Create an AI vocal cover legally by clearing the song rights for your intended use, using a voice you have permission to use, and checking that the cover tool’s terms allow your planned release. A tool’s permission to generate or download audio does not establish that you can publish the song or imitate a real artist.
Step 1: Decide Where The Cover Will Go
Write down whether you want a private draft, a personal-use upload, or a public or commercial release. The distinction matters: product terms can restrict commercial use, and the available information here does not establish a universal license for the underlying song. If you plan to publish, identify the relevant rights holder and obtain the permissions your use requires before uploading or distributing the cover. Check the platform where you plan to post it for its current requirements.
Step 2: Choose A Voice You Are Allowed To Use
Use your own voice, a voice model whose terms explicitly permit your intended use, or a real person’s voice with that person’s authorization. Step 4: Prepare An Authorized Vocal Performance
Use a vocal recording you made or have permission to use, and follow the selected service’s input rules. A cover workflow changes the vocal performance or its voice; it does not make an uncleared song, backing track, or voice model authorized. If you do not have a permitted recording or the source material’s rights are unclear, stop and check with the relevant rights holder and vendor before uploading.
Step 5: Generate A Draft And Review The Result
- Open the chosen cover tool and confirm that its current terms cover your planned use and chosen voice.
- Provide only the audio or other input you are authorized to use, then select a voice you are permitted to use.
- Generate a draft and listen for vocal artifacts, missed lyrics, timing problems, or a voice resemblance that goes beyond the permission you have.
- Save or export the draft only if the service terms allow that action for your account and intended use.
Do not assume that a platform supports a particular genre, language, or detailed musical control unless the vendor states that it does. Check the product site for those specifics before building a workflow around them.

Step 6: Check Disclosure And Upload Rules Before Publishing
Recheck the destination platform’s current rules and provide any required AI or rights disclosures. Spotify said in 2025 that it supports DDEX AI disclosures in credits. In August 2026, it announced an “AI Persona” badge for artist identities that may be AI-generated rather than a real person; that badge concerns identity transparency and does not clear a song or voice for use.
