The Ecovacs Deebot X8 Pro Omni is most compelling as a hard-floor mop. Its OZMO Roller is rinsed as it cleans, and independent testing found it unusually effective on dried stains. That advantage is meaningful if kitchen spills, footprints, or muddy paw prints are a regular problem. It is less persuasive as an all-purpose flagship: obstacle avoidance is a weak spot in some testing, carpet pet-hair pickup can be middling, and the large dock still needs hands-on care.
Buy it at a substantial discount if hard-floor mopping is your priority and you can keep small objects off the floor. If your home is cluttered, carpet-heavy, or full of low-clearance furniture, compare newer Roborock and Dreame options before paying a premium. ECOVACS U.S. product and campaign pages showed conflicting stock and promotional information in the August 16, 2026 research snapshot, so verify seller, availability, warranty, and checkout price before buying.
At a glance

What the X8 Pro Omni is
The X8 Pro Omni is a premium robot vacuum and mop supplied with an OMNI station. The dock empties the robot’s dust, washes and dries the mop roller, and holds fresh and dirty water. The robot maps rooms, supports room-specific cleaning and boundaries, detects obstacles, and can lift its mop when it detects carpet. The Pro model also includes features such as automatic cleaning-solution dispensing, AI Instant Re-Mop, and video-management capability; feature availability may vary by region, firmware, and app version.

How the self-washing roller mop works
A conventional robot mop usually drags a damp pad across the floor and may return to its dock only periodically to wash it. The X8 Pro’s OZMO Roller instead contacts the floor under pressure while the robot scrapes dirty water and debris from the roller and sprays fresh water back onto it through 16 nozzles. This rinse-and-refresh process happens during the cleaning run. The dock then gives the roller a more thorough wash and dries it with hot air.
ECOVACS advertises up to 200 roller cleaning or rinsing actions per minute, depending on how its product page describes the process. Treat that as a manufacturer specification, not an independent cleaning score. The useful distinction is the design: the roller is refreshed while working, which should reduce the problem of spreading a progressively dirtier pad over the floor. It does not make the system maintenance-free. The robot still collects dirty water, and the owner still has to empty and clean the tank and inspect the washing tray.
Mopping: the reason to consider it
Independent reviews make a strong case for the X8 Pro’s stain removal. RTINGS describes stain cleaning as a standout strength and reports better results than several tested competitors, including the Roborock Qrevo Curv, Dreame X50 Ultra, and Roborock Saros 10R. Tom’s Guide also found it particularly capable on difficult food messes in its household testing, while noting that the dock needs periodic manual cleaning. Vacuum Wars rated its mopping above the average of robots in its test set. Those results use different test methods and should not be read as directly interchangeable scores.

The practical fit is frequent cleaning of sealed, water-safe floors: tile, suitable sealed hardwood, and laminate whose manufacturer permits damp mopping. The roller should be especially useful for dried food residue, footprints, and sticky everyday messes that a light-touch damp pad can struggle with. Its edge-reaching hardware is intended to improve coverage along edges, but no robot can reliably scrub every corner or remove every dried, greasy deposit. A thick or stubborn spill may still need a manual pre-clean, and the robot should not be expected to pick up large amounts of solid debris in a mop-only routine unless the applicable instructions allow it.
Do not mistake hot-water roller washing at the dock for approval to wet-clean every floor. Avoid using the robot on unsealed wood, damaged laminate, vulnerable seams, or any surface whose flooring manufacturer prohibits moisture. Follow ECOVACS’ approved solution guidance; excess or unsuitable detergent can foam and create water-system problems. Even on suitable floors, check for excess moisture or streaking during the first runs and adjust the cleaning settings if needed.
Vacuuming and pet hair
The X8 Pro is a capable vacuum, but its headline suction number is not a substitute for debris testing. The U.S. specification lists a maximum of 18,000 Pa; that is a manufacturer-rated figure, not a standardized measure of how much dirt it picks up on a particular floor.
Tom’s Guide reported these results in its tests: 99.4% of Cheerios and 98.3% of kitty litter picked up from hardwood; 75% of pet hair from hardwood; 90% of Cheerios, 99% of kitty litter, and 70% of pet hair from carpet. Its combined cleaning score was 88.6, with a combined pet-hair score of 72.5. These are that publication’s results under its test conditions, not a guarantee for every carpet, hair type, or home.
There is a useful distinction between anti-tangle and pickup. Vacuum Wars reported a perfect result in its particular long-hair tangle evaluation and praised the ZeroTangle 2.0 brush design. That does not mean the robot removes every strand of pet hair from carpet: Tom’s Guide’s pickup figures were more moderate. If your priority is embedded hair in carpet, compare carpet pickup—not just claims about hair wrapping or brush maintenance.
Carpets, rugs, and mixed floors
The roller lifts when carpet is detected, according to RTINGS, making the X8 Pro suitable in principle for homes that combine hard floors with rugs. Recognition is not infallible in every setting: rug color, pile, transitions, fringe, and other conditions can affect detection. Set carpet behavior and no-mop boundaries carefully, particularly around thick or delicate rugs, and supervise the first few runs.

