Improve an AI-generated song by changing one musical problem at a time: revise the prompt or replace a weak section, compare versions, then adjust stems and the final mix only if the song needs it. For a vocal song, start with a short brief describing the emotional arc, vocal delivery, arrangement and ending; avoid asking for a genre-specific sound unless the generator supports it.
Start With A Clear Brief
Before generating or revising, write down what the song should do and what is currently wrong. A useful brief names the listener-facing goal and the musical evidence you want to hear.
- Goal: “Make the chorus feel like the emotional release after a restrained verse.”
- Arrangement: “Keep the verse sparse, add a clear lift in the chorus, and leave space around the lead vocal.”
- Vocal: Describe the delivery in plain terms, such as “close and restrained in the verse, more open in the chorus.”
- Ending: State whether you want a resolved final chord, a gradual fade, or a short instrumental tail.
- Problem to fix: Identify one audible issue, such as a chorus that does not lift, lyrics that are hard to hear, or an ending that feels abrupt.
These are prompt-writing examples, not guaranteed controls or results. Check the generator’s own guidance for supported prompt details, genres and editing options.

- Listen once without editing. Note the timestamp of the first problem and describe what you hear in concrete terms. “The second chorus feels flat” is more actionable than “make it better.”
- Choose the smallest edit. If the issue belongs to one section, use section replacement if it is available in your workflow. If the song needs more time to resolve, consider an extension. If the whole arrangement is wrong, revise the brief before making another version.
- Change one instruction. For example, if the chorus lacks contrast, ask for a fuller arrangement there while keeping the verse restrained. Do not simultaneously rewrite the vocal, mood, instrumentation and structure; otherwise it is harder to tell which change helped.
- Compare at the same point. Listen to the original and the revision from just before the changed section through its transition out. Check whether the new version improves the stated problem without creating a distracting transition.
- Keep a version note. Record the prompt change and the result in a short label, such as “chorus: stronger lift, vocal clearer.” This helps you return to a version that worked better.
- Stop when the target is met. Do not keep regenerating a section that already serves the song; each new version can alter musical details you wanted to keep.
Use Stems To Fix A Specific Mix Problem
If the song’s arrangement works but one element masks another, stem separation can give you parts to inspect or work with in a separate audio editor or DAW. Suno supports stem export. Moises and Fadr also list stem-separation features; Fadr describes separation for vocals, bass, drums, melodies and instrumental stems, while Moises lists up to 27 separation targets. The target availability and results for a particular song are not established here, so check each service before choosing a separation.
- Export or upload a copy. Keep the original full mix unchanged so you can compare it with any separated parts.
- Separate only what you need. For a buried vocal, inspect the vocal and instrumental parts. For a crowded low end, inspect the bass and drum parts if those targets are available.
- Listen for separation artifacts. Check the isolated parts and the recombined mix for warbling, missing attacks or leftover sound from another part. Separation is an estimate from a finished recording, so do not assume each stem will sound clean.
- Make a small adjustment in your audio editor or DAW. Try a modest level change to the part that is too loud or too quiet. Avoid rebuilding the arrangement from imperfect stems unless you are willing to accept artifacts.
- Compare the full result at a consistent playback level. A louder version can seem better even when the balance has not improved.

Polish The Mix Only After The Song Works
Mastering can refine a finished mix, but it cannot repair unclear lyrics or a chorus that lacks musical contrast. If you want a DAW-based final pass, iZotope Ozone is described as a mastering suite with reference and stem workflows; iZotope Neutron 5 is a mixing suite whose Mix Assistant creates a custom starting signal chain. These are producer-oriented desktop DAW tools, so check the product sites for compatible hosts and the specific features available in the edition you are considering.
- Fix the arrangement first. Return to the generation or section-editing stage if the song’s structure, vocal performance or transition is still the problem.
- Use a mix assistant as a starting point. Treat its suggested chain as an initial setup to review, not a verdict on what the song needs.
- Make changes in small increments. Listen to the full song after each adjustment, especially the vocal, bass and transition into the chorus.
- Check the result on your usual listening setup. Use the same volume when comparing the original and revised mix, and check that the vocal and main musical idea remain clear.
Check Rights Before Sharing
Get consent before using a real person’s voice, and check the relevant platform terms before using voices, covers or samples. Suno’s Free Plan does not include commercial rights; do not assume a generated song or separated stem is cleared for commercial use based on the workflow alone.
