Verdict: The Deebot X8 Pro Omni is most compelling as a premium hard-floor cleaner whose continuously rinsed roller mop also happens to work with Apple Home through Matter. That integration is useful for basic control and automations, but it does not turn Apple Home into a replacement for the Ecovacs app. In August 2026, there is another practical complication for US buyers: Ecovacs’ official product page lists the X8 as sold out. Consider it if you can find a properly warranted unit at a worthwhile discount; at a premium price, newer alternatives may make more sense.
This review is about the US-listed X8 Pro Omni and the Apple Home experience documented for the model. Availability, station configuration, voltage, included accessories, and warranty can differ by country. Ecovacs’ specifications below are manufacturer claims, not independent measurements, and stock status can change.
At a glance
- Best for: Apple Home users who want an all-in-one robot with a roller mop and mostly hard floors.
- Smart-home headline: Matter lets the robot appear in Apple Home and supports basic Siri control and Home automations. It is not equivalent to full native HomeKit functionality.

Matter, Apple Home, and “HomeKit”: what the integration means
The clearest description is that the X8 Pro Omni works with Apple Home through Matter. Matter is the interoperability standard; Apple Home is the interface where the robot can appear. That is different from saying the X8 is a traditional native HomeKit accessory with every Ecovacs feature exposed in Apple’s app. Apple added robot-vacuum support to Home in iOS 18.4, and hands-on reports describe the X8 appearing in Home, responding to basic Siri commands, and being usable in automations. In practice, think of Apple Home as a convenient control layer: a way to start or stop a cleaning run or include a basic robot action in a household routine. For example, a Home automation might trigger cleaning when you leave, subject to the options exposed by the current firmware and Apple Home setup. Do not assume that room names, maps, custom sequences, mop settings, camera controls, or every YIKO voice command transfer to Apple Home. The exact controls can change with robot firmware, the Ecovacs app, iOS, and the Home interface.

The Ecovacs app remains important for initial setup, mapping, room selection, cleaning preferences, maintenance, and supported video features. Ecovacs describes app controls including remote operation, cleaning order, spot and area cleaning, water-flow and vacuum-power adjustment, accessory reminders, and video functions on supported devices. Matter support should not be read as proof that the robot is fully local or independent of Ecovacs accounts and services: advanced app functions, maps, firmware, and video may still rely on Ecovacs infrastructure.
Pairing: get the robot working before adding it to Home
Pairing depends on the current software and the exact regional device. Start by setting up the robot in ECOVACS HOME, connecting it to Wi-Fi, and installing available updates. Then use the Matter pairing flow and setup code offered by the app or device. You will need a compatible Apple device and current software; an Apple Home hub or compatible Matter controller may be needed for the automations and remote access you intend to use. Keep Wi-Fi and Bluetooth available during onboarding, and follow the current in-app instructions rather than relying on a setup sequence from an older review.
If Apple Home pairing fails, first confirm the X8 works normally in ECOVACS HOME and check for firmware and app updates. Remove an incomplete or stale accessory entry from Home if one was created, then restart the robot, phone, and Home hub before trying the current Matter pairing flow again. If that does not help, consult Ecovacs support and the X8 manual; it is an EMEA edition, so details may differ from the US model. Removing and re-adding a robot or resetting Matter is not a universal fix for account, Wi-Fi, or regional compatibility problems.

The X8 combines a robot vacuum, an OZMO Roller wet-cleaning system, and an OMNI station. The robot uses dToF navigation and RGBD obstacle detection; it also has a camera-based recognition system. The dock collects dust, washes the roller, refills the robot’s water supply, dispenses detergent, and dries the roller with hot air.
For the official US listing, the robot measures 353 × 351.5 × 98 mm. The station is approximately 350 × 477 × 533 mm with its base. The robot has a 0.22-liter dust box, while the station uses a 3-liter dust bag and 4-liter clean- and dirty-water tanks. These dimensions matter as much as the feature list: measure the dock location, account for access to the tanks and tray, and check clearance for the robot under furniture before buying. Mopping: the X8’s most meaningful hardware difference
Unlike robots that drag stationary pads or rotate mop discs, the X8 uses a roller that Ecovacs says is continuously rinsed with fresh water during cleaning, with dirty water scraped away. The idea is to keep the working surface cleaner as the robot travels, rather than repeatedly using a pad that accumulates soil. The station then washes the roller after a run. Ecovacs claims 16 water nozzles, a roller speed of 200 rotations per minute, adaptive edge extension, AI stain detection, and washing temperatures up to 75°C. It specifies 63°C hot-air drying. Treat these as manufacturer specifications, not independently verified cleaning results.
The design makes the most sense for homes with substantial hard-floor areas and regular tracked-in dirt, kitchen marks, or sticky messes. The real test is not the roller’s advertised speed; it is whether it removes dried stains without leaving excess water or streaks, reaches along baseboards and into corners, and stays acceptably clean and odor-free between maintenance. Those results depend on flooring, stains, settings, and how promptly the owner empties and cleans the station. A roller adds parts and surfaces that need inspection, even when the dock automates washing and drying.
Carpet transitions also need attention. Configure carpet behavior in the app and verify the robot’s response in your home instead of assuming the mop will never contact a rug. Ecovacs lists carpet recognition and carpet-related options, including vacuum-only and no-entry behavior, but performance depends on detection and settings. Low rugs, fringe, dark floor coverings, and unusual transitions are sensible edge cases to test while supervising early runs.
Vacuuming, hair, and carpet trade-offs
Ecovacs advertises up to 18,000Pa suction and lists a floating rubber main brush and ZeroTangle 2.0 anti-tangle system. Those are claims and design descriptions—not a reliable way to compare pickup with another brand. Pascal figures are not a substitute for controlled pickup tests, and “anti-tangle” does not mean that long hair can never wrap around a brush or axle.
For a meaningful comparison, look for repeatable results on larger debris, fine dust, pet hair embedded in carpet, long human hair, and debris collected along edges. Also consider whether the brush is easy to remove and clean after several runs, and whether carpet pickup remains good with the mop hardware attached. Independent coverage generally characterizes the X8 as a strong cleaner, while noting that buyers who do not need its Matter and roller-mop features may find similar basic cleaning value in less expensive Ecovacs models. The X8’s dToF navigation and RGBD sensing are paired with Ecovacs’ AIVI 3D 3.0 object-recognition and TruEdge edge-sensing claims. Recognition is not the same as reliably avoiding every object: a robot may identify a class of object and still snag a cable, nudge a toy, or struggle with a low or reflective obstacle. Cables, socks, pet toys, dark objects, chair legs, low furniture, thresholds, and clutter are useful real-home checks. Do not run it unattended around pet accidents or other hazards on the assumption that AI detection will catch everything.

