The Eureka J15 Max Ultra is a premium robot vacuum and mop built around an unusual promise: detect certain liquid messes, lift its roller brush, and mop instead of pulling the spill into the vacuum’s dust path. Its extending mop, automated dock and high threshold claims make it a capable hard-floor cleaner on paper. But Eureka’s spill detection has limits, and independent testing found gaps in obstacle avoidance and dried-stain removal. It is best viewed as a feature-rich mopping robot—not a guarantee that you can leave every mess to a machine.
What the J15 Max Ultra is—and when it launched
Eureka unveiled the J15 Max Ultra at CES 2025. It is the top model in Eureka’s J15 series, above the J15 Pro Ultra and J15 Ultra. Its headline feature is IntelliView AI 2.0, a vision-and-sensor system intended to identify objects and certain wet or stained areas, then adjust how the robot cleans.
This is on-device classification and cleaning automation, not a conversational AI assistant. The robot does not understand every mess, identify a liquid’s chemical composition, or make hazardous spills safe. Some promoted functions also depend on app settings or software updates, so features and labels can vary by firmware. How its spill detection is supposed to work
Eureka says IntelliView AI 2.0 combines FHD and infrared vision with laser navigation and other sensors. When it identifies a qualifying liquid spill, the advertised workflow is to lift the roller brush, reposition or turn the robot, and mop rather than draw the liquid into the dustbin. Eureka says the system recognizes more than 200 object types and 30 stain types under its own or SGS testing; those figures are not a guarantee of recognition in every home.
There are important limits. Eureka says liquid must be thicker than 1.5 mm for detection, and describes intelligent strategizing as a beta capability. Thin films, glare, reflective floors, poor contrast, contamination or a partially dried spill may affect recognition. A dirty mop pad or an awkward approach can still smear a detected mess. The robot also cannot tell you whether a liquid is safe to touch or clean up with a mop.
Consumer Reports questioned whether the wet-spill feature performs as impressively in testing as Eureka’s marketing suggests. That does not prove it never works: results depend on the spill, floor and conditions. It does mean buyers should treat spill detection as a useful possible assist, not a dependable substitute for immediate cleanup. Do not rely on a robot to handle raw meat juices, pet urine or feces, vomit, cleaning chemicals, hot liquids, broken glass, or a large amount of water. Address hazardous or substantial messes yourself.

Mopping, edges and everyday cleaning
The J15 Max Ultra uses two rotating mop pads and an extending mop mechanism that can reach outward near edges, corners and furniture legs. It also has a motorized extending side brush, which is intended to improve edge coverage. For sealed hard floors, that setup is aimed at routine dust, footprints, food residue and ordinary daily soil. Eureka says the robot can lift its mop when appropriate and return to the dock for maintenance.
The system is not a guarantee against stubborn stains. Notebookcheck found everyday cleaning and edge coverage useful, but reported that dried-on stains could challenge the rotating-pad design compared with newer roller-mop systems. Aged or sticky residue may need repeat passes or manual scrubbing.
Eureka rates mop washing at 80°C and hot-air drying at 55°C. These are manufacturer specifications, not a promise that every pad will emerge spotless or odor-free. Heated washing and drying can reduce routine work, but cannot eliminate it.
What the dock automates—and what you still maintain
Eureka describes an eight-function self-cleaning system. In practical terms, the base is designed to empty robot dust, fill it with clean water, collect dirty water, wash and dry the mop pads, clean the base tray, collect tray dirt and charge the robot. The dock is large, so plan for its footprint before choosing a location.

Owners still need to inspect or refill the clean-water tank, empty and clean the dirty-water tank, replace dust bags, and check the brush, mop pads, sensors and cameras for hair, string, residue or dust. Persistent residue or odors can call for a closer look at the base tray. Eureka advises periodic roller-brush maintenance and says not to clean the dust cup in a dishwasher. Bags, pads, brushes and cleaning supplies also create ongoing costs.

