Apple’s dedicated kitchen smart display is not available to buy. Apple officially supports HomePod, HomePod mini, and Apple TV as Apple Home hubs, while recent reports describe a separate, unconfirmed device that could arrive between late 2026 and early 2027. The reported product would combine a roughly 7-inch, square display with Siri, home controls and household information—but Apple has announced neither the product, its name, its price nor a launch date.

MacRumors reporting describes controls for lights and other accessories alongside music, weather, calendars, notes, photos and video calls. Those are reported capabilities, not confirmed specifications. Reports variously point to fall 2026 or a window extending into early 2027; no public Apple product page confirms either date (MacRumors, July 15, 2026; MacRumors, November 5, 2025).
Why a kitchen command center makes sense
A phone is personal. A screen mounted on a wall or placed on a counter can serve everyone in the house. In a kitchen, that shared, ambient role could be more valuable than another voice-only speaker.
- See lights, locks, thermostats, cameras and sensors at a glance.
- Set, check and dismiss multiple cooking timers without touching a phone.
- Play music or podcasts while your hands are wet or covered in food.
- Keep calendars, reminders and grocery lists visible to the household.
- Start an intercom message or video call while preparing a meal.
- Control compatible lighting, ventilation, shades and appliances from one place.
Compatibility will be device-specific. An oven, refrigerator, coffee machine or hood must support Apple Home or Matter, and some products need a manufacturer bridge. Matter improves cross-platform compatibility, but it does not guarantee that every advanced feature appears in Apple Home.

What Apple is reportedly building
The strongest reports describe a small, square, iPad-like screen in two configurations: a wall-mounted version and a countertop model connected to a speaker base. Siri would be central, with the display providing visual confirmation and household information. The reported concept is less a tablet on a stand than a purpose-built appliance that is always available in a shared location.
Do not treat the following as confirmed: a final product name, exact screen size, camera, chip, operating-system branding, robotic mount, Apple Intelligence features or a price. A price near $350 has appeared in reporting, but Apple has not announced one.
“Home hub” already means something at Apple
Apple currently uses “home hub” to describe infrastructure that keeps your home available remotely and runs automations. Apple says HomePod, HomePod mini and Apple TV can serve this role. A hub enables remote access, shared control and automations, and Apple requires one to add Matter accessories to Apple Home (Apple Support).
That is different from a visible kitchen dashboard:
- Current hub: Usually works in the background, maintaining automations and remote access.
- Rumored display: Would add a household-facing interface and might also provide hub functions.
- Home app: The control software on Apple devices.
- Matter: A shared accessory standard, not a promise of identical features across platforms.
Set up an Apple Home hub today
- Open the Home app and add a HomePod or HomePod mini; it becomes a hub automatically.
- For Apple TV, open Settings, choose AirPlay and Apple Home, then Room and select or add a room.
- In the Home app, select More → Home Settings → Home Hubs & Bridges.
- Review the active hub at the top. Automatic selection can be disabled if you need to prefer a particular hub.
Apple recommends that the hub remain in the home, powered on and connected to Wi-Fi. Keep the device software current, and ensure the owner’s Apple Account has iCloud Keychain and two-factor authentication enabled. If Home fails, verify the owner and room assignment, check the Apple TV default user, update and restart the hub, confirm power and Wi-Fi, then inspect Home Hubs & Bridges.
The kitchen test Apple would have to pass
A screen alone would not make this a command center. A useful appliance should:

- Offer fast access to rooms, scenes, cameras and climate controls.
- Handle household accounts, permissions, guests and children sensibly.
- Show clear visual feedback after a voice command changes a lock, light or thermostat.
- Recover gracefully when Wi-Fi, Thread, Matter or an accessory is offline.
- Provide an obvious privacy indicator and, if there is a camera, a hardware shutter would be reassuring.
- Work without a mandatory subscription for basic home control.
Wall mounting improves visibility and frees counter space, but introduces installation and cable-management work. Countertop placement is easier to move, yet exposes the device to spills, grease, heat and accidental knocks. Test microphone pickup and screen visibility in the actual kitchen rather than assuming a premium brand guarantees either.

Apple’s current HomePod details are listed on its HomePod buying page. Reported 2026 price increases make live-store verification especially important (MacRumors).
Apple versus Echo Show and Nest Hub
Amazon and Google already sell established smart displays. Google’s Nest Hub Max, for example, combines a display with video, music, photos and Google services. Echo Show models offer a similar household-screen concept with Alexa.
The meaningful comparison is not just screen size:
- Ecosystem: Apple Home versus Alexa or Google Home accessory breadth.
- Assistant: Whether Siri can understand room context, follow-ups and multi-step requests as reliably as rivals.
- Kitchen features: Timers, recipes, lists, cameras and calendar integration.
- Privacy: Camera controls, voice processing, account separation and advertising policies—none can be assumed for an unannounced Apple device.
- Interoperability: Matter and Thread support, plus any required bridges.
- Resilience: What remains functional when internet services or a manufacturer cloud is unavailable.
- Total cost: Hardware, mounts, sensors, bridges, subscriptions and installation.
Apple should not be presumed to have an advantage in privacy, artificial intelligence or interoperability until it publishes specifications and policies.
What better Siri would need to do
Reports connect the home hardware effort with Apple’s broader Siri work. For a kitchen appliance to justify a new screen, Siri would need to understand natural-language, multi-step requests; identify the intended room and device; answer follow-up questions; preserve existing timers; combine actions into scenes; distinguish household members; and explain or recover from offline accessories. Those are requirements for a useful product, not promises about the rumored one.
Matter, Thread and appliance limits
Apple says Matter is integrated into its platforms, but a home hub is required to add Matter accessories to Apple Home. Thread-enabled Matter products need a Thread-capable hub or border router (Apple Developer; Apple Support).

Before buying a kitchen device, check its exact model number, Apple Home and Matter certification, required bridge, and whether the specific function you want—not merely on/off—is supported. Remote operation can also be restricted by the appliance maker or local safety rules.
Should you wait?
- Wait if you specifically want a first-party Apple touchscreen, a shared kitchen dashboard and can tolerate an uncertain late-2026 or early-2027 window.
- Buy a HomePod mini now if you need inexpensive Apple Home automation, Siri, sensing and a current hub, but no display.
- Buy a HomePod if audio is the priority and a screen is optional.
- Buy an Apple TV 4K if you also need streaming and the hub can live near the television.
- Use an iPad if you need a visual panel immediately and accept mounting, power and account-management compromises.
- Choose Google or Amazon if an established smart display, recipes, YouTube, Google Photos or Alexa features matter more than Apple integration.
- Consider a third-party hub such as Aqara’s Hub M3 if your home spans Apple, Google and Amazon or needs Zigbee, Thread and Matter bridging; complexity increases.
Multiple Apple hubs can improve redundancy, but they will not fix weak Wi-Fi, a misconfigured Thread network, a cloud outage, a defective Matter device or conflicting automations.

Is Apple’s kitchen smart display available now?

Can I build an Apple kitchen dashboard today?

Will a Matter label guarantee that a kitchen appliance works fully in Apple Home?
No. Matter improves interoperability, but feature support varies by accessory, platform and required bridge. Verify the exact model and desired function.
The Bottom Line
Apple appears to be preparing a dedicated visual interface for Apple Home, but the kitchen command center is still a report—not a product you can order. If you need automation today, buy the HomePod mini, HomePod or Apple TV that fits your setup. If what you really want is a shared, glanceable Apple screen in the kitchen, waiting for Apple to confirm the device, software, price and privacy model is the sensible choice.
