The Bose Bass Module 500 is a compact wireless subwoofer for selected Bose soundbars—not a universal subwoofer for an AV receiver or another brand’s system. It can add welcome weight to TV, films, and music, but its chief strengths are compact size and convenient Bose integration, not maximum bass depth or output. At the U.S. Bose listing price of $549 checked on August 18, 2026, it makes the most sense as an upgrade for an existing compatible Bose owner.
This is the Bass Module 500, not the Bose Home Speaker 500 or either the Bose Soundbar 500 or Smart Soundbar 500. Those are separate products; compatibility depends on the exact model.

Verdict: Buy it if you want an easy, discreet bass upgrade for a supported Bose soundbar. If deep, forceful bass, high playback levels, or flexibility with other equipment matters most, look at the Bass Module 700 or a conventional powered subwoofer instead.
What the Bass Module 500 adds
A soundbar can handle dialogue and much of a film’s soundtrack while lacking the low-frequency weight that makes engines, impacts, musical swells, and other effects feel substantial. The Bass Module 500 is intended to fill that gap in a compatible Bose system. That distinction matters: more bass than a soundbar does not necessarily mean deep sub-bass or room-shaking output. The module can lend voices, instruments, and effects more body, and make movies feel more involving. It is not a safe choice for someone who expects extreme low-frequency extension or wants to play bass-heavy material loudly in a large open room.
Films and television
For TV and film, the most plausible benefit is extra presence in soundtrack cues such as rumbles, engines, and impacts. The result depends on the soundbar, source material, volume, placement, room, and seating position. Expect a more substantial presentation than the soundbar alone, not a guaranteed cinematic effect in every room.
Music and games
Added low-end weight can make vocals, acoustic instruments, jazz, and rock sound less thin when a soundbar is working by itself. Music with sustained, very deep bass—such as some electronic, hip-hop, and modern pop—may make the module’s limits more apparent, especially at higher levels. These are not fixed genre outcomes: recording, room acoustics, level, and personal preference all affect what you hear. Games can benefit from the same added weight in effects, but the module does not change the system’s compatibility limits.

Those are marketing claims, not measurements. Bose’s public listing and owner’s guide do not provide the amplifier-power, frequency-response, maximum-SPL, or distortion data needed to verify precise performance claims. Because third-party specifications conflict, claims about exact driver size, wattage, enclosure design, or low-frequency cutoff should be treated cautiously rather than repeated as established facts.
Size, specifications, and price
The module measures 9.5 inches high × 10 inches wide × 10 inches deep and weighs 11.53 pounds, according to Bose. It is a roughly 10-inch cube, so it is easier to fit beside furniture than a larger subwoofer. The listed contents include the module and a power cord. Its owner’s guide specifies a 100–240 V, 50/60 Hz power input with a 55 W rating; that is an input rating, not an advertised amplifier-output figure.

The U.S. Bose store listed it at $549 when checked on August 18, 2026. Prices and availability can change, and this is a U.S. price—not a global one. At that level, judge the cost in context: it is an add-on for an existing Bose setup, and a new buyer must also budget for a compatible soundbar. Compare the price of the complete Bose system with complete soundbar systems and conventional soundbar-plus-subwoofer options, rather than treating the module as a standalone speaker purchase.
Compatibility: the key buying check
“Wireless” here means integration with supported Bose equipment, not Bluetooth or universal Wi-Fi pairing. Bose’s compatibility listing includes these models:
- Bose Smart Ultra Soundbar
- Bose Smart Soundbar 600
- Bose Smart Soundbar 900
- Bose Smart Soundbar 300
- Bose Smart Soundbar 700
- Bose Soundbar 500
- SoundTouch 300 Soundbar

Check Bose’s current compatibility information before buying, particularly if your product name includes “500.” The module is not compatible with the Bose Smart Speaker 500 or SoundTouch 10, and Bose specifically excludes the Lifestyle Ultra Soundbar. It is not designed to connect directly to an AV receiver, a conventional stereo amplifier, or an arbitrary third-party soundbar through an LFE/RCA input.
Setup and connection
For a supported smart soundbar, the usual wireless setup is straightforward:
- Put the module on a stable, level floor surface and connect its power cord to an outlet.
- Open the Bose Music app and follow its instructions to add or connect the bass module to the compatible soundbar.
- Play familiar content and adjust the bass level to taste from the main listening position.
- Run ADAPTiQ calibration if your soundbar supports that process and its required equipment is available. Calibration support and steps vary by soundbar.
The Bose owner’s guide also describes wired connections for selected compatible products, using the appropriate Bose connection cable or 3.5-mm audio cable as applicable. The Bose TV Speaker requires a wired connection. Do not assume one connection method applies to every supported soundbar: check the instructions for your exact model and use the correct bass output or connector.

