Apple appears to be investigating personal home robots, but it has not announced a robot for sale. Bloomberg has reported two separate concepts: a mobile robot that could follow people around a house and a tabletop device that could move an iPad-like display. A later report identified 2027 as a possible target for the tabletop product, but Apple has not confirmed its design, price, specifications, or launch date.
What Bloomberg reported
Bloomberg first reported on April 3, 2024, that Apple engineers were exploring home-robotics projects. The report, based on people familiar with the work, described an early-stage effort rather than a committed product launch. Bloomberg also said Apple had not decided whether either project would reach consumers.
The reporting followed Apple’s cancellation of its long-running electric-vehicle project and placed robotics among the possible categories Apple could pursue next. That does not mean the robot project is guaranteed to continue. Apple can cancel, redesign, or delay experimental hardware before it becomes a commercial product.
Apple’s reported robotics work is more credible than a patent rumor or speculative concept because Bloomberg described active engineering and research, including robotics-related hiring. It is still important to distinguish “Apple is developing or investigating a prototype” from “Apple is preparing a product for release.”

Apple is reportedly exploring two different robots
A mobile robot that follows people
The first concept is a mobile home robot able to move through a house and follow users. Bloomberg did not establish its final shape, navigation system, battery life, sensors, autonomy, price, or intended launch window.
Nothing in the available reporting supports calling this device a humanoid robot. It could eventually take many forms, and Apple may never commercialize it. Describing it as an Apple-made household servant or general-purpose machine would go beyond the evidence.
A mobile robot would face difficult practical problems, including stairs, clutter, pets, children, changing lighting, narrow spaces, and safe movement around furniture. Whether it could do more than carry or position a screen is unknown.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:

The second concept is more clearly described. It would be a tabletop device with a display mounted to, or moved by, a robotic mechanism. Earlier reporting characterized the screen as “iPad-like.” Bloomberg’s later coverage described it as a virtual companion and connected it to Apple’s broader artificial-intelligence and smart-home plans.
The device could potentially turn or swivel its display toward the person speaking, show information, answer questions, provide communications and entertainment, and control connected-home devices. Bloomberg reportedly referred to the internal project as J595; that is an alleged internal code name, not a confirmed retail product name.

The available reports do not establish that this robot will cook, clean, wash dishes, carry objects, or perform general household chores. Bloomberg has discussed Apple’s longer-term interest in machines that could handle chores, but those capabilities should not be treated as features of the reported tabletop product.
Is Apple actually building a product?
The most accurate answer is: Apple is reportedly doing serious robotics work, but no consumer product is confirmed.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →The April 2024 report explicitly described the projects as early-stage and said Apple had not committed to launching them. Prototypes can change substantially, lose major features, or disappear entirely. Even an internal project that receives engineering resources is not necessarily a product that will receive a launch event, retail page, or long-term support.
Apple has also published robotics-related research, but research demonstrations are not product announcements. Until Apple provides official details, claims about the robot’s operating system, display size, cameras, microphones, battery, subscription model, or compatibility remain speculation.
Why Apple may want a robot in the home
Bloomberg’s reporting connects the project to Apple’s effort to make Siri and its artificial-intelligence systems more capable. A physical device could give Siri a more persistent presence in a household instead of limiting voice assistance to phones, computers, tablets, watches, and speakers.

