To convert a voice recording into MIDI, upload the recording to a transcription service that accepts audio or browser recordings, review the detected notes, then export a MIDI file. For a sung or hummed melody, Songscription is the clearest fit because its listed instrument coverage includes vocals and its exports include MIDI. Melody Scanner is useful for melody and chord transcription, while Klangio Transcription Studio and MuScriptor are broader recording-to-score options.

Prepare The Voice Recording
- Record one clear sung, hummed or spoken-pitch line when possible. Keep the intended melody in the foreground and avoid unnecessary backing parts.
- Trim silence at the beginning and end, and save the file in a format accepted by the service you choose. If you use a browser recorder, confirm that the recording is saved before leaving the page.
- Decide whether you need only the melody or also chords and notation. A monophonic melody gives you a simpler MIDI part; a mixed recording can produce extra notes that need editing.
Convert The Recording To MIDI
- Open your chosen service and select its audio upload, browser recording or direct-recording option.
- Upload the trimmed voice file, or record the passage in the browser. Stay within the tool’s stated length limit: Songscription’s free allowance is 30 seconds, Melody Scanner allows one minute on its free plan, Klangio’s free allowance is 20 seconds, and MuScriptor is free without a stated duration in the supplied details.
- Choose the closest available transcription or melody workflow. Do not assume a setting for vocal separation, genre, language or a particular singing style unless the vendor documents it.
- Wait for the notation or note result, then play it back against the original recording. Check the first note, phrase endings, repeated notes and any sustained syllables.
- Correct obvious wrong pitches or note lengths in the service’s editor when available. Melody Scanner provides browser score editing; the supplied details do not establish the same editing feature for every other tool.
- Use the service’s export control and select MIDI. Songscription, Melody Scanner, Klangio Transcription Studio and MuScriptor list MIDI export or MIDI output. Save the downloaded file with a descriptive name such as verse-melody-v1.mid.
- Open the MIDI in your music software, assign an instrument, and quantize or shorten notes only as needed. Keep the original audio beside the MIDI so you can compare timing and pitch while editing.
Fix Common Voice-Transcription Problems
Extra Notes Appear
Use a cleaner, more isolated vocal take and remove accompaniment before transcribing if your workflow allows it. If the recording contains several musical parts, expect more manual cleanup; Songscription explicitly does not support full-band or orchestral transcription.
Pitch Is One Octave Wrong
Compare the exported notes with the recording phrase by phrase and transpose the MIDI track after confirming the error is consistent. Do not treat a single wrong note as evidence that the whole take needs transposing.

The File Is Too Long
Split the recording into musical phrases that fit the selected plan’s limit, process each phrase, and place the exported MIDI clips end to end. Melody Scanner’s listed maximum is five minutes, Klangio Pro’s is 15 minutes per transcription, and Songscription’s Plus limit is 15 minutes per transcription.
