What counts as a pedestal TV base?
A tabletop pedestal base supports a television from its rear mounting holes, using one central column or support instead of two feet near the screen’s edges. It sits on a console, cabinet, dresser, or other suitable furniture. That can solve a practical problem when factory feet are missing, too widely spaced for a narrow console, or visually wrong for the room. The 70° figure is not a promise that every room can use the full movement: the TV needs clearance, the furniture must remain stable, and cables need enough slack to move without pulling at the ports.
SANUS says its mounts undergo a loading procedure involving four times the listed rated capacity as part of its UL safety-testing process. That is a manufacturer statement about its process; it should not be generalized to other brands or treated as a substitute for checking this model’s fit and installation requirements.

Height adjustment can help position a screen above a soundbar, but “height adjustable” does not mean every soundbar will fit. Measure the soundbar and the intended gap, and check whether the mounting column or plate obscures the bar’s display, remote sensor, or upward-firing speakers.

Best large-TV value option: AVF B600BB-A
The AVF B600BB-A is listed for 50–77-inch televisions weighing up to 99 pounds. AVF specifies VESA patterns from 100 × 100 mm through 600 × 400 mm, 45° rotation, and cable management. That makes it a practical option when you need a central base for a large screen but do not require the greater swivel angle advertised by SANUS.

Best design statement: Pedestal’s furniture-style stands
Pedestal’s TV stand range includes expressive models such as Moon, Viva, Bloom, Disco, and Rover. Rover is the mobility-oriented wheeled option. These stands suit buyers who want the television support to contribute to the room’s design rather than disappear as mounting hardware.

Choose the right kind of stand for the room
- Choose a universal tabletop pedestal if the TV will sit on a media console and you need a central support, a smaller footprint for the feet, or a replacement for missing factory legs.
- Choose a swivel base if the screen needs to face a sofa and another seating area, or if you want to adjust its angle to manage glare. Check clearance and cable slack first.
- Choose a height-adjustable model if the current screen position is too low, or if you need a measured gap above a soundbar. Confirm that the available positions work with the TV’s VESA-hole location.
- Choose a furniture-style pedestal if the stand is a prominent part of the room and appearance justifies the added cost. Verify model-specific compatibility instead of relying on the category name.
- Choose a rolling stand only if moving the TV is a core need. Look for locking casters and a secure mounting system; do not move the stand with the TV unsecured.
- Choose an official replacement stand if you want the closest fit to the TV and the manufacturer offers the correct part. It may be less flexible than a universal base, but model-specific hardware can avoid some adapter and clearance issues.
If you want a TV stand that is not on a console, make sure you are comparing floor-standing products, not tabletop bases. A wheeled cart, floor stand, or freestanding furniture pedestal has different stability, footprint, and installation requirements.
How to check whether a pedestal base fits your TV
- Find the TV’s weight without its original feet. Use the manufacturer’s specification for the set alone where possible. The new stand’s rated capacity must exceed that weight; do not rely on screen size as a proxy for weight.
- Measure the VESA pattern. VESA is the center-to-center distance between the horizontal and vertical mounting holes on the back of the TV, stated in millimeters. A pattern such as 400 × 400 mm means 400 mm across and 400 mm vertically. Measure hole centers, not the outer edges of the recess. The television manual or manufacturer’s specifications may list it.
- Compare the full specification, not just the diagonal. A TV can fall within a stand’s stated 55–86-inch range and still be incompatible if its VESA pattern, weight, or back-panel geometry falls outside the limits.
- Inspect the back of the TV and its ports. Check whether the mounting plate will cover HDMI, optical, USB, antenna, Ethernet, or power connections. Recessed holes, a curved enclosure, or unusual hole placement may require spacers or make a particular stand unsuitable.
- Check screw length and mounting hardware. Use the screw diameter and length specified for your television and stand. A screw that is too long can damage the TV; do not guess. Confirm whether the kit includes appropriate screws, washers, spacers, and any locking or anti-tip hardware required for installation.
- Measure the furniture and base. Compare the base’s full width and depth with the console top. Check the TV’s position relative to the furniture edges, the distance from the front edge, and whether the furniture is rated to carry the concentrated load. Leave space for ventilation and cables.
- Plan the soundbar and cables. Measure the soundbar’s height and width, the available space below the screen, and the stand’s column position. For a swiveling base, make sure cables have enough slack for the intended movement without bending sharply or pulling on ports.
“Universal” generally means a stand supports a stated range of hole patterns and other limits. It does not mean every TV of a given diagonal fits without checking screw length, spacers, clearance, and geometry.

Stability starts with the whole setup
Base material is only one part of stability. Consider the footprint, whether the screen sits centered over it, the furniture’s depth and condition, and whether the TV will be pushed or adjusted. A central base may occupy less width than factory feet while concentrating load in one area. Use level, undamaged furniture that can support the combined load, and do not install on a sloping or unstable surface.
A pedestal does not by itself guarantee tip resistance. In homes with children or pets, high-traffic rooms, or other elevated risks, consider an appropriate anti-tip strap or tether secured according to the TV and furniture instructions. Follow the manufacturers’ installation guidance rather than improvising an attachment point.

Set height for the viewing position, not a universal number
There is no single correct height for every room. As a starting point, position the screen so its center is near the seated viewer’s eye level, then account for the console, chair or sofa height, soundbar, and sightlines from other seats. If the TV’s VESA holes sit unusually high or low on its back, the screen may land at a different position than the mount’s adjustment range suggests.
Swivel can help, but it needs space
Swivel is useful when viewers sit off-center, the room is open-plan, or you want to turn the screen away from glare. A larger advertised range is not automatically better: the screen can hit a wall or shelving, the console must remain stable as the TV moves, and cables must not bind. Leave adequate slack and test the planned movement gently after installation.
Cable routing should work at the furthest angle
A cable-management channel can make a setup neater, but check its capacity and exit points. Thick HDMI and power leads may not fit together, and swiveling can strain plugs even if the stand itself moves smoothly. Route cables so the TV can reach its intended viewing angles without tension.
Soundbar clearance needs measurement
Distinguish between a base that leaves room below the screen, one that includes a shelf, and one that puts a central column where a soundbar might sit. Measure the bar and check whether the stand or TV blocks its display, IR sensor, or upward-firing drivers. Height adjustment may create useful clearance, but only if the resulting screen height works for the room.

- Use the supplied or manufacturer-specified screws, washers, and spacers; do not force a screw that does not fit.
- Place the base on level, sturdy furniture with enough depth and load capacity for the complete setup.
- Tighten all hardware as instructed and verify that the TV is securely attached before letting go.
- Use an anti-tip strap or tether where appropriate, particularly around children and pets.
- Route cables with slack for the full swivel range and keep them away from pinch points.
