Android Headlines named the EcoFlow–Homey collaboration one of its Best of CES 2026 picks in an article published January 8, 2026. That is an editorial award from Android Headlines—not an official CES Innovation Award administered by the Consumer Technology Association. The technology behind the recognition is nevertheless concrete: Homey energy data can inform EcoFlow storage decisions, while EcoFlow and smart-meter data can drive Homey automations.
For homeowners, solar users and EV owners, the partnership could reduce the gap between energy monitoring and smart-home control. Its practical value depends on your country, smart-meter interface, exact EcoFlow model, Homey setup and tolerance for cloud-connected automation.
What the EcoFlow–Homey partnership is
EcoFlow supplies home-energy equipment such as solar systems, batteries and related energy-management products. Homey provides the smart-home platform, Energy dashboard and Flow automation engine; the CES coverage uses the name “Homey by LG.” That branding should not be read as proof that LG manufactures the Energy Dongle or EcoFlow equipment.

The later collaboration adds a closer link: Homey says its Energy Dongle can be added to the EcoFlow app so live smart-meter information can help manage storage and consumption. Why this matters: energy data is usually fragmented
Solar production may live in an inverter app, battery state in a storage app, an EV charger in another service, and appliances in a smart-home platform. Without shared data, an automation cannot reliably know whether solar power is available, whether a battery is near its reserve, or whether electricity is currently expensive.
Homey’s Energy platform is intended to put those signals into one automation environment, while EcoFlow can use the same meter information for energy-management decisions. The result is potentially fewer manual app changes and better timing of flexible loads—not a guarantee of lower bills or universal device control.
How the data flows
The basic path is:
Compatible smart meter → Homey Energy Dongle → Homey Energy and EcoFlow app → battery strategy and smart-home Flows

Homey data flowing into EcoFlow
The Energy Dongle connects to a compatible European smart meter through its P1 port. Homey says the feed can include household consumption, solar production and energy exported to the grid. EcoFlow can use that information to coordinate storage and usage. The exact functions depend on the EcoFlow model, firmware, country and account services.
Energy data flowing into Homey automations
Homey Flow and Advanced Flow can use conditions such as solar output, battery charge, household consumption, energy prices and charging or discharging events. Homey’s Energy documentation gives examples including charging an EV during solar surplus, shifting loads to cheaper periods and using stored energy during expensive grid periods.

Useful automation examples
These are illustrative routines, not guaranteed features for every EcoFlow installation:
- Permit EV charging when solar generation exceeds a chosen threshold.
- Start a dishwasher or washing machine during sustained solar surplus.
- Notify you when the battery reaches its emergency-reserve level.
- During an outage, reduce nonessential loads while prioritizing refrigeration, networking, security or medical equipment.
- Charge a battery during a low-price period and use stored energy during a high-price period.
- Show production, consumption and battery state on one dashboard.
- Trigger a light or notification when an EcoFlow EV charger finishes.
Set delays, minimum run times and battery-reserve rules so stale readings do not repeatedly start and stop high-load equipment.

EcoFlow equipment
Homey’s earlier announcement specifically identifies EcoFlow PowerOcean products, including the inverter, battery, PowerGlow, PowerHeat, PowerPulse and solar panels. EcoFlow’s CES 2026 page describes a broader ecosystem that also includes energy monitors, thermostats, EV chargers, refrigerators and other devices, but that marketing description is not a model-by-model compatibility list.

The Energy Dongle is separate hardware. Homey lists compatibility with Homey Pro, Homey Pro mini, Homey Self-Hosted Server and Homey Cloud.
The biggest regional issue: the Energy Dongle is P1-based
Homey’s Energy Dongle page describes a P1 smart-meter connection and lists selected European markets, including the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Denmark, Hungary, Sweden, Finland, Austria, Lithuania, Switzerland, Germany and Slovenia. It is not listed as universally available.

Many United States meters do not expose a consumer-accessible P1 port. A typical U.S. homeowner should therefore not buy the Dongle expecting plug-and-play compatibility. Possible alternatives include an EcoFlow-supported meter or gateway, an inverter integration, third-party monitoring, or local current-transformer measurement. Each requires model-, utility- and installer-specific verification.
Some smart meters also need external USB-C power. Homey says DSMR4 and DSMR2 meters generally require it, while DSMR5 or ESMR5 meters generally provide enough power. The Energy Dongle manual covers installation details.

- “EcoFlow integration” does not mean every portable power station, battery, inverter or charger is supported.
- Energy visibility does not automatically provide battery dispatch, circuit switching or outage load control.
- Some integrations may be read-only; others may rely on cloud APIs.
- Homey and EcoFlow may remain separate apps even when they share data.
- Dynamic-price routines depend on correct tariff, currency, location and time-zone data.
- Export limits, interconnection agreements and electrical codes still apply.
- Backup performance depends on installed capacity, transfer equipment, reserve settings, wiring and connected loads.
Critical backup loads should not rely solely on a convenience automation. Whole-home backup, panel work and transfer equipment require appropriately certified equipment and qualified electrical installation.
Who should consider it?
Strongest fit
- Existing EcoFlow PowerOcean owners who also use Homey.
- European households with a compatible P1 meter, solar generation, an EV, dynamic pricing or a home battery.
- Homey users who want cross-brand energy triggers rather than separate dashboards.
- New solar-and-storage buyers willing to configure and maintain automations.
Reasons to wait or choose another approach
- U.S. readers without a compatible meter or supported gateway.
- Portable-power-station owners seeking simple backup rather than home-energy integration.
- Households that require guaranteed local operation during internet outages.
- Buyers unwilling to verify exact models, firmware and regional support.
- Projects needing professional load-shedding or electrical-panel control.
Buying and compatibility checklist
- Confirm your country and whether the utility meter has a P1 port.
- Identify the exact EcoFlow model and check the official Homey app listing at Homey Apps.
- Determine whether you need monitoring, notifications, appliance control or battery dispatch.
- Choose Homey Cloud, Homey Pro, Pro mini or Self-Hosted Server based on local-operation and feature requirements.
- Check whether the meter supplies Dongle power or needs USB-C power.
- Verify tariff data, export rules, reserve settings and outage behavior with your installer and utility.
- Test every Flow with conservative thresholds before allowing it to control a high-load device.
Verdict
Android Headlines’ award recognizes a strategically important idea: connect real-time energy telemetry to a general smart-home automation system. The integration is most convincing for supported EcoFlow PowerOcean installations paired with Homey and, in eligible European markets, a P1 smart meter. It is not a universal CES-certified standard, a guaranteed U.S. solution or a promise that every EcoFlow device and appliance will work together. Check geography, exact hardware, control direction and connectivity before treating the partnership as a buying opportunity.
