Yes. GE Profile released a smaller nugget-ice maker called the GE Profile Opal Mini Nugget Ice Maker. Announced in February 2026 and available starting in July, the Mini is a new compact Opal design—not just a revised tank. Its strongest space-saving feature is its 8.6-inch width, though it still needs 15.6 inches of counter depth and room above for filling.
What is the Opal Mini?
The Opal Mini is GE Profile’s compact version of its Opal countertop nugget-ice maker. GE announced it at KBIS on February 17, 2026, and said availability would begin in July. The lineup has three versions: Opal Mini, Opal Mini Pro, and Opal Mini Pro+. GE says the range was redesigned around a smaller footprint, easier refilling, and easier cleaning. GE’s February announcement and July launch details describe the launch and models.
Nugget ice is made from small ice crystals packed together into softer, more chewable pieces than conventional hard cubes. GE describes the Opal’s ice as “Legit Nugget Ice”; the Mini is designed to make that style of ice. GE’s original 2015 explanation describes the ice-making concept.

GE’s current product page lists the standard Mini at 14.56 inches high, 8.6 inches wide, and 15.6 inches deep. For comparison, a GE-listed Opal 2.0 Ultra with side tank measures 16.5 inches high, 13.43 inches wide, and 17.5 inches deep. These are dimensions for the listed models, not a universal comparison across every Opal configuration.

Dimensions and output are from GE’s current Opal product page and the listed Opal 2.0 Ultra with side tank. GE describes the Mini as having a footprint 30% smaller than the Opal Ultra, a manufacturer comparison. Use the model dimensions above to judge the counter fit: the Mini is substantially narrower in these listings, but is still more than 15 inches deep.
What changed besides the size?
The Mini changes how users fill and access the machine. The standard model uses a top-fill reservoir rather than relying on a larger side-tank arrangement. GE also describes a flip-open front panel for cleaning access and a drain-and-dry system intended to help drain key areas and reduce buildup. These features are intended to make maintenance easier; they do not eliminate the need to clean, drain, and descale an ice maker.

GE lists the Mini as Wi-Fi enabled and compatible with SmartHQ. Its product page also lists compatibility with GE’s scale-inhibiting filter. Filter compatibility is not a guarantee against mineral buildup, especially where water is hard. Check the current GE Opal product page for model-specific features.

How much do the Mini models cost, and where are they sold?
GE’s July 2026 launch announcement listed these prices. They are launch price signals, not guaranteed current checkout prices; retailer, color, stock, and promotions can change what a buyer pays.

At launch, GE said the Stone Grey Mini would be sold through GE Appliances, Amazon, and select retailers. Charcoal Grey was listed on GE’s site and exclusively at Walmart at launch; the Pro and Pro+ were listed through GE and select retailers. For current stock and pricing, GE’s Opal shopping page is the direct starting point. Prices and color availability can vary by retailer and date.
Does the Mini make less ice?
GE’s current product page rates the Mini at up to 34 pounds per day and 1.5 pounds per hour. GE’s July 2026 launch announcement instead says up to 36 pounds per day. The current listed Ultra configuration is rated up to 38 pounds per day and 1.6 pounds per hour under GE’s stated conditions; its listing also gives a lower 32-pound-per-day figure under DOE conditions. These figures are not a clean apples-to-apples guarantee of what a household will collect in a day: production depends on the stated conditions and real-world use, and GE’s Mini pages do not present one consistent daily figure.

The practical conclusion is that the Mini has household-scale production, but its rating is slightly below the Ultra listing. Choose based on your usual ice demand and water-reservoir preference, not only a headline daily-output number.
Who is the Mini a good fit for?
The Mini makes the most sense when counter width is the constraint and nugget ice is the priority. At 8.6 inches wide in GE’s current listing, it is suited to narrow kitchen counters, apartments, beverage stations, bar carts, and home offices. GE also identifies dorm rooms as a potential use case, but users should check their housing rules and available power and drainage arrangements.

- Choose the standard Mini if you want the narrowest listed configuration and can refill its top reservoir as needed.
- Consider the Mini Pro if you want a compact machine but value a larger-capacity side tank.
- Consider the Pro+ if you want the side tank and prefer its stainless finish.
Those are configuration trade-offs, not a claim that one version is universally better. The Pro and Pro+ cost more at launch, so the larger reservoir or finish should be worth the added expense to you.
When might a larger Opal be the better choice?
A larger Opal may suit a household that uses ice continuously, wants the side tank included, or has enough counter space to prioritize a larger stated production rating. The listed Ultra is wider and deeper than the Mini, but offers the side tank and a higher peak production figure. Availability can vary by configuration: GE’s product listing may show stock, clearance, or discontinued status for a particular Ultra model, so verify the exact model before buying.
Will it fit your counter?
Do not judge fit by width alone. Before ordering, check the machine’s listed dimensions against the actual spot where it will sit, including room to fill, operate, drain, and clean it.