A robot with a screen could also combine several Apple strengths:
- Hardware design and displays
- Voice recognition and artificial intelligence
- Home automation and connected-device control
- Personal information, communications, and entertainment
- Privacy and security features built into Apple’s ecosystem
This could help Apple expand its smart-home business and create another device category tied to its services and accounts. The idea that a home robot would increase ecosystem loyalty is a strategic inference from the reported product direction, not a publicly declared Apple business plan.
The plan also depends heavily on Siri. A moving display is not especially useful if it cannot understand household context, identify the correct user, answer follow-up questions, or control devices reliably. Bloomberg has reported that Apple’s more conversational Siri is central to its home strategy, while delays and difficulties affecting Apple’s AI rollout could influence the robot’s schedule and capabilities.
When could Apple’s robot arrive?
Bloomberg reported on August 13, 2025, that Apple was targeting 2027 for the tabletop robot. That is best understood as an internal or reported target, not a confirmed release date.
| Date | What was reported |
|---|---|
| April 3, 2024 | Apple was exploring mobile and tabletop home-robotics concepts in an early research phase. |
| August 13, 2025 | The tabletop device was described as a virtual companion with a reported 2027 target. |
| July 28, 2026 | Bloomberg reported that Apple’s nearer-term smart-home push centered on a Siri-powered hub, a new TV set-top box, and a refreshed HomePod mini. |
| August 18, 2026 | No public Apple announcement had confirmed a robot, product name, price, specifications, or retail availability. |
The reported 2027 timing could slip or disappear. Apple’s history of delaying or cancelling ambitious projects makes a firm prediction inappropriate.

What Apple sells today
Consumers cannot currently buy an Apple robot. Apple’s official HomePod page lists the HomePod and HomePod mini as its current smart-home speakers. Apple says these products support Siri and smart-home hub functions, but they are speakers—not mobile robots or robotic displays.
At the time covered by the supplied reporting, Apple listed the HomePod at $349 and the HomePod mini at $129 in the United States. Prices and availability can change; consult Apple’s official store page for current information.
HomePod mini is the more practical entry point for an Apple household that wants a compact Siri speaker and home hub. HomePod is aimed more at buyers who prioritize higher-end audio. Neither purchase guarantees compatibility with a future Apple robot, and Apple has not said that a robot would replace a HomePod, Apple TV, or another home hub.
What to check if Apple announces the product
A robot’s novelty will matter less than its everyday reliability. Prospective buyers should look for answers to these questions:
- What can it actually do? Does it merely reposition a display, or can it navigate rooms and complete useful tasks?
- How reliable is the AI? Can it handle follow-up questions, distinguish household members, and request confirmation before unlocking doors, changing security settings, or making purchases?
- What happens to private data? Buyers should know whether microphones and cameras are always active, which processing occurs locally or in Apple’s cloud, and how household data can be deleted.
- What does it support? Check compatibility with Apple Home, Matter accessories, third-party devices, Apple Accounts, languages, and country-specific features.
- Is it safe? A moving mechanism should stop when blocked or lifted, avoid pinching fingers, resist falling from a table, and offer physical privacy controls and an emergency stop.
- What is the total cost? Consider hardware, repairs, AppleCare, possible cloud or security subscriptions, and any required smart-home accessories.
- Can it be repaired? Moving parts may wear out faster than a conventional speaker or display. Warranty terms, parts availability, repair pricing, and software-support duration will matter.
What the current evidence does not establish
- That Apple is making a humanoid robot
- That the robot will clean, cook, carry objects, or wash dishes
- That the 2027 target is a guaranteed launch date
- That a final design has been approved
- That Apple has set a price, battery specification, display size, or subscription
- That the robot will work with every Apple Home or Matter accessory
- That the device will replace a professionally monitored security system
What would confirm the project is becoming real?
The strongest confirmation would be an official Apple announcement supported by a product page, technical specifications, support documentation, and a retail date. Other meaningful signals could include Apple trademark or regulatory filings, developer documentation for a new home or robotics framework, and demonstrations showing navigation, user identity, privacy controls, safety behavior, and real-world home-device integration.
A single leak, research paper, or prototype image would not answer the most important consumer questions.
The bottom line
Bloomberg’s reports make it reasonable to say that Apple is investigating personal home robotics. The clearest reported idea is a tabletop AI companion with a display that can move or turn toward users, while a separate mobile robot has also been explored. But Apple has not announced a robot, and the reported 2027 target is not a promise. For now, Apple’s confirmed smart-home hardware remains HomePod and HomePod mini—not a robot.