The suction figures are inconsistent on Eureka’s own materials, so “about 22,000 Pa” is the fairest shorthand. The 360-minute runtime is a maximum manufacturer claim, not a prediction for mixed vacuuming and mopping. Likewise, 62 dB(A) is specified for mopping-only mode, not necessarily vacuuming at maximum power or dock operation. The 4.5-cm threshold figure applies to a complex double-layer threshold under stated test conditions; it should not be read as a guarantee that the robot will climb any single vertical step.
The listed package includes the robot and base station, two mop pads and holders, one side brush, one roller brush, three dust bags (one preinstalled), a cleaning brush, a base ramp and an instruction manual. Check the live listing for any changes to the included accessories.

What testing suggests about its real-world performance
Reviews generally credit the J15 Max Ultra with good everyday pickup, useful extending edge hardware and relatively low routine maintenance. The caveats matter: Notebookcheck reported that the robot sometimes contacted thin black chair legs, picked up a sock, missed a loose shoelace and failed to detect a small toy brick. It also reported that obstacle avoidance could be less dependable while the robot was returning to its dock. Consumer Reports raised questions about real-world wet-spill performance, while Notebookcheck found dried stains challenging. Notebookcheck’s review, Consumer Reports’ review and Tom’s Guide’s review provide independent perspectives; their results do not establish how it will perform in every home.

Before early runs, clear cables, socks, shoelaces, toys and pet waste. Stay nearby for the first few cleaning cycles, and use no-go zones around fragile items, water bowls, unstable furniture and areas with loose cords. More sensors do not make a robot’s obstacle avoidance foolproof.

These are Eureka’s listed comparisons, not independent performance rankings. The Max Ultra’s main advantages on paper are its newer IntelliView generation, additional sensing hardware, larger battery, higher suction claim and stronger threshold claim. If those features are not priorities, compare the J15 Ultra and J15 Max Ultra at current prices. The J15 Evo Ultra is another series option, but do not assume its dock, brush, tank or AI capabilities match the Max Ultra; check its product specifications.

App features, voice control and privacy
Some features require activation in the Eureka app or may depend on a future over-the-air update. Eureka says adaptive carpet strategies must be enabled manually and may depend on an update; enhanced Pet Area Deep Cleaning also requires manual enabling and was listed as future-OTA functionality. Intelligent strategizing and stain recognition may change through software updates. Exact app menus can change, so look for the relevant carpet or pet-cleaning option in the current app rather than relying on an assumed click path.
Eureka lists Alexa, Google Assistant and Siri integration. That means supported ecosystem integration, not necessarily natural-language control of every cleaning function. Because the robot uses vision sensors and connects to an app, camera and data practices are worth considering if you prefer camera-free cleaning. Review Eureka’s current privacy information and app settings before connecting it.

- A stronger fit: Homes with mostly sealed hard floors, frequent ordinary food or drink spills, and buyers who value automated mop washing and drying, edge coverage or the advertised ability to cross challenging thresholds. Pet owners and households with long hair may also value its hair-cutting brush maintenance, while remembering that floor hazards still need attention.
- A weaker fit: Homes with many loose cords, toys, socks or shoelaces; buyers who need highly dependable small-object avoidance; or anyone expecting dried stains to disappear without manual work.
- Think twice if: You need a compact dock, camera-free operation, fully documented long-term repairability and parts availability, or a low-upkeep system with no consumable costs. Carpet-focused homes should verify that the required carpet settings and updates are available.
At full list price, compare it with competing flagships rather than assuming its feature count makes it the best choice. Reviews of the J15 Max Ultra have pointed to Roborock and Dreame models as alternatives that may have advantages in navigation, obstacle avoidance or newer mopping designs. Android Authority, for example, compared it with the Roborock Saros 10R and judged the Roborock stronger on navigation while more expensive in that review’s comparison. Price and buying check
The price evidence here is for the U.S. market: Eureka’s page listed $1,199.99 on August 18, 2026, while a separate campaign page showed $799.99 after a discount. The lower price may be temporary, so confirm the checkout amount, stock, warranty, shipping and return terms. At a substantial discount, the Max Ultra is easier to justify for buyers who specifically want automated hard-floor mopping and spill-aware cleaning. At full price, weigh those benefits against obstacle-avoidance limits, stain performance, privacy, dock size and the alternatives’ navigation and mopping strengths.
