Use Udio by describing the song you want, adding or writing lyrics when needed, generating a vocal or instrumental version, then refining the result with lyric edits, voice-reference blending, extensions, transformations and Sessions. For smart-home readers, that workflow is useful for making original music beds for device tutorials, room-automation videos and connected-home presentations.

Write A Prompt That Fits A Smart-Home Video
Describe the musical job first, then specify mood, pace, instrumentation, vocal choice and structure. Keep the prompt concrete enough to guide a usable edit.

These are creative starting points, not guarantees about genre labels, duration or output behavior. If a specific length, export format or commercial permission matters, verify it in Udio’s current documentation before building a production around it.

Generate Your First Version
- Open Udio and start a new generation.
- Choose whether the piece should be vocal or instrumental; Udio supports both from text prompts and lyrics.
- Paste a focused prompt. Put the most important constraints near the beginning, such as “instrumental background” or “clear lead vocal.”
- If you already have words, add the lyrics and label sections such as verse and chorus so the intended structure is clear.
- Generate a small batch of alternatives, then keep the version whose arrangement leaves room for your narration, captions or device sounds.
Refine Lyrics, Voice And Style
Edit Lyrics At The Line Level
Use Udio’s lyric tools to replace an unclear line, shorten a phrase that crowds the vocal or adjust wording to match the device or routine shown on screen. Preserve the section labels while revising so the chorus and verses remain easy to identify.
Blend A Voice Reference Carefully
Udio can blend voice references. Use a reference only when you have permission from the speaker or performer, and check Udio’s terms for how reference audio may be used. Do not present an imitation as that person’s approved performance.

Shape The Musical Identity
When the arrangement is close but the feel is wrong, revise the prompt with one change at a time: softer percussion for a thermostat demo, a steadier pulse for a lighting automation sequence, or less vocal density beneath spoken instructions. This makes it easier to identify which wording changed the result.

- Select the version with the strongest hook or instrumental bed.
- Use Extend when you need the musical idea to continue into another section, such as moving from a product introduction into a multi-room demonstration.
- Use Transform when the core idea works but the texture, vocal treatment or overall style needs to change.
- Open the result in Sessions and make targeted refinements instead of rewriting the entire prompt.
Udio’s current transition period disables audio, video and stem downloads. Stem separation is available, but stem export is currently disabled, so confirm the live status before planning a DAW mix, video delivery or archive workflow.

Check Udio’s current terms for commercial use, voice references, lyrics and any uploaded material. Obtain consent for voices and other identifiable creative contributions. The U.S. Copyright Office says material generated entirely by AI is not copyrightable, prompts alone do not make someone the author, and only human-authored parts of a mixed work may be protected. If you register a work containing more than a minimal amount of AI-generated material, you must disclose that material and describe your human contribution: U.S. Copyright Office AI guidance.

Use A Simple Smart-Home Production Checklist
- Keep spoken instructions audible by choosing a less crowded arrangement.
- Write device names and routine steps into the lyrics only when they genuinely belong in the song.
- Save the prompt, lyric version and chosen generation together so you can recreate the creative decision later.
- Review Udio’s download and rights status immediately before publishing a tutorial or sponsored device demonstration.
