The eufyCam S4 is no longer awaiting launch: eufy lists it for sale in the United States. The camera was unveiled at IFA 2025, with pre-sales announced for September 4, 2025; Anker’s announcement said the retail launch date would follow. As of August 18, 2026, eufy’s U.S. listing shows the single camera at $349.99. The S4’s defining feature is its combination of a fixed 4K overview camera and dual 2K pan-and-tilt lenses, plus a detachable solar panel. What makes the eufyCam S4 different?
The S4 is a three-lens outdoor camera designed to keep a wide view while following activity. Its fixed 4K bullet camera provides the overview; two 2K PTZ lenses can pan, tilt, zoom and track a detected subject. That arrangement is intended to reduce a common PTZ trade-off: when a movable camera turns toward a person, it can lose sight of the rest of the scene. The fixed lens remains pointed at its original view while the PTZ system follows the subject.
eufy lists human, vehicle and pet detection, auto-framing and bullet-to-PTZ tracking. It also specifies a maximum combined field of view of 210 degrees. Those specifications do not mean every lens sees every direction at once: the PTZ unit’s stated pan is 355 degrees, and what the camera captures depends on its mounting position, tilt range, obstructions and tracking behavior. eufy’s specifications
How the solar panel works—and what it cannot guarantee
The included panel is rated at 5.5 watts and can stay attached to the camera or be detached and mounted where it receives better sun. Keeping it attached simplifies installation; separating it lets you aim the camera at the area to monitor and place the panel in a sunnier spot, at the cost of an extra mounting point and cable routing.

eufy says one hour of direct sunlight can provide a full day of power under optimal conditions. Its product information estimates about 1,000–2,500 mAh of daily collection in optimal sunlight against average camera use of about 300–550 mAh per day. These are manufacturer figures, not a guarantee for a particular property. Shade, winter daylight, cloud, snow or dirt on the panel can cut charging; frequent motion, tracking, spotlight use, siren activation, weak wireless signal and continuous recording can increase consumption. eufy also says SolarPlus 2.0 can begin charging at 2,500 lux and claims 220% greater charging efficiency than its prior 3W panel. Those are company claims; the available specifications do not establish how much charge a particular installation will produce. The practical benefit of the detachable panel is placement flexibility, not guaranteed year-round, maintenance-free operation.

Detection distances and coverage are specifications, not assurances of results at every site; subject size, approach angle, weather, lighting and installation affect detection. Does it need HomeBase?
No. eufy says a single S4 can operate on its own, with on-device human, vehicle and pet detection, 32GB of built-in storage, and a microSD slot supporting cards up to 256GB. The card is not included. Basic camera use therefore does not require buying a hub. eufy’s compatibility information
A HomeBase S380, called HomeBase 3 in eufy compatibility terminology, adds BionicMind AI recognition, familiar-person recognition, cross-camera tracking and centralized storage. The S380 has 16GB of built-in storage and can expand to as much as 16TB using a compatible portable drive, which is not included. eufy also lists 24/7 Smart Snapshot features with the S380. Storage retention depends on capacity, recording mode, resolution and how often the camera records.
Do not assume an existing eufy hub will work: eufy’s published compatibility information says the S4 is not currently supported by HomeBase 2/S280, HomeBase mini, HomeBase Professional or eufy NVR. Existing S380 owners should check that the base station is updated to at least firmware V3.7.2.8 and use the latest eufy Security app; eufy says some 24/7 recording or Snapshot features may not be available without the update. Recording, power and subscriptions
Battery or solar operation is suited to motion-triggered recording and occasional live viewing. eufy lists 24/7 continuous recording when the camera is connected to direct power by USB-C; solar charging alone should not be treated as equivalent to a wired supply for continuous recording. Consider it for a wide, active outdoor area
A front yard, driveway, delivery area or L-shaped property can benefit from keeping a fixed overview while the PTZ lenses follow activity. It is also more compelling where running power is difficult but the panel can receive dependable sunlight.

If one camera, motion-event recording, local storage and on-device detection meet your needs, the single-camera configuration avoids the extra cost of a HomeBase. Add a microSD card only if the built-in capacity is insufficient.

Choose S380 when its specific features matter
The HomeBase bundle is more appropriate if you want familiar-person recognition, cross-camera tracking, centralized storage or Smart Snapshot functions, or are building a multi-camera eufy system. Confirm compatibility and firmware before relying on those features.
Look elsewhere if your installation has a hard constraint
- Deep shade or prolonged winter darkness: Solar charging may not keep up with activity, so plan for direct power or another power arrangement.
- Guaranteed 24/7 recording without a power cable: eufy specifies direct power for continuous recording.
- An unsupported existing hub: The S4’s HomeBase integration is not universal across eufy hubs.
- Small or discreet installation: The camera and tilted panel together extend to 305 mm in one dimension.
- No reliable Wi-Fi or hub connection: The supplied product information does not establish cellular connectivity.
Verdict
The eufyCam S4 is best understood as a premium hybrid camera: a fixed 4K view paired with tracking 2K PTZ lenses, with a solar panel that can be repositioned for better exposure. Its practical appeal depends on matching the setup to the site. Choose it for wide outdoor coverage and tracking when sunlight is available; choose the S380 only when its added ecosystem features justify the cost. If uninterrupted 24/7 recording is essential, plan for direct power rather than relying on solar alone.
