The Huawei Zhixuan 720 Smart Air Purifier 3s is a mainland-China product that went on sale on December 29, 2022, at a reported launch price of RMB 1,299. It combines an advertised eight-stage purification system, H13 HEPA material, air-quality sensors and Huawei Smart Life controls. It is not a newly launched global Huawei appliance: sales, support and app functions are centered on mainland China, and the unit requires 220V power.
What exactly launched?
The product is sold under names including Huawei Zhixuan 720 Smart Air Purifier 3s, Huawei Smart Selection, Hongmeng Zhixuan and 华为智选 720智能空气净化器3s. Contemporary launch coverage reported the December 29, 2022, China release and RMB 1,299 launch price (ITHome). Huawei’s support database lists the original models as KJ500F-E500A in white and KJ500F-E500B in dark gray (Huawei support).
720 Health Technology is the appliance maker and service provider; Huawei supplies the ecosystem branding, connectivity and Smart Life integration. The product’s continued appearance in current support pages does not make it a 2026 launch.
What “eight-stage purification” means
“Eight-stage” is the product’s system and marketing description, not a universal filtration standard. Launch material identifies a preliminary protective filter, H13-grade HEPA filtration, activated-carbon-related gas adsorption, particle and aerosol treatment, sensor-controlled operation and additional sterilization or air-freshening functions associated with the 720 family (launch report).

The accessible Huawei support pages do not provide a complete, independently validated, stage-by-stage engineering diagram. The safest interpretation is that the purifier combines several mechanical, adsorption, sensing and treatment functions. A claim of up to 99% removal for more than 20 pollutant categories is a manufacturer or launch-report claim, not a guaranteed whole-room result.
- Particles: H13 HEPA media is the main stated particle-filtration element; actual room cleaning also depends on airflow, room volume and filter condition.
- Gases and odors: Activated carbon can adsorb some gases, but capacity depends on carbon quantity, concentration, contact time and saturation.
- Sterilization: Any bacteria or aerosol-virus result needs its organism, exposure time, test standard and chamber conditions before it can be generalized to normal rooms.
Sensors: what the original 3s can and cannot measure
Huawei’s sensor inventory identifies the original 3s as having PM2.5, TVOC, temperature and humidity sensors (Huawei sensor table). It does not have the formaldehyde sensor used by the later Enhanced Edition.
- PM2.5: Indicates fine-particle concentration.
- TVOC: Indicates a broad volatile-organic-compound signal, not a direct formaldehyde measurement.
- Temperature and humidity: Provide environmental context for monitoring and automatic operation.
A low PM2.5 or TVOC display does not prove that formaldehyde or every gaseous pollutant is absent. Placement, airflow, calibration and pollutant concentration can all affect readings.

Smart controls and connectivity
The Huawei Smart Life app supports power control, recommended and manual modes, child lock, filter reset, air-quality reports and service functions (Huawei app guidance). Huawei voice functions can turn the purifier on or off, change fan speed and select modes when network connectivity is available (voice-control support).
Wi-Fi requirements
- 2.4GHz WLAN only; 5GHz networks are not supported.
- Open networks and enterprise, hotel, airport or campus networks requiring a login page are unsupported.
- Regional account and Smart Life availability can affect setup outside mainland China. See Huawei’s network guidance at Huawei support.
NFC pairing
Huawei’s tap-to-connect procedure requires a compatible Huawei phone with NFC and HarmonyOS 2.0 or later. Hold the phone’s NFC area within about 1 centimeter of the purifier’s NFC label. If that fails, add the device manually in Smart Life (NFC instructions).
Power
There is no built-in battery; the purifier must remain connected to mains power (Huawei power information).

Huawei documents the distinction at its comparison page. Do not describe the original model’s TVOC display as formaldehyde detection.

Huawei lists FC500B and FC520A as compatible filters for the original 3s and warns that non-standard or mismatched filters are unsupported (filter guidance). Confirm the purifier’s exact KJ500F model before ordering, and use authorized Huawei channels such as Huawei Mall or its JD.com flagship store where available.
The launch report claimed energy-saving automation could extend filter life by 20%–30% and put daily operation as low as RMB 0.8. Those are usage-dependent launch claims, not guaranteed ownership costs. Actual expense depends on fan speed, pollution load, electricity rates and replacement-filter pricing.

Do not transfer CADR, room-area, noise, power, dimensions, CCM or filter-life figures from another 720 model. Huawei’s published 500 m³/h particle CADR and 60 m² recommendation, for example, belong to a different “720 Full-Effect Air Purifier” page (Huawei specification page), not confirmed 3s specifications.

Technically, some buyers may make an imported unit work, but Huawei does not present the 720 series as an officially supported international product. Huawei’s guidance says sales and service are for mainland China, warns about regional app/account limitations and identifies 220V operation (overseas-use guidance).

United States and other 120V markets
- A plug adapter changes the connector shape, not voltage. Do not connect a 220V-only purifier directly to a 120V outlet.
- A transformer would need suitable capacity for the purifier’s running and startup load and introduces another safety and failure point.
- Mainland-China account requirements, Chinese-language firmware, regional setup behavior and absent local warranty can remain even after solving voltage.
- FC500B or FC520A filters may be difficult or expensive to obtain outside China.
For most international buyers, a locally sold purifier with local filters, warranty and independently documented CADR is the lower-risk choice.

Troubleshooting common ownership problems
Wi-Fi setup fails
- Use a visible 2.4GHz network, not a 5GHz-only SSID.
- Disable or bypass captive-portal, enterprise, hotel, airport and campus authentication.
- Use the mainland-China-compatible Smart Life workflow and account region.
NFC pairing fails
- Confirm NFC is enabled on a compatible Huawei phone running HarmonyOS 2.0 or later.
- Place the NFC area within approximately 1 centimeter of the purifier label.
- Use manual device addition in Smart Life if tap-to-connect remains unavailable.
A replacement filter cannot be found
- Read the purifier label and verify KJ500F-E500A or KJ500F-E500B.
- Search specifically for FC500B or FC520A.
- Do not assume an Enhanced Edition or other 720 filter fits.
- If dependable supply cannot be confirmed, treat that as a reason not to import.
Who should buy it?
The original 3s makes the most sense for a mainland-China buyer already using Huawei’s compatible smart-home ecosystem, able to obtain official filters and satisfied with PM2.5/TVOC monitoring rather than formaldehyde measurement. Choose the Enhanced Edition only when its formaldehyde sensor is a decisive requirement.
International buyers should proceed only after verifying voltage, regional account operation, network compatibility, warranty limits and a sustainable FC500B or FC520A supply. The eight-stage label and “99%” claim alone are not substitutes for independent whole-room performance data.
Verdict
The Huawei Zhixuan 720 Smart Air Purifier 3s is a genuine 2022 China-market smart purifier, not a new global Huawei launch. Its useful strengths are Huawei ecosystem control, automatic sensing, H13 HEPA filtration and broad claimed treatment functions. Its decisive limitations are the original model’s lack of formaldehyde sensing, incomplete public detail about the eight stages, China-only support, 220V power and replacement-filter dependence. Those constraints make it a reasonable domestic-China purchase but a difficult import for most 120V-market households.
