Yes—but mainly for concept design, layout testing, and visual communication. Live Home 3D for Android can model an entire house, furnish rooms, add exterior features and simplified terrain, and produce 2D plans, 3D views, elevations, panoramas, and walkthroughs. It cannot replace an architect, structural engineer, surveyor, builder, or local building-control process.
That makes it a useful early-stage tool for homeowners planning a new build or major renovation: you can explore how the house might work before paying for detailed professional drawings.
What Live Home 3D can do for a new-home project
The Android app is more than a room-decoration tool. The developer says it can create floor plans, full-house models, exterior designs, terrain, landscaping, 3D views, elevations, panoramas, and fly-through videos. You can switch between a 2D plan and a 3D model as you develop the design.

- The overall building footprint and room arrangement.
- Connections between the entrance, kitchen, living areas, bedrooms, bathrooms, garage, patio, and garden.
- Door swings, window positions, furniture clearances, and sightlines.
- Roof forms, stairs, columns, beams, niches, and other visual building elements.
- Patios, paths, pools, gardens, hills, depressions, and other simplified landscape features.
These are representations based on the information you enter. They are not automatically verified construction drawings.
From floor plan to 3D model
You can begin with a blank project, use a template, or import and trace a reference plan or image where the relevant import tools support it. An imported image must still be scaled against known dimensions; a photograph or estate-agent plan is not reliable construction data by itself.
A sensible design sequence is:
- Draw the exterior footprint. Establish the approximate length, width, and number of floors.
- Divide the house into rooms. Set out circulation, storage, stairs, and service areas before decorating.
- Add doors and windows. Check opening positions and door swings against the proposed furniture.
- Place kitchens, bathrooms, and appliances. Use real dimensions where possible.
- Furnish the rooms. Test whether the layout works at human scale.
- Inspect the model in 3D. Look for blocked paths, awkward views, crowded rooms, and poorly placed openings.
- Refine materials, lighting, elevations, roof forms, and landscaping.
The value of moving repeatedly between 2D and 3D is that each view reveals different problems. A flat plan may appear efficient while the 3D view shows that a sofa blocks a window, a tall cabinet interferes with a door, or a corridor consumes more visual space than expected.

Furniture and appliances
The Android product page advertises a library of more than 2,400 furnishings, appliances, decorative items, and other objects: Live Home 3D for Android. The app also supports importing your own 3D objects and accessing additional models through Trimble 3D Warehouse.
Use these objects primarily for scale and layout. A generic kitchen unit or sofa may look like a product you intend to buy, but confirm the manufacturer, model, dimensions, availability, and installation requirements separately. Catalog inclusion does not guarantee current retail availability or manufacturer endorsement.
Elevations, finishes, and lighting
The 2D elevation view can help arrange and export visual details on walls and roofs, including openings, niches, and wall panels. The Material Editor and Light Editor allow you to compare textures, roughness, metalness, light position, attenuation, and colour. The Android elevation documentation explains this part of the workspace.
That is useful for comparing kitchen finishes, bathroom layouts, wall treatments, cabinet colours, and lighting moods. It does not create electrical plans, lighting-load calculations, plumbing drawings, or verified material schedules.

Roofs and custom elements
Pro features add custom roofs and advanced building tools. The Building Block tool can represent custom objects such as stairs, columns, beams, and furnishings. This can make a multi-storey or unusual house easier to communicate visually.
It should not be confused with structural design. A modelled beam is not evidence that the beam is correctly sized or supported, and a custom roof does not validate wind, snow, seismic, connection, or local code requirements.
Terrain and exterior design
The developer describes tools for modelling surrounding territory, including terrain elevations, depressions, cutouts, pathways, pools, hills, mountains, and lakes. That makes the app useful for exploring the relationship between the proposed house and its garden or access routes.
Use this as a simplified site concept. A proper survey, drainage design, site-level information, boundary information, and planning constraints still need to come from appropriate professionals and authorities.

A practical Android workflow for a new home
1. Check the device first
The current Android product page lists Android 10 or newer, at least 4 GB of RAM, and at least 2 GB of available storage. The support information shows a conflicting 3.5 GB RAM figure, so the safer working assumption is the more conservative 4 GB requirement: official product page and official support.
A tablet is generally the better choice for drawing walls and manipulating a large model. A phone can work for reviewing, making small changes, and presenting the design, but detailed editing becomes less comfortable on a small screen. Keep more than the stated storage minimum if you will import models or export large images and videos.
2. Gather reliable information
Before drawing, collect the site dimensions, survey or plot plan, required setbacks, desired external dimensions, room list, approximate room sizes, ceiling heights, door and window preferences, appliance dimensions, and requirements for garages, porches, decks, utilities, and stairs.

