For most homes, the Hampton Bay two-pack is the lowest-cost way to add a warm accent glow; choose Deck Impressions if you want more light from each fixture, or Harbor Breeze if a clamp-style hanger matters most. None of these small solar gutter lights is a substitute for a motion-activated floodlight. Fit, sun exposure, and realistic expectations about brightness matter more than a headline lumen number.

These compact fixtures combine a solar panel, rechargeable battery, LED, photosensor, and a clip or bracket. They charge in daylight and typically switch on automatically when it gets dark. The shortlist below is based on the listed specifications; it is not a controlled brightness or durability test.

Prices are retailer listings observed on August 16, 2026, not guaranteed current prices. The generic multi-packs cost substantially more than established two-packs while providing less complete output, battery, and warranty information. A larger pack is not automatically a better buy: compare cost per fixture, the coverage you actually need, and whether the mounting range is documented.

Important specification caveat: the product title says 20 lumens, while the listing highlights say 10 lumens. Treat its output as uncertain unless the current listing or packaging clarifies the discrepancy. At either figure, it is for accent or close-range orientation, not security coverage. The eight-hour figure is an advertised maximum, not a guarantee in shade or winter.
Best brighter option: Deck Impressions 50-lumen two-pack
See Deck Impressions at The Home Depot. It is listed at 50 lumens per fixture, 3000K warm white, and up to eight hours of illumination. The product is described for gutters, fascia boards, fences, and rails. Of the reviewed choices, this is the clearest pick when you want a more noticeable wash on a wall, planting bed, or porch edge.

Confirm the bracket can attach securely at your intended location and remember that beam shape, height, spacing, and sunlight affect what the light looks like on the ground.
Best clamp-style hanger: Harbor Breeze two-pack
See Harbor Breeze at Lowe’s. Its 10-lumen output and approximately 3500K color temperature suit a modest glow rather than a bright path wash. The clamp or thumb-screw style can be useful where you want a hanger rather than a permanent screw installation, including some renter situations.

Lowe’s lists replacement batteries as sold separately and an IPX splash-resistance designation, not a complete waterproof/IP rating. Verify fit against your gutter lip and check the current listing for price and exact installation details. A clamp is not automatically compatible with every gutter profile.
Best claimed wide beam and flexible mounting: generic 12-LED four-pack
See the 12-LED four-pack at The Home Depot. The listing claims a 120-degree beam, a built-in 1,800mAh battery, automatic dusk-to-dawn operation, and multiple clip or screw mounting methods. It gives unusually specific clip ranges: one clip for gutters under 0.2 inch and an adjustable clip for 0.2 to 0.82 inch.

Output is not clearly specified, and the observed $117 price is unattractive compared with buying several lower-cost two-packs. Consider it only if the mounting approach and quantity solve a particular installation problem.
Best dark-trim alternative: Hampton Bay black two-pack

The retrieved listing provides less complete output, color-temperature, and runtime detail than the white version, so verify those specifications and do not assume the white model’s claims apply to it.

How to choose the right solar gutter light
Start with the job, not the product label
- Accent glow: Around 10 lumens can mark an edge or add a small pool of light close to the fixture.
- Close-range orientation: Around 20 lumens may be more visible for a small path or entry area, but do not assume the Hampton Bay white model is definitively 20 lumens given its conflicting listing.
- More noticeable wash: A 50-lumen fixture is a better starting point for illuminating a nearby wall, path, or planting bed.
- Larger areas or security: A gutter light’s lumen figure alone cannot promise useful coverage. For dependable security lighting, use a purpose-designed motion light or hardwired exterior fixture instead.
Check whether a lumen number is per fixture or per pack. Also consider beam angle and lens: a narrow beam may look intense at one spot, while a wide beam spreads light across a larger area. Mounting height and spacing can create dark gaps even with higher-output lights.
Choose a color that suits the house
Warm white around 2700K–3000K tends to look softer on residential trim, patios, and landscaping. Neutral or cooler light around 3500K and above may look crisper but can feel harsher. The Hampton Bay white and Deck Impressions listings specify 3000K; Harbor Breeze lists about 3500K. If you are installing a row, use matching fixtures and color temperatures for a more even appearance.
Measure the gutter before ordering
“Gutter compatible” does not mean “fits every gutter.” K-style and half-round profiles, as well as aluminum, steel, and vinyl gutters, can have different front-lip shapes and thicknesses. A clip sized for a thin edge may not seat on a rolled or reinforced lip. Leaf guards and raised gutter-guard profiles can also block a clamp.
- Measure the thickness and shape of the front edge where the fixture will attach.
- Check whether the light clips to the gutter lip, screws to fascia behind it, or supports both.
- Compare your measurement with the manufacturer’s stated clip range and installation diagram.
- Do not force an incompatible clamp or overtighten it against thin vinyl or aluminum.
- Use a fascia, fence, or deck mount only if the instructions approve it; ask permission before drilling into a rental property.

