DJI’s ROMO is a real premium robot-vacuum family, not just a China-only concept: after its August 2025 debut in China, official DJI Store listings showed models for sale in several other markets by August 2026. Its distinguishing ideas are binocular vision paired with solid-state LiDAR, extendable edge-cleaning arms and an automated cleaning dock. Those features make ROMO an ambitious entrant, but DJI’s performance figures are manufacturer claims—not proof that it beats established rivals in real homes. US retail availability was not verified.
What is DJI ROMO?
ROMO is DJI’s robot-vacuum family, launched in China in August 2025 as the S, A and P models. DJI brought experience in computer vision, mapping and obstacle sensing to a floor-cleaning robot. “Drone tech” describes that engineering lineage; ROMO is not a flying-drone system transplanted into a vacuum. The launch lineup and China-market debut were reported by HotHardware on August 7, 2025.
It is no longer accurate to describe the family as China-only. By August 2026, official DJI Store listings were present in several markets, including the UK, Australia and New Zealand, with additional regional presence indicated by DJI’s ROMO regional site. Availability, configuration, price and support still depend on country. A US region selector is not evidence of a US retail offer: a US price, checkout and local warranty were not established in the sources cited here.

How ROMO’s sensing works—and what “drone tech” means
DJI describes a system combining binocular fisheye vision sensors and wide-angle solid-state LiDAR. Launch coverage specified three wide-angle solid-state laser-radar units alongside binocular fisheye vision. Together, these sensors are intended to help the robot map rooms and recognize obstacles, including thin objects such as cables. This is a vision-and-ranging approach, not a claim that ROMO uses drone flight hardware. DJI’s official product listing gives the current product description and qualifications.

Many premium robot vacuums use a raised rotating LiDAR turret, cameras, structured light, or combinations of sensors. ROMO emphasizes a lower-profile arrangement rather than a conventional turret. The practical promise is improved recognition of awkward or thin objects and navigation closer to edges. Whether it delivers depends on performance across real homes—not just the sensor list.
DJI’s own qualifications matter: effective obstacle sensing assumes suitable surface reflectivity and texture and ambient light of at least 0.1 lux; mirrored or highly reflective surfaces may reduce performance. Low light, dark flooring, transparent objects and changing illumination are therefore relevant purchase considerations.
ROMO S, A and P: what changes between models?
The main visible distinction is the housing and, on the P, a floor-deodorizer compartment. DJI’s regional product comparison identifies the lineup; regional versions and included accessories should be checked on the exact store page before ordering.

The regional listing that displayed AUD prices was the DJI Store ROMO P water-tank page; the UK figures were on the UK DJI Store listing. The UK figures are not directly comparable as a model-value ranking: two were marked as sale prices, and local promotions can change. Transparent housings also make dust, fingerprints and water marks more visible.
Check whether the exact listing is a water-tank version and what is included in that market. Do not assume that a model name guarantees an identical accessory bundle, app feature set or service arrangement worldwide.
What the robot and dock are designed to do
Vacuuming and edge cleaning
DJI rates ROMO at up to 25,000 Pa suction and equips it with dual anti-tangle roller brushes. These are manufacturer specifications, not an independent measure of pickup on carpet or hard floors. The two extendable arms are cleaning-edge extensions: DJI says adaptive algorithms guide them to reach corners and edges around walls, table legs and sofa legs. They are not manipulation arms that retrieve socks, move furniture or clear objects from the floor.

Mopping and dock automation
ROMO supports Vacuum & Mop, Vacuum, Mop and Vacuum Then Mop modes, with a 164 mL onboard tank. The dock is designed to collect dust, wash the mops, manage water, clean its washboard with high-pressure water jets and dry components. DJI also supports cleaning solution; the P adds a floor-deodorizer compartment. Official instructions recommend DJI’s solution for performance and corrosion prevention, so check local availability and recurring cost before buying.

