Brava ceased normal business operations on March 6, 2026. The company says it is no longer selling new ovens and has no further recipes, software updates, or accessibility updates planned. Its cloud service and existing recipe library were still operating according to Brava’s support notice, but Brava warns that access may be changed, limited, or discontinued at any time.
That does not mean every Brava oven stopped cooking on March 6. The hardware may continue to work, but connected features, repairs, and replacement parts are now uncertain. Here is what current owners should do—and what to check before choosing a replacement.
What Brava’s shutdown means
Brava Home made a countertop oven that used coordinated infrared and visible-light lamps arranged across three cooking zones. Its appeal was a combination of automated cooking programs, temperature-sensor cooking, app monitoring and notifications, and functions such as baking, searing, toasting, reheating, dehydrating, air frying, and keeping food warm. The company’s former product pages remain online, but they should not be read as evidence that new ovens are available: Brava says it has stopped selling them.

The distinction matters: a business can stop operating while an app or server remains temporarily available, and an oven can continue heating even if some connected features later disappear.

What may still work—and what is at risk

Brava’s membership materials describe connected features such as remote monitoring and recipe synchronization. Because those functions depend on services as well as hardware, they carry a different risk from a conventional oven’s manual temperature and timer controls.
What Brava owners should do now
- Save ownership records. Keep your receipt, serial number, warranty details, order history, and correspondence somewhere you can access without the Brava app.
- Contact support promptly about active issues. Ask specifically whether your problem qualifies for repair or warranty service, whether the relevant part is available, and what options apply to any pending return or refund. A warranty does not by itself guarantee that a repair or replacement will be available after a shutdown.
- Copy important cooking information. Record favorite recipe names, ingredients, temperatures, timings, doneness settings, and sensor instructions outside the app. Photograph oven screens or write down custom settings you would not want to lose.
- Test the oven while support is available. Check the display, lamps, trays, temperature sensor, app connection, and the programs you rely on. Note any problems and report them rather than waiting for a failure.
- Ask about parts you may need. If a tray, sensor, or other replaceable item is damaged or missing, ask Brava about availability. Do not assume stock will remain, and do not open the appliance for an improvised repair: it contains high-power lamps and electrical components.
- Make a fallback plan if you depend on it daily. Identify a conventional countertop oven or another supported appliance before a failure leaves you without a reliable way to cook.
Should you buy a used Brava?
Only consider one at a price that reflects meaningful service, parts, and cloud risk. Ask the seller to demonstrate the oven operating, confirm that all required accessories and sensors are included, and check whether it can still connect to Brava’s service. Do not pay a premium on the assumption that the recipe library, app, or repair support will remain available indefinitely. Brava’s official notice says it is no longer selling new ovens; old retail pages and displayed prices are not proof of current availability.

Why this is another setback for smart ovens
Brava is not the first connected-oven business to disappear. June’s smart-oven business was acquired by Weber and later discontinued; The Spoon’s retrospective places Brava’s closure in that broader category history. The lesson is not that every smart oven is doomed. Tovala remains an active smart-oven and meal business, and products such as Anova and Suvie pursue different cooking and service models. But Brava illustrates the risk of paying for features whose operation depends on a company’s servers, proprietary recipes, or support organization.
Before choosing a replacement, ask whether the oven can cook manually without an account or internet connection, whether temperature and time can be set on the appliance itself, and whether saved programs remain usable offline. Then examine the business model: is the company mainly selling hardware, or does the product depend on subscriptions, meal deliveries, or cloud services? Check warranty terms and the availability of consumable and replacement parts as well as the headline price.

Replacement options, by what you need
Tovala: guided cooking and optional meals
Tovala is worth considering if you want app-guided cooking and the option of meal delivery. Tovala says its oven can be purchased without a meal commitment and used without an active meal plan; see its no-meals purchase guidance. That makes meals an option rather than a prerequisite, but it does not make Tovala a one-for-one Brava replacement: the cooking systems and capabilities differ, and a buyer seeking strong offline independence should verify the manual controls and service dependence directly.
Tovala support materials listed MSRPs of $299 for the Smart Oven and $349 for the Smart Oven Pro, with meal prices and shipping also listed on its pricing page. These are page-listed figures, not a guarantee of current checkout prices or permanent meal-plan terms. Compare the appliance price separately from food, shipping, and any accessories.

Anova Precision Oven: steam and temperature precision
Anova may suit cooks who value steam, precision, and manual cooking flexibility more than Brava-style automated light cooking. It is a different type of oven, not a direct substitute. Before buying, confirm the current model, warranty, app and cloud requirements, water-tank upkeep, and availability of trays, seals, and other replacement parts through Anova’s official site.
Suvie: an appliance-plus-food-service model
Suvie is relevant if you are open to a system that combines cooking with a food-delivery ecosystem. Consider how much you want to depend on that service, and compare delivery, cleaning, capacity, and recipe flexibility. It is not a general-purpose substitute for Brava’s searing or light-based cooking. Check current plans and product details with Suvie.

A conventional countertop oven: fewer connected dependencies
If continuity matters more than automation, consider a conventional toaster or countertop oven with usable manual controls. App-connected models can still lose app support, so “smart” is not a guarantee of resilience. A simple model that can set time and temperature directly may be the lower-risk fit for someone who wants basic cooking to keep working even if a service closes. No fully verified, supported new product in the supplied information reproduces Brava’s specific light-based, multi-zone method.
A practical buying test
- Offline use: Can you set temperature and time and cook without an account or internet connection?
- Feature dependence: Which features stop working if the app, recipe service, or remote servers disappear?
- Support: Are warranty terms clear, and can you find a support channel and replacement parts?
- Total cost: Add the appliance, subscription or meal commitment, shipping, accessories, and likely replacement parts—not just the advertised oven price.
- Fit: Decide whether you need steam, guided meals, conventional convection, or Brava’s unusual light-based cooking before comparing specifications.
For the category’s broader business context, coverage of smart ovens’ commercial challenges offers perspective, but Brava has not publicly supplied a detailed cause for its own shutdown in the notice cited here. It would be speculation to assign the closure to a single financial or technical cause.