Prioritize a sunny panel position
A convenient gutter location may be a poor charging location. Roof overhangs, trees, neighboring buildings, and seasonal shadows reduce sunlight reaching the panel. A lower-output fixture in direct sun can work better at night than a brighter one tucked beneath deep eaves. Check the path of sun across the mounting spot, especially in winter, and consult the product’s placement guidance. Interpret runtime and weather claims cautiously
“Up to eight hours” describes a favorable-condition claim, not dependable year-round performance. Cloudy or rainy days, winter’s short days and low sun angle, a dirty panel, an aging battery, and partial shade can all shorten nighttime operation. Bright porch or street lights may confuse the photosensor and keep a light from switching on when expected.
Weather resistant, waterproof, and an IP/IPX rating are not interchangeable. Hampton Bay listings describe weather-resistant construction; Harbor Breeze shows an IPX splash-resistance designation rather than a complete rating. Generic listings may use “waterproof” wording without enough supporting detail to compare protection. Review the exact model’s documentation, battery-door seals, and warranty rather than relying on a headline claim.
Check the battery and warranty details
Some models allow battery replacement; others may be difficult or uneconomic to repair when their rechargeable cell degrades. Use only the battery chemistry, voltage, and capacity specified for that exact model. Do not substitute a lithium cell for Ni-MH, Ni-Cd, or LiFePO4 unless the manufacturer expressly approves it. Warranty terms also vary by model: one Harbor Breeze manual describes a one-year warranty, while particular Hampton Bay manuals show two-year limited warranties. Neither duration should be assumed to apply to every product from that brand.

- Inspect and measure. Check the gutter lip, guards, and the mounting surface; compare them with the fixture’s clip or bracket dimensions.
- Find a sun-exposed spot. Avoid locations shaded by eaves or trees for much of the day.
- Keep the sensor away from competing light. A porch lamp or streetlight shining directly on the photosensor may prevent normal dusk activation.
- Activate and charge. Remove any battery-isolator tab, set the switch to ON if present, and give the unit a full sunny-day charge before judging its performance.
- Mount without stressing the gutter. Use the included clip, thumb screw, bracket, or approved fascia hardware. Do not overtighten a clamp or drill into the gutter unless the instructions specifically support it.
- Aim consistently. Direct the light toward the walkway, steps, wall, or planting bed; avoid shining it into windows or neighboring property.
- Test after dark. Confirm automatic operation. If it stays off, cover the panel to simulate darkness and check the switch, isolator tab, and sensor.
- Recheck after wind and rain. Make sure the fixture has not rotated, loosened, or begun pulling on the gutter edge.
Renters may be able to use a clamp without drilling, but should check the lease or ask the property owner first. Keep any fixture secure and away from positions where it could fall onto a walkway.

Verdict
For an inexpensive decorative glow, start with the Hampton Bay white two-pack, while treating its lumen output as unresolved. Choose Deck Impressions when the brighter advertised output is worth the added cost, or Harbor Breeze when a hanger-style clamp is the priority. The generic multi-packs need a clear fit or beam advantage to justify their observed prices and thinner documentation.
Buy one two-pack first, install it in a sunny spot, and observe it over several nights—including after a cloudy day—before outfitting the whole house. That small test reveals whether the light level, charging, sensor behavior, and gutter fit work on your property.
