To turn a hum or voice memo into a song with AI, record a clear take, upload it to a generator that accepts audio references, describe the arrangement you want, and revise the result by listening for whether it kept your idea. Suno, Eleven Music, and Mureka all list audio uploads or reference audio among their capabilities; use a transcription tool instead if your goal is to turn the recording into editable notes rather than a finished production.
Choose The Right Route For Your Recording
First decide what you want to have at the end. A song generator builds an arrangement around an audio reference. A transcription tool tries to represent notes or instruments in a score or MIDI. A phone memo may contain melody, words, chords, room noise, or all of these; a generator may interpret the performance as inspiration rather than reproduce every note exactly.

Record A Clean Humming Or Voice Memo
- Pick one clear idea. Hum the main melodic phrase or speak/sing the lyric and melody you want to keep. If your memo includes several competing ideas, make separate recordings so the tool has a clearer reference.
- Record in a quiet room. Use the voice memo or recording app already available on your device. Keep the phone or microphone a comfortable, consistent distance away, and avoid music playing in the background. - Generate a few alternatives and compare the melody. Listen to the opening, the main phrase, and the ending. Ask whether the generated song follows the shape and timing of your idea, whether it has turned a hum into a different tune, and whether the arrangement leaves the lead audible.
Revise The Parts That Miss Your Idea
Make one change at a time so you can hear what improved. If the arrangement overwhelms the hum, ask for a lighter backing. If the melody drifts, shorten the reference to the clearest phrase and restate that it should remain the lead. If the result has the right opening but the rest feels unfinished, use an extension or section-editing workflow where the product offers it.

Use Transcription When You Need Editable Notes
If the practical goal is to play the melody yourself, share it with a musician, or continue composing from notes, a transcription workflow may help more than song generation. Klangio Transcription Studio handles single instruments and multi-instrument recordings and lists exports including MIDI and MusicXML. Melody Scanner is another option for melody and chord transcription, with web and mobile access. Transcription results should be checked against the recording by ear; the listings do not promise that every hummed phrase will convert perfectly.
For Melody Scanner, the stated free plan allows a one-minute recording, and MIDI and MusicXML export require a paid subscription. Klangio’s free plan allows 20 seconds per transcription; its Pro listing gives a 15-minute maximum length per transcription. Check the vendor’s current plan details before choosing a workflow, since limits and access may change.

Export And Check Rights Before Sharing
Once the result is close, choose an export that suits your next step. Suno lists stem export, but its Free Plan does not include stem separation. Eleven Music lists stems and MP3/WAV exports. Mureka lists audio and MIDI export. Udio is not a suitable export step for this workflow at present: its listing says audio, video, and stem downloads are disabled during a transition period. Confirm the current export options in the product before relying on a particular file format.
