To cover a song legally, clear the rights relevant to your release before you publish it; an AI cover generator does not, by itself, establish that you have those rights. Check the song, the recording you upload, any voice you imitate, and the generator’s terms separately. If you cannot confirm a permission or license for your intended use, pause and ask the relevant rights holder or a qualified professional.
Decide What Your Cover Will Use
Write down the song title and writers, whether you will use an existing recording or your own performance, whose voice the output will imitate, and where you plan to share or monetize it. These details help you ask the right people and check the right terms. Keep the original track, your vocal performance, and the generated cover identified as separate files.
- The song: Identify the song and its rights holders. Confirm what permission or license is needed for your intended release, territory, and use with the relevant rights holders or a qualified professional.
- The source recording: If you upload a released recording, check that you have permission to use that recording in the service and in the finished cover. A tool that accepts audio or video does not establish that permission.
- The voice: Use a voice you have permission to use. Do not assume that a public or user-created AI voice is authorized to impersonate a real artist. TwoShot flags likeness-rights concerns around real-artist imitation; Spotify says impersonation is allowed on its platform only when the artist has authorized it.
- Your release: Check the generator’s terms for the specific plan and output, then verify that those terms cover your intended publication and commercial use. The service’s terms do not replace any separate song or recording clearance you need.
Compare The Cover Tools’ Stated Use Limits
The listed terms show why a downloadable file is not the same as a cleared release. Where a tool’s supplied details do not establish a commercial-use term, check its current terms before relying on the output.

Make A Cover Without Losing Track Of Permissions
- Set the release scope. Note whether the cover is personal, public, or commercial, and where you plan to post it. Do this before choosing a plan or uploading audio.
- Identify the rights holders and inputs. Record the song title and writers, the source recording if you are using one, and the voice model you intend to use. Save any permission or license information with the project.
- Check each permission against the planned use. Ask the relevant rights holders or a qualified professional what permissions are needed for your use. Check the generator’s current terms for your plan, voice model, uploaded material, and intended release. Do not infer a right to publish from a successful conversion or download.
- Prepare a clean source. If you have permission to use a recording, keep its file and source details. If you are recording your own performance, keep that recording separately. FineShare Singify lists a 20-minute and 30 MB upload limit; other input limits are not established here, so check the service before preparing a long session.
- Choose a voice you are authorized to use. For a real person’s voice, get that person’s consent and check the service’s voice terms. A generic or custom voice is not automatically cleared for your release either; verify its terms.
- Generate and review the cover. Use a clear instruction that describes the performance you want, for example: “Keep the song’s melody, timing, phrasing, and lyrics; use the authorized voice model; make the vocal a solo performance.” TwoShot describes preserving melody, timing, phrasing, and lyrics during AI vocal revoicing. Other tools’ supplied details do not establish those controls, so check their interfaces and terms rather than assuming this instruction will work everywhere. Check genre support and any key, pitch, or arrangement controls in the chosen service before relying on them.
- Keep a release record. Save the final audio, the tool and plan used, the voice model, the permissions you obtained, and the applicable terms. If you distribute the track, check the distributor’s current disclosure and metadata requirements. Spotify has announced support for DDEX AI disclosures in credits; that does not establish the rules of other services.
Check Platform Rules Before Uploading
Distribution rules can add requirements beyond a generator’s terms. On September 25, 2025, Spotify announced that artist vocal impersonation is allowed only when the artist has authorized it, described a music spam filter for mass uploads and duplicates, and said it supports DDEX AI disclosures in credits. On August 11, 2026, Spotify announced an “AI Persona” badge for artist identities that may be AI-generated rather than a real person. Check Spotify’s current rules, and the current rules of any other service where you plan to release the cover.

When To Hold The Release
- You cannot identify who can authorize the use of the song or source recording.
- The voice model imitates a real artist and you do not have that person’s authorization.
- The generator’s terms do not clearly cover your plan, voice model, or intended public or commercial use.
- You have a file to download but cannot confirm the permissions needed for the planned release.
In those cases, hold publication while you verify the terms and permissions with the relevant rights holders or a qualified professional.
