickly and hold it within 5 cm of the lamp.

Setting up app or Matter control
- Confirm that your smart-home setup includes a Matter controller and Thread Border Router. For IKEA Home smart, use a compatible IKEA hub such as DIRIGERA.
- Install or update the relevant app, power on the lamp, and begin setup while the lamp is in pairing mode.
- Scan the Matter QR code on the product or included paperwork, then follow the app’s prompts.
- Pair the remote separately if you want direct control alongside your setup process; the lamp cannot maintain both direct remote pairing and a system connection at once, according to its manual.
The lamp automatically enters pairing mode for 15 minutes after it is powered on. If that window expires, power-cycle the lamp or use its button to reopen pairing mode, then try setup again. IKEA’s product manual and Matter setup FAQ provide the detailed instructions.
If pairing fails
- Check that the app and hub firmware are up to date.
- Keep the phone, hub, and lamp close together during setup, and confirm the Thread Border Router is working.
- Restart the lamp to reopen its pairing window, then scan the code and retry.
- If needed, the product manual says to factory-reset the lamp by holding its on/off button for 10 seconds. A reset removes existing connections and stored settings, so use it only after simpler steps fail.
IKEA’s general guidance may describe a six-toggle reset for some smart lights; follow this model’s manual rather than applying a general procedure automatically.

At the 180 lumens stated on the current US product listing, this is best treated as an accent or mood light—not as a room’s primary light or a task lamp. Its donut shape and color options are the point; do not buy it expecting the output of a ceiling fixture.

The US listing is the more product-specific reference for this article number, so 180 lumens is the figure to use for this US model. Confirm directly with IKEA if brightness is a deciding factor.
Should you buy it?
- It makes sense if you want a recognizable design object that doubles as smart accent lighting, or already have a compatible Matter controller and Thread Border Router.
- Think twice if you need bright general lighting, want the original orange glass, or expect app control without a hub or Thread infrastructure.
- Budget for the whole setup: the lamp is $99.99, but IKEA Home smart or Matter control may require equipment you do not already own. The remote is included; the hub is not.
Customer reviews on IKEA’s listing include reports of pairing difficulty, confusion about the remote, and dissatisfaction with brightness or color. Those are individual experiences, not controlled tests, but they are a reason to check the setup requirements before buying rather than assume Matter makes configuration effortless.
Check the VARMBLIXT listing and local availability at IKEA. Availability and price can change, and store inventory is location-specific.
