Yes. Philips Hue says the Secure wired video doorbell can turn selected Hue lights on when its camera detects motion. A button press is a separate event: it can make selected lights blink using Hue’s light-chime feature. For the fullest Hue-light integration, Philips recommends using a Hue Bridge.
Before buying, check two installation constraints: the doorbell needs wired power from a 12–24 VAC transformer rated at least 10 VA, and it will not work with an existing doorbell chime. The transformer is not included.
What happens when someone approaches or presses the button?

For example, you could have the porch light come on when motion is detected, an interior lamp blink when the button is pressed, and a Smart Chime sound inside. Hue confirms the motion-lighting and light-chiming capabilities on its wired video doorbell page and Smart Chime page.

If the main reason you are buying the doorbell is to make your Hue lights respond, plan on using a Bridge and Hue lights in the same Hue environment. Exact compatible light models and app controls are not fully specified in the product support material, so check your setup in the current app rather than assuming every third-party or Matter-compatible bulb behaves identically.

What hardware and wiring do you need?
- Doorbell: the Hue Secure wired video doorbell.
- Power: existing low-voltage doorbell wiring supplied by a 12–24 VAC transformer rated at least 10 VA. The transformer is sold separately.
- Lights: Hue lights if you want lighting reactions.
- Bridge: recommended for the fuller Hue-light integration.
- Audible alert: a Hue Smart Chime if you want sound indoors. Hue says multiple chimes are supported, with up to 12 listed for a Bridge setup and up to 50 for Bridge Pro.
The doorbell is permanently wired and has no battery backup. Philips Hue advises switching off the circuit breaker before electrical work and recommends a qualified electrician if you are not comfortable with installation. Do not proceed until the transformer output and rating are confirmed.
How do you add the doorbell in the Hue app?
- Open the Philips Hue app and go to the Home tab.
- Tap the three-dot menu and choose Add devices. Alternatively, open Settings > Devices and tap the blue plus button.
- Scan the QR code on the doorbell’s ownership card and select the secure wired video doorbell.
- Save the passphrase and ownership card securely, then follow the app’s remaining setup instructions.
- If you want an audible alert, add the Smart Chime separately and place it within the manufacturer’s stated range.
For setup without a Bridge, follow Hue’s separate no-Bridge instructions: when the app asks about adding a Bridge, select No, scan the doorbell QR code, and continue through the prompts. After installation, use the doorbell’s security settings in the Hue app to choose available lights and response behavior. The exact lighting menu labels can vary by app version and configuration; Hue’s published support instructions do not establish a fixed click-by-click path for this part.
Is a Secure subscription required to turn on lights?
Philips Hue does not present a Secure subscription as a prerequisite for basic light-triggering. The subscription chiefly changes video history and advanced security functions. Hue’s US plan comparison lists these features:

These are the prices shown on Hue’s US subscription-plan page; Hue says plan prices are accessed through the app and may be subject to app-store billing conditions. Some security features also require a Bridge, Philips Hue lights, or Bridge Pro. AI identification of people, animals, vehicles, or packages is a paid-plan feature; it is not the same thing as basic motion detection used to trigger lights.
What does the camera provide?
Philips Hue’s US specifications list 2K QHD video at 1984 × 1984, a 1:1 image ratio, a field of view greater than 180 degrees, color night vision and infrared night visibility, two-way audio, and IP54 weather resistance. Connectivity listed includes 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Zigbee. The Hue app requirements listed are Android 10 or later and iOS 16 or later. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent test measurements. Hue’s product page gives the current specification details.
Do not confuse the doorbell’s own motion sensor with MotionAware. MotionAware is a separate feature associated with Hue Bridge Pro that uses Hue lights as motion-aware sensors; the doorbell can detect motion independently.

Motion is detected, but the lights stay off
- Confirm the doorbell and lights are associated with the same Hue home or Bridge, and that the Bridge is online.
- Check that the selected lights have power and have not been switched off at the wall.
- Check that motion detection and the intended lighting response are enabled in the app.
- Review any schedules, detection zones, or sensitivity settings that could suppress or narrow events. Menu names and availability vary by configuration.
Hue describes customizable detection areas, sensitivity, and time slots in its features overview; their availability can depend on the product and plan.

Lights activate too often
Sidewalk traffic, vehicles, pets, foliage, or changing shadows may generate motion events. If the app offers the controls for your setup, narrow the detection area or adjust sensitivity rather than expecting AI person identification to be part of basic motion lighting.
The doorbell works, but there is no sound
The existing wired chime is not compatible. Add a Hue Smart Chime and check that it is not muted and is within the recommended range.
Video works, but Hue lighting does not
This can point to a no-Bridge setup or an incomplete Hue integration. Hue specifically recommends a Bridge for motion-triggered light activation and button-press light flashing. Check the Bridge connection and that the lights are available in the same Hue environment.

Installation cannot be completed
Verify that the transformer supplies 12–24 VAC and at least 10 VA. If wiring is damaged, inaccessible, or uncertain, stop and consult a qualified electrician. Hue confirms the voltage and transformer requirement on its doorbell specifications page.
Who is this doorbell a good fit for?
It is most compelling for a household that already uses Hue lights, has suitable wired power, and wants motion at the entrance to serve both security and lighting. The bundle is the more straightforward choice if an audible indoor chime matters. Be cautious if you rent, lack compatible wiring, rely on an existing chime, need battery operation, or expect longer video retention and advanced detection without a recurring plan. Hue’s cited material describes cloud video history and encryption but does not establish a local-storage option.
