Usually, no: furniture and decor used to stage a 100 Day Dream Home reveal do not automatically belong to the homeowners. HGTV guidance quoted in 2024 says homeowners may have the option to purchase staged pieces they like. The show also budgets for some furnishings, but public reporting does not identify exactly which items are included.
What happens to furniture shown in the reveal?
In a February 2024 report, reality blurred quoted HGTV’s FAQ as saying “the homeowners don’t get to keep the furniture and decor that’s shown on TV.” The quoted guidance adds that “if the homeowners love the end look as much as the viewers do, they do have the option to purchase the staged pieces.”
That means viewers should not assume a sofa, dining set, artwork, or decorative accessories seen during the reveal automatically transfer with the home. The reported option to buy is not a guarantee that every item will be available, and the report gives no prices or deadlines.
Are any furnishings included in the project?
There is a show-specific qualification: the same 2024 report says 100 Day Dream Home budgets for some furnishings, including lighting and special projects. It does not spell out which individual pieces count. Public reporting therefore does not establish whether ordinary furniture and decor—such as a couch or placemats—are part of a particular project’s budget or temporary staging.

It is useful to separate two categories, while recognizing that the boundary is not publicly clear:
- Staged furniture and decor: HGTV’s general guidance, as quoted by reality blurred, says these items are not automatically kept; homeowners may have the option to purchase them.
- Some budgeted furnishings: the report identifies lighting and special projects as examples, but does not provide an itemized list or establish that every home receives the same inclusions.
Are they contestants?
Not in the usual contest sense. HGTV describes Brian and Mika Kleinschmidt as helping clients build dream homes in 100 days on its series page. “Homeowners” or “clients” is more accurate than “contestants”: the question is what stays with a custom home after the reveal, not what a competition winner receives.

What can a homeowner confirm about a specific item?
The public guidance does not settle ownership item by item. For a particular home, the reliable answer would come from the project’s own agreement or a direct confirmation from the people managing the build and furnishing. Ask which reveal pieces are included in the project budget, which are staging, and whether any staged item can be purchased. No episode-specific inventory or agreement is established in the available reporting.
What staging does—and does not—prove
Staging is common across HGTV renovation programming: House Digest reported former HGTV senior vice president of production and development Betsy Ayala saying, “Most if not all of our flipping shows are staged.” That supports the broader context, but it is not a promise about every object in every 100 Day Dream Home reveal.
