To stop motion recordings from every camera in a Blink system, open the Blink app’s Home screen, select the system, and tap Disarmed. To stop motion recording from just one camera, switch off that camera’s Motion Detection. On supported models, you can instead turn off Video Recording to prevent saved video while keeping motion alerts. Snooze is not a recording pause: it silences notifications, while clips may still be saved.
These steps reflect Blink’s current U.S. app documentation; labels and available controls can vary by model, app layout, firmware, and account. Choose the control that matches what you want to stop—motion clips, alerts, manual viewing, doorbell events, or all camera activity—because Blink treats them separately.

Disarming or switching off Motion Detection prevents new ordinary motion clips; neither setting deletes clips already captured. Doorbell presses, manually started Live View, Photo Capture, and saved Live View sessions can also follow different rules, so “stop recording” does not always mean the same thing as “turn off the camera.”
Stop motion recording across every camera in a system
- Open the Blink app and go to Home.
- Select the relevant system if the app shows more than one.
- Tap Disarmed at the bottom of the screen.
- Check that the system status changes to Disarmed.
Blink says a disarmed system does not record motion events or send motion notifications. This changes the system’s armed state; it does not necessarily switch off each camera’s individual Motion Detection setting. If you arm the system again, cameras with Motion Detection enabled can resume their normal motion behavior. See Blink’s arming and disarming instructions.

Stop motion recording from just one camera
- On the Blink Home screen, find the camera.
- Tap the camera thumbnail’s More (…) button.
- Tap Motion Detection and switch it off.
- Look for the confirmation message or changed motion icon.
If the shortcut is not shown, use More (…) → Device Settings → Motion Settings → Motion Detection → Off. Blink says Motion Detection off means that camera will not detect motion, send motion notifications, or save motion clips. Other cameras in the system can remain active. This is the more targeted choice when, for example, you want to pause an indoor camera without disarming outdoor cameras. See Blink’s Motion Detection guidance.
Stop saved video but keep motion alerts
Some Blink cameras have a separate Video Recording switch. Where it is available, Blink documents this path: More (…) → Device Settings → Privacy Settings → Video Recording → Off. With Motion Detection still on, motion can continue to trigger notifications while video is not recorded; Live View remains available.

This setting is not guaranteed on every camera. If you cannot find it, the model may not expose it, the app layout may differ, or the option may apply to a specific event type. Use Disarmed or Motion Detection off for the broadly documented ways to stop ordinary motion clips. Blink’s device-settings guide describes the control and Live View behavior.

Snooze silences alerts; it does not reliably stop clips
Use Snooze only when you want a temporary break from push notifications. Standard Snooze choices are 30 minutes, 1 hour, 2 hours, 3 hours, or 4 hours. With a Blink Plus subscription or trial, Custom Snooze can be set from 1 minute to 24 hours. While Snooze is active, recordings may continue if cloud or local storage is available. For a recording pause, use Disarmed, Motion Detection off, or Video Recording off where supported instead.

Account for Blink Video Doorbell events
A Video Doorbell can have motion events and doorbell-press events, and some Alexa-compatible screened devices can start automatic Live View. Changing motion recording therefore may not stop doorbell notifications or every kind of saved video.

To stop ordinary motion clips, disarm the system or turn off Motion Detection. To control saved video separately, look for More (…) → Device Settings → Privacy Settings → Video Recording if the Doorbell exposes it. After changing settings, test a motion event and a doorbell press separately. Blink’s current Doorbell support page has an internally inconsistent event-combination table, so do not assume one setting combination will stop every Doorbell event; consult its Doorbell Video Recording guidance and verify the behavior on your device.

Blink cameras can save eligible clips to cloud storage through a subscription or trial, or to local storage with compatible hardware. In the United States, Blink describes cloud video history of up to 60 days. Local clips remain until deleted or until the removable drive is full. The local-storage path depends on the system: Sync Module 2 uses USB storage, while Sync Module XR uses microSD. Legacy XT, XT2, and Indoor 1st Gen devices have different storage rules and should not be assumed to support current local-storage features. Sync Module Core does not support local storage or clip backup.

Removing or lacking storage is not the same as disabling motion detection. Blink says Live View, motion alerts, and two-way audio can remain available without a storage option, even though motion clips will not be saved without cloud or compatible local storage. That may prevent saved clips, but it is not the clearest privacy control if your goal is to stop detection and alerts too.
- Sync Module 2: local storage uses a USB drive.
- Sync Module XR: local storage uses a microSD card.
- Compatible media: Blink’s Sync Module 2 local-storage documentation gives a general capacity range of 1–256 GB, at least 375 MB free, and recommends ExFAT. Check the XR requirements separately for its microSD compatibility and speed specifications.
- Removing media: use the Sync Module 2 Safe Eject function before removing its USB drive.
- Full media: local recording stops when the drive is full. Transfer clips, delete files, or replace the media; reformatting erases stored data.

If clips continue or recording starts again
- Check what kind of clip it is. It may have been captured before you changed the setting, come from another camera or selected system, or be a Live View recording, Doorbell event, Photo Capture event, or delayed local/cloud upload.
- Confirm the right system and camera. Disarming one system does not disarm another; switching off Motion Detection affects only that camera.
- Check automatic arming. In Blink Settings, open Device and System Settings and review scheduled arming rules. Edit or disable a schedule if the system must remain disarmed, then check its state after the next scheduled transition.
- Check Alexa and other routines. Alexa can arm Blink systems, and household automations may change the system state. Review the routines or schedules that could re-arm it.
- Refresh the app and verify status. If the displayed state seems stale, refresh and confirm the system still reads Disarmed.
- Separate alerts from saved clips. If alerts continue but clips do not, Video Recording may be off while Motion Detection remains on—or storage may be unavailable. If clips continue during Snooze, that is expected when storage is active.
- Check model availability. If Video Recording is missing, use the documented system-wide or per-camera motion controls rather than assuming every model has the privacy switch.
Delete recordings already captured
Turning off recording controls prevents future motion clips; it does not erase existing ones. Delete cloud clips separately from the Clip List. Blink warns that deleted cloud clips are permanently removed from its servers and cannot be restored by Blink Support. For USB or microSD recordings, transfer anything you want to keep before deleting it from local storage or reformatting the media.

For a stronger physical privacy stop
App controls change system behavior, but they are not the same as removing power. For a battery-powered camera, removing its batteries stops powered operation; for a wired camera, disconnecting power does so. A physical lens obstruction blocks the visible camera field only and should not be treated as proof that audio or network activity has stopped. Disconnecting Wi-Fi can create connection errors rather than a clear privacy state.