3. Validate the 2D plan
Check room dimensions, hallway widths, furniture clearances, kitchen work zones, bathroom spacing, storage access, stair locations, window positions, and routes to exits. Also consider vehicle and pedestrian access outside.
4. Review the house in 3D
Walk through the entrance, living spaces, kitchen, bedrooms, bathrooms, and important exterior views. Check whether furniture crowds the rooms, windows are hidden behind tall items, rooms feel dark, or long corridors and poor sightlines undermine the layout.
5. Compare alternatives
Create versions of the design with different kitchen arrangements, window positions, furniture layouts, exterior finishes, bathroom fixtures, roof forms, or landscape choices. Reviewing alternatives is often more valuable than perfecting one attractive render too early.
6. Export a review package
A useful package for discussion might include a labelled floor plan, key elevations, several 3D stills, a walkthrough video, a panorama, and—where compatible—a 3D model. Android project sharing uses the .lhzd zipped archive format according to the support information. Test the exact Android-to-desktop or Android-to-professional workflow before relying on it for collaboration: platform versions and licences are separate.

The free edition is a sensible starting point, but the support page says that after another project is opened or created, access to earlier projects is restricted. Export or back up important work before starting a new concept.
The developer’s store comparison lists published limits of up to 2,048 × 1,536 for Free and Standard still images, compared with up to 16,384 × 16,384 for Pro. Published video limits are up to 1,280 × 720 for Free and Standard and up to 3,840 × 2,160 for Pro. Pro panorama output is listed up to 8,192 × 4,096. These are developer-published limits, not independent performance tests, and actual export behaviour can depend on the edition, project, device, and current version: feature comparison and store.

Do not treat a Live Home 3D project as a permit-ready construction set. The reviewed first-party material describes modelling, visualisation, and export capabilities; it does not establish that the Android app performs:
- Structural calculations or foundation engineering.
- Land surveying, soil analysis, verified site grading, or drainage design.
- HVAC sizing or energy-code analysis.
- Electrical-load calculations or plumbing engineering.
- Fire, accessibility, planning, or building-code verification.
- Legally valid permit documentation.
- Guaranteed construction quantities or accurate purchasing takeoffs.
Use the app to explore and communicate the design, then have an architect, designer, engineer, surveyor, builder, and relevant building department verify the parts within their responsibilities. Local requirements vary by country, state, municipality, site, and project type.
Common problems and how to avoid them
The model looks right but the dimensions are wrong
Start with known measurements, scale imported images, use actual furniture dimensions, and recheck wall lengths and room areas after major changes. A polished 3D model can still be based on bad input.
The phone becomes difficult to use
Move detailed editing to a tablet, work in stages, and hide or remove decorative objects until the layout is settled. Highly detailed imported models can make a project harder to manage.
Exports are smaller or marked unexpectedly
Check the current edition comparison, test an export early, and confirm the recipient’s required file format. Higher-resolution output is tied to the relevant paid tier and may be demanding for mobile hardware.

Desktop collaboration does not work as expected
Confirm that the recipient can open the project or exported model, and test the .lhzd sharing workflow first. Buying the Android version does not automatically provide licences for Windows, Mac, or Apple platforms.

Alternatives by use case
Planner 5D may suit readers who prioritise web and cross-device access, floor-plan upload, catalogues, budgeting, and higher-end rendering. Its plans and pricing are listed at Planner 5D pricing.
RoomSketcher is worth considering when floor-plan presentation, measurements, print-to-scale output, 3D photos, 360 views, and cloud-stored projects matter most. Its pricing and credit system are described at RoomSketcher pricing.
Homestyler may be a better fit for décor concepts, AI-assisted design, community features, and a large library of models and materials. Premium renders and assets can involve memberships or credits; see its pricing page.
None of these alternatives should automatically be assumed to provide structural design, code checking, or permit documentation. Compare them according to the output and workflow you actually need.
Verdict
Live Home 3D for Android is a capable choice for developing a new-home concept. It can take you from a rough footprint to a furnished whole-house model with exterior and landscape ideas, elevations, visual finishes, panoramas, and walkthroughs.
It is most valuable before construction documentation: use it to test layouts, expose design problems, compare options, and give professionals a clearer brief. Start with Free, choose Standard if you need several cleanly exported alternatives, and choose Pro only when custom building elements or higher-resolution output justify it. Before any building work begins, transfer the concept to qualified professionals for survey, structural, regulatory, and construction review.