The camera and video features are also a privacy consideration, not merely a navigation benefit. Review the app permissions and account security, understand when remote viewing is enabled, and decide whether a camera-equipped robot suits your home. The supplied product information does not establish that camera access or all robot functions are cloud-free, so Matter alone should not be treated as a privacy guarantee.
Ownership: automated chores are not no-maintenance
The dock reduces daily handling, but the US specification lists automatic refill and drain as “No.” You must fill the clean-water tank and empty the dirty-water tank manually. You will also replace the disposable dust bag and, over time, filters, brushes, and the roller; inspect and clean the station tray; and deal with detergent. Ecovacs’ “150-days maintenance-free” language is a manufacturer marketing claim, not a promise that the system needs no inspection or cleaning for five months. Drying can reduce retained moisture, but it cannot guarantee that neglected dirty water or residue will never smell.
The large station needs floor space and accessible tank clearance. Emptying, washing, and drying also involve noise and time; check independent reviews for observations relevant to your tolerance, since the manufacturer’s feature list does not quantify your household’s experience. The official US store listed an X8 accessories kit at $154.95 and a Buddy Kit at $104.97 when prices were checked around August 16–18, 2026. Individual listings included six dust bags for $49.98, a replacement roller for $33.99, and two one-liter cleaning-solution bottles for $49.98. Prices and stock can change; consult the official accessories page and compare the parts you actually need rather than assuming a bundle is the cheapest option. Actual running cost depends on replacement frequency and household use.
Who should buy it—and who should look elsewhere?
- Consider it if Apple Home integration is a real convenience for you, you have mostly hard floors, and the roller-mop approach matters more than a vacuum-only spec race. Pet owners may value the anti-tangle design, but should still expect to inspect brushes.
- Question the premium if you mainly want basic vacuuming. Matter and the roller system are the features that make the X8 distinctive; without them, a cheaper robot may meet your needs.
- Look elsewhere if you require complete room-level control in Apple Home, a fully cloud-independent appliance, automatic plumbing, minimal consumables, or a small dock. It is also a poor fit if a camera in the home is unacceptable.
- Be cautious with remaining stock if it is imported, refurbished, or sold by an unfamiliar marketplace seller. Confirm the exact regional model, voltage, included Matter setup details, return terms, and warranty coverage before paying.
Ecovacs’ newer models may be more available or offer a better deal, but do not assume they have the same Matter support just because they share a brand or roller-mop branding. The company’s T80 OMNI and X9 PRO OMNI are possible comparison points; verify each model’s current price, station configuration, and smart-home compatibility before substituting one for the X8. A sale listing is not evidence of equivalent Apple Home behavior.

At the time reflected by the current research, Ecovacs’ official US X8 page showed the model as sold out while the company promoted newer products. That is a material part of the buying decision, not a minor footnote. If a reputable seller has remaining stock at a clear discount and backs it with a practical warranty and return policy, the X8 remains an interesting combination of Apple Home/Matter basics and a differentiated roller mop. If it costs as much as a newer flagship, or comes without dependable warranty support, the case weakens sharply.
For Apple Home users, buy it for the combination of useful basic Matter control and hard-floor mopping—not for the expectation that Home will expose the whole Ecovacs app. For everyone else, compare current alternatives on cleaning, station upkeep, availability, and total consumable cost. The X8’s specifications are impressive on paper, but the robot is only a sound purchase when its real-world convenience, support, and price line up with your home.