DJI claims up to 200 days before washboard maintenance under its stated conditions. That refers to the base-station washboard, not 200 days without owner attention. It does not eliminate water refills, wastewater management, consumable replacement or checks for hair, residue, blockages and dirty components. Call the system low-intervention, not maintenance-free.
App and remote features
The DJI Home app supports custom cleaning plans through its Cleaning Task function, and DJI says owners can use remote video and voice calls. Treat camera, microphone, account and cloud connectivity as privacy-sensitive: check permissions and settings, whether remote viewing is enabled, applicable data practices and regional feature availability before enabling them. The cited material does not establish that all data stays on the robot or that every function is available in every country.

How to read DJI’s performance claims
The figures below are DJI specifications or controlled-test examples, not independent results. Test outcomes in an actual home can change with settings, layout, floor type, lighting and maintenance.

All figures in this table are drawn from DJI’s official ROMO product information. For a meaningful independent assessment, testing would need to cover cables on dark floors, clear objects, socks and toys, pet bowls, low furniture, rugs and thresholds, mirrors and glossy floors, nighttime operation, hair pickup and edge coverage. No independent head-to-head results are established by the cited sources.
Availability, prices and buying checks
The initial China launch report gave a starting price of approximately CNY 4,699 (about US$650 at the time) in August 2025. That is a historical launch-market figure, not a current international price. By August 2026, official listings showed ROMO in multiple regions. The AUD and UK listing figures appear in the model table; they should not be converted into a claimed US price or treated as a current quote for another country. The Australia DJI Store listing is another regional product page.

Before buying locally or importing, confirm the exact configuration, delivery, warranty and service eligibility, plug, app region, network behavior and language. Also check shipping and local stock for dust bags, filters, brushes, mop pads, cleaning solution and, for the P, deodorizer. Imported units can complicate warranty service and consumable sourcing.
Software updates and region-specific features
DJI’s April 13, 2026 release notes document firmware V01.00.15.00 and iOS and Android app version 1.5.16. Listed additions included custom room naming, a security passcode, additional security-protection settings and bug fixes. The same notes list voice control for custom cleaning tasks as available only in mainland China. Earlier updates included dust-box drying after vacuum-only tasks, network diagnosis, low-clearance cleaning strategies, virtual walls, extra-low water flow, carpet-detection improvements, positioning improvements and cross-region network-access settings. These notes show ongoing software development, but a feature in release notes is not proof it is active on every regional unit or firmware.

- Dark or reflective floors: low light and mirrored or highly reflective surfaces can impair vision-based sensing.
- Cables and small objects: DJI’s 2 mm figure does not establish reliable detection of every color, shape or transparent object. Pick up valuables and hazards rather than relying on avoidance.
- Pet waste: claimed avoidance is a useful safeguard, not a substitute for checking the floor before a run.
- Wet spills: DJI says ROMO and its base are not water-resistant. Do not send it through standing water or expose it to unintended liquids.
- Low furniture and rugs: firmware includes low-clearance strategies, but entrapment still depends on furniture geometry and transitions.
- Dock and mop upkeep: automated washing and drying reduce work but cannot rule out odor, residue, dirty tanks or maintenance of brushes, wheels, sensors and mop parts.
- Camera privacy: remote video and calls involve camera and microphone functions; review access and privacy settings before use.
Is ROMO worth considering?
ROMO makes the most sense for a buyer who wants a highly automated dock, is interested in DJI’s vision-and-LiDAR approach, and values edge-cleaning arms or the transparent design. The S is the straightforward choice if styling is secondary; the A is for a transparent robot with a conventional-looking white base; the P is for buyers who want the transparent flagship dock and deodorizer feature. A’s value depends particularly on its local price relative to P.
It is harder to recommend on specifications alone. ROMO is priced as a premium system, its strongest navigation and cleaning claims remain manufacturer claims in the cited material, and the dock adds footprint and recurring consumables. Buyers prioritizing proven real-home performance should wait for independent testing in conditions like their own. In the US, establish a local purchase route and warranty before treating ROMO as an available option; the sources cited here do not verify US retail checkout or support.