Bose says automatic security updates require completing setup in the Bose app and connecting the product to the internet. If app-based setup is part of the appeal, ensure you can complete that process.

Bose recommends placing the module on the floor, on a stable, level surface, along the same wall as the TV and soundbar. Keep other wireless equipment about 1–3 feet away to reduce the chance of interference. Avoid metal cabinets, nearby audio/video components, and direct heat sources. On marble, glass, or highly polished wood, vibration may make the module move, so check that it remains stable.
Placement changes perceived bass. A spot closer to a wall or corner can make bass stronger; that can also make it sound boomy. Moving the module away from boundaries can reduce excess bass, but may make it seem weaker. Start near the soundbar, then listen from the usual seat with familiar content and try alternate locations if the balance is off. The best position is the one that works at the listening position—not necessarily the least visible spot. Room openings, construction, furniture, and seating can all affect the result, so there is no defensible universal room-size cutoff.
Bass Module 500 versus Bass Module 700
The 500 is the compact option for buyers who value a smaller footprint and moderate bass in an existing Bose system. The 700 is the in-ecosystem upgrade to consider if you have a larger room, watch action-heavy films at higher levels, or want more authoritative bass. Bose’s public Bass Module 500 page does not supply comparable detailed acoustic measurements, so avoid treating unsupported wattage or frequency figures as proof of a precise performance gap. The practical choice is about priorities: discreet convenience or greater bass ambition.
- Choose the 500 for a small or medium room, limited placement space, and moderate listening where seamless Bose integration matters most.
- Investigate the 700 if the 500’s compact approach seems too conservative for your room or preferences; check current pricing and compatibility before choosing.
- Choose a conventional powered subwoofer system if you prioritize output per dollar, deeper bass, or use with a receiver and can accommodate wiring and setup.
Who should buy it—and who should not
Buy the Bass Module 500 if you already have a compatible Bose soundbar, want more weight than its built-in bass can provide, have limited space, and prefer simple Bose-app integration to managing a separate wired system. It is particularly plausible for modest-volume listening in a smaller room.

Skip it if you do not own a compatible Bose product, need a standard LFE/RCA connection, want the strongest possible low bass for the money, or listen loudly in a large or open-plan room. It is also a less obvious purchase if $549 plus the cost of a soundbar approaches the price of a complete system better suited to your needs.
For a Bose owner, the trade-off is easy integration and a compact form in exchange for ecosystem lock-in and limited published performance data. For a new buyer, compare complete systems before committing. A wired subwoofer may provide more output and flexibility for the money, but requires the right system connections, cable routing, and more setup. A Sonos Sub or Sub Mini is relevant only if you are considering or already own compatible Sonos equipment; it is not an alternative that pairs with the Bose module or soundbar.
Troubleshooting common problems
No sound from the module
- Confirm the module is plugged in and the soundbar is powered.
- Verify the exact soundbar is on Bose’s supported list.
- For wireless use, repeat the Bose Music app connection process.
- For wired use, confirm the cable is connected to the correct bass output and that your soundbar supports that method. The TV Speaker is wired-only; follow its specific instructions.
- Try another source and check the soundbar’s bass-level settings before concluding the module has failed.
Bass sounds boomy or weak
- If it is boomy, move the module away from a corner or wall and reduce the bass level.
- If it is weak, try a position closer to a wall or corner and check from the main seat; room placement can create a weak-sounding listening position.
- Run ADAPTiQ if your soundbar supports it, then reassess the level and placement.
- Do not assume turning up the bass setting fixes an unsuitable location.
Wireless connection drops
Move nearby wireless equipment farther away—Bose recommends about 1–3 feet of separation—and avoid placing the module inside or directly beside metal furniture. If your soundbar supports a wired connection and wireless interference persists, wired operation may be a practical workaround.
Reconnect or reset
According to the owner’s guide, pressing the button on the rear of the module resets the wireless connection; successful reconnection is indicated by a tone and a white status light. For a factory reset, press and hold the rear button until the status light blinks white. When the reset completes, the light blinks amber, and the module must be connected again. The Bose Bass Module 500 is a compact, convenient way to make a compatible Bose soundbar sound fuller and more impactful.
