Eve has announced a new wall-mounted smart thermostat for North American homes, but it is not yet a straightforward buy. The Eve Thermostat debuted at CES 2026 with Matter-over-Thread connectivity, touch controls, local operation, and an announced price of $129.95. However, Eve’s U.S. product page still showed the thermostat as “Coming Soon” as of August 16, 2026, and the company has not publicly provided enough detail to confirm compatibility with every HVAC system.
What Eve announced at CES 2026
Eve announced the Eve Thermostat on January 5, 2026, at CES in Las Vegas. The product is intended for the North American market and is designed to control a home’s heating and cooling system through Matter over Thread.
Eve announced a $129.95 U.S. price and said the thermostat would launch in the first quarter of 2026. Those are launch claims, not proof that the product shipped on schedule. Eve’s current U.S. product page still labels it “Coming Soon.” Readers should therefore treat availability and the announced price as subject to confirmation.

Features Eve has confirmed
The announcement confirms the following capabilities:
- Temperature adjustment from the thermostat itself
- Touch controls and a large display
- Configurable temperature presets
- Heating and cooling modes
- Fan settings
- An eco-mode display icon
- Matter-over-Thread connectivity
- Automations and remote access through a compatible smart-home hub
- No required Eve cloud account, Eve subscription, or Eve registration
Eve has not established that the thermostat includes adaptive learning, occupancy detection, native geofencing, energy reporting, or automatic preheating. Buyers should not assume it behaves like a Nest Learning Thermostat simply because it is a smart thermostat.
Matter and Thread are not the same thing
The product’s “Matter over Thread” label describes two different parts of its connectivity:
- Matter is the smart-home application standard that allows compatible devices to work with supported ecosystems.
- Thread is the low-power mesh networking technology used to connect the device.
A simplified connection path looks like this:

Matter does not remove the need for compatible network equipment. Eve says automations and remote access require a compatible hub, such as an Apple TV or HomePod running software version 26 or later. Setup also requires the Eve app on an iPhone or iPad.
Basic local control, schedules, remote access, voice control, presence automations, and advanced thermostat features may not work identically in Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Samsung SmartThings, and Home Assistant. Matter improves interoperability, but it does not guarantee feature parity across platforms.
Installation: the important unanswered questions
The Eve announcement is not a complete installation manual. It mentions an optional C-wire adapter for older HVAC installations, but it does not publish the full terminal layout, supported voltage ranges, or a complete compatibility matrix in the available announcement material.

Before replacing an existing thermostat, verify:
- Whether the home uses forced-air heating and cooling, a heat pump, hydronic equipment, or another system type
- Whether a C-wire is present and functional
- Whether the optional C-wire adapter is appropriate for the installation
- Whether the system uses single-stage or multi-stage heating or cooling
- Whether it includes auxiliary or emergency heat
- Whether humidifiers, dehumidifiers, variable-speed equipment, or other accessories are connected
- Whether the existing wall opening can be covered by the supplied trim plate
- Whether the home has a compatible Matter controller and Thread Border Router
A C-wire adapter may solve a power problem, but it does not prove that the thermostat supports a particular HVAC topology. Homeowners with heat pumps, multi-stage systems, auxiliary heat, or unusual wiring should wait for Eve’s official manual and compatibility chart or consult a qualified HVAC professional.

Do not rely on wire colors alone or install the thermostat from a product announcement. The correct wiring depends on the equipment and the manufacturer’s terminal instructions.
Privacy: local Eve operation, not necessarily a cloud-free smart home
Eve says the thermostat communicates locally and does not require an Eve cloud account, registration, tracking, or subscription. That is a meaningful advantage for buyers who want to avoid a proprietary thermostat service.
It does not mean every complete installation is cloud-free. Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, Samsung SmartThings, and other platforms may use their own accounts, remote-access services, telemetry, or cloud infrastructure. Voice assistants in particular typically rely on platform services even when the accessory itself supports local operation.

The precise claim is therefore: Eve says the thermostat itself does not require Eve’s cloud or a subscription. That should not be expanded into a guarantee of absolute privacy across every supported ecosystem.

Do not confuse Eve Thermostat with Eve Thermo
Eve’s product naming is especially important for buyers in North America and Europe. These products are not interchangeable.

Eve’s European support information says the European Eve Thermostat is designed for water-based 230-volt underfloor heating switched through a Triac or classic relay. It does not support boilers or heat pumps according to that page. Eve separately lists European model numbers 10ECT1751 and 20ECT1701.
Those European specifications should not automatically be applied to the North American CES product. Conversely, the North American announcement should not be treated as evidence that the European model can control a central HVAC system.
For reference, Eve Thermo attaches to compatible radiator valves and uses replaceable AA batteries. Eve Thermo Control works with Eve Thermo and is not a universal controller for thermostats made by other manufacturers.

Availability reality check
The announcement timeline and the current product page do not fully agree:
- January 5, 2026: Eve announced the thermostat at CES in Las Vegas.
- Announced timing: Q1 2026.
- Announced price: $129.95 in the United States.
- Announced retailers: Eve, Apple, and Amazon.
- Latest status in the supplied research, August 16, 2026: Eve’s U.S. page still said “Coming Soon.”
The existence of an official product page does not establish that the thermostat is shipping. Until Eve posts an active purchase listing, shipping information, and the North American installation documentation, the safest conclusion is that the product has been announced but its retail availability remains unclear.
Who should wait for more information?
The Eve Thermostat may suit buyers who want a restrained wall design, Matter interoperability, local device operation, and no Eve subscription. It is particularly interesting for households already equipped with a compatible Matter controller and Thread Border Router.
Waiting is the better choice if you:
- Need a thermostat immediately
- Have a heat pump, multi-stage HVAC system, auxiliary heat, or unusual accessories
- Expect Nest-style learning or automatic schedule optimization
- Need confirmed support for Home Assistant, Alexa, SmartThings, or Google Home features beyond basic Matter control
- Do not already have suitable Matter and Thread infrastructure
- Live outside the announced North American market
- Are considering it for a European boiler or radiator system
For a straightforward replacement, a conventional thermostat manufacturer with a published compatibility checker may currently be easier to evaluate. Buyers prioritizing mature HVAC controls and room sensors may also prefer an established thermostat platform, while buyers prioritizing Matter-over-Thread and Eve’s local-first design may find it worth monitoring.
Bottom line
Eve’s CES 2026 announcement is real and technically promising: the Eve Thermostat combines a minimalist wall design with Matter over Thread, on-device controls, and Eve’s stated no-subscription, no-Eve-cloud approach. But the practical buying decision is not yet settled.
As of the latest supplied availability check on August 16, 2026, Eve’s U.S. page still said “Coming Soon.” The North American model’s complete HVAC compatibility, wiring requirements, and final shipping status also remain insufficiently documented. Treat the $129.95 price and Q1 launch as announced targets, not confirmed current retail facts, and wait for Eve’s manual or an active listing before committing to installation.