The robot is about 3.86 inches high (roughly 353 × 351.5 × 98 mm), so measure furniture clearance rather than assuming it will reach beneath low cabinets or sofas. The front sensing arrangement can also affect where it fits. The dock is much larger—about 13.8 × 18.8 × 21.0 inches with its base—and needs room not only to sit but also for tank access and dust-bag changes. ECOVACS’ U.S. product page lists the dimensions; allow practical working clearance beyond the listed footprint.
Navigation and obstacle avoidance
ECOVACS lists dToF navigation, RGBD/AIVI 3D obstacle sensing, and TruEdge 3D edge sensing. Those specifications describe the system, not a promise that the robot will safely handle a cluttered floor. Vacuum Wars found obstacle avoidance weaker than the average of the robots in its comparison. RTINGS also found the Saros 10R a better fit for low-furniture access, while the X8 Pro had the advantage in stain removal and some cleaning categories in its comparison.

If your rooms routinely have small objects on the floor, the inconvenience of rescuing a robot can outweigh its mopping advantage. Tom’s Guide found the app broadly useful for selecting rooms and small areas, but reported that adjusting map walls could be finicky. Mapping and boundaries are helpful tools, not a substitute for checking the map and clearing hazards.
App, controls, and privacy
The app supports mapping, room naming and selection, virtual boundaries, targeted cleaning, and adjustments to cleaning behavior such as water flow, suction, carpet handling, and mop-washing frequency. Exact labels and available controls can change with app version, firmware, region, or station setup, so use the current U.S. app and manual for precise menu directions rather than relying on a fixed path.
YIKO-GPT voice control is another option, but Tom’s Guide found the app more useful for detailed customization. The Pro model’s video-management feature is a separate consideration: if you do not want a camera-equipped appliance in your home, check the current U.S. app controls, permissions, and privacy terms before purchase. The feature list alone does not establish whether a particular remote-view function can be disabled or what account and network permissions it requires.

The OMNI station automates useful chores: dust auto-emptying, roller washing, heated-water mop washing, hot-air drying, fresh- and dirty-water storage, and—on the Pro—automatic solution dispensing. ECOVACS advertises a 150-day maintenance-free mop-washing-tray cycle under specified conditions. That claim concerns the tray cycle; it does not mean the whole robot can be ignored for five months.

These schedules come from the X8/X8 Pro Omni instruction manual. In plain terms, “self-washing” means the robot washes the roller automatically; it does not mean the owner never empties dirty water, removes hair, cleans the tray, replaces parts, or recovers the robot from an obstacle.

If the roller stops washing or the tray retains water
- Stop the cleaning task and remove the roller for inspection.
- Clear hair and debris from the roller ends, scraper, tray, outlets, and drain path.
- Confirm that fresh- and dirty-water tanks are seated correctly and are not overfilled or blocked.
- Restart the station and run a wash cycle.
- Check for an available firmware or app update; if the problem repeats, contact ECOVACS support.
Do not add arbitrary household detergent to resolve foam or odor. Use only the solution and dosage approved for the device. Persistent odor is a sign to clean and dry the relevant parts, not to mask the smell with more cleaner.
Price, stock, and ownership cost
Price information needs a date and a seller. In the August 16, 2026 research snapshot, ECOVACS’ U.S. product page showed the X8 Pro Omni as sold out, while a separate campaign page displayed a $499 promotional signal against $799.99 and a $50-off code. Those pages conflict, and the promotional checkout availability was not confirmed. Historical coverage cited $1,099 as a standard U.S. price after a reduction from launch pricing; that is historical context, not a current quote. Check the live listing, seller, warranty, and return terms before treating any number as available.
As a rough buying framework, around $500 would be unusually compelling for a new, genuine unit with dependable support; $700–$900 can make sense if roller-mop performance is your priority; at roughly $1,100 or more, compare newer flagships closely. These are decision bands, not guaranteed current prices.
Ownership cost includes more than the robot: dust bags, the roller, main and side brushes, filters, approved cleaning solution, water and electricity, and the time spent cleaning the dock or clearing obstacles. ECOVACS U.S. listings in the research snapshot showed an X8 Pro/X8 accessories kit at $154.95, six dust bags at $49.98, a single bag at $24.99, and two one-liter solution bottles at $49.98. Listings and bundle prices change, so check the current official store. An optional automatic refill-and-drain configuration, where available, may reduce tank handling but adds installation needs; its manual describes a 3/8-inch drain pipe for the relevant setup. Confirm regional compatibility and plumbing requirements before planning around it.

Comparisons are model- and test-specific. A newer model’s advertised suction or obstacle system does not automatically make it the better mop, and the X8’s stain advantage does not automatically make it the best whole-home cleaner. Verdict
The Deebot X8 Pro Omni earns consideration because its roller mop addresses a real limitation of pad-style robot mops: it refreshes the cleaning surface while working, and independent tests show standout results on stains. That makes it a strong choice for a hard-floor home where dried spills and regular damp cleaning are more important than flawless obstacle avoidance.

It is not a hands-off appliance in the literal sense. The dock is sizable, routine cleaning and replacement parts remain part of ownership, and the robot should be run on a reasonably cleared floor. Buy it at a meaningful discount from a seller with good support if those compromises fit your home. At full flagship pricing, or for cluttered and carpet-dominant spaces, compare alternatives first.
