Short answer: the Anker MACH R1 was one of the most inventive robot-vacuum concepts shown at IFA 2023, but it was not independently tested enough to call it 2024’s best—and there is no reliable evidence that it became a normal U.S. retail product. Its continuously rinsed roller mop, internal dirty-water tank and turret-free navigation were promising demonstrations, not a finished buying recommendation.
What the MACH R1 actually was
The MACH R1 was presented as a premium robot vacuum and mop from Anker’s MACH line, separate from the company’s better-known eufy branding at the time. The original hands-on report was published on August 31, 2023, after an IFA demonstration. It was an early preview, not a long-term home test or laboratory review.
Anker positioned the machine around an “Always Clean” mopping concept rather than simply advertising the highest suction figure. The reported specification was 4,000 Pa, but that number came from the product presentation and was not independently measured. Suction-pressure figures also cannot be compared fairly across brands without a common test method.

The later market picture is important. The available evidence does not show a verified MACH R1 launch with ordinary U.S. retail availability, a confirmed price, or a continuing support channel. Anker’s robot-vacuum portfolio subsequently centered on eufy products, while eufy’s January 2026 MACH update describes the MACH series as discontinued. That makes the R1 primarily a notable prototype or preproduction preview, not a current product to order.

The roller mop was the genuinely unusual idea
Most robot mops use a flat cloth or one or two spinning pads. The MACH R1 instead used a wide cylindrical roller. According to the demonstration description:
- Fresh water moistened the roller.
- The roller contacted the floor while rotating.
- A rubber lip or wiping mechanism removed used water and debris from the roller.
- The recovered water went into a separate dirty-water tank inside the robot.
- At the dock, the roller was rinsed and dried.
In principle, this prevents a robot from repeatedly dragging the same dirty pad across the room. That is a plausible hygiene and cleaning advantage, but the preview supplied no stain scores, residue measurements, scratch testing or comparison against spinning-pad robots. It should therefore be described as an engineering promise, not a proven result.
The dock reportedly held separate clean- and dirty-water tanks, a cleaning-agent cartridge, a dust bag, roller-washing hardware, dirty-water extraction and drying equipment. Its tall, narrow, curved shape was intended to fit those systems vertically instead of using a broad, conventional box-shaped base.

What about ozone-treated water?
The MACH team reportedly used a platinum catalyst to enrich fresh water with ozone and said this would provide a disinfecting effect. No microbiological results were supplied. Ozone water should not be presented as sterilization or as a substitute for a disinfectant approved for a particular floor or health use.

Navigation without a roof-mounted turret
The R1 did not have the familiar rotating LiDAR tower on top. Instead, the report describes LiDAR mounted inside the body, looking through a front opening with an approximately 270-degree field of view. A front-facing time-of-flight (ToF) depth sensor supplied additional distance information, including in darkness.
A lower sensor profile could let the robot reach under furniture that blocks a turret-equipped machine. “No turret,” however, does not mean “no LiDAR.” It also does not eliminate sensing trade-offs: a body-mounted arrangement may have different blind spots and coverage constraints near walls, furniture and corners. The ToF module was described as low resolution and not as a conventional surveillance camera.
On the exhibition setup, the hands-on writer found that the robot appeared to follow walls and corners unusually closely. That is useful evidence that the prototype’s navigation was promising. It is not evidence that it would reliably avoid cables, socks, pet waste, dark furniture, reflective surfaces, thresholds or crowded rooms in ordinary homes.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsWhat the demonstration proved—and what it did not
| Evidence available | What remains unknown |
|---|---|
| Roller mop, fresh-water wetting and dirty-water recovery were demonstrated or explained. | Pickup percentages, dried-stain performance and water left on floors. |
| Internal LiDAR and a front ToF sensor were described. | Failure rates with black, transparent or reflective objects, rugs and thresholds. |
| The dock included washing and drying functions. | Long-term clogging, hair wrapping, leaks, noise, energy and water consumption. |
| A 4,000 Pa suction rating was reported. | Standardized vacuum performance, battery runtime and dust-bin behavior. |
| Navigation looked impressive on an IFA course. | Map retention, app reliability, recovery after getting stuck and multi-room performance. |
That distinction matters. The article’s original “Is 2024’s best robot vacuum coming from Anker?” framing was a forward-looking question, not a test conclusion. Nothing in the available material establishes that the R1 cleaned better than the Roborock, Ecovacs, Narwal or eufy models available at the time.

Potential strengths and practical drawbacks
Why the concept was attractive
- A continuously refreshed roller could be more sensible for wet dirt than a pad that gradually becomes dirty.
- Internal dirty-water handling is a distinctive approach to separating clean and used liquid.
- A low-profile sensor layout may improve clearance under low furniture.
- Automatic detergent handling, roller washing and drying could reduce daily work.
- The design attempted something more substantial than another turret-LiDAR robot with spinning pads.
Why ownership could have been difficult
- The R1’s retail status, price, warranty region and service network were not established.
- Pumps, rollers, wipers, seals, water paths and drying hardware add maintenance points.
- The tall dock may fit beneath fewer shelves despite its narrow footprint.
- An internal dirty-water tank consumes space and adds weight and plumbing complexity.
- Replacement rollers, detergent, filters, dust bags and other consumables could be hard to source.
- There was no verified long-term app, firmware or parts-support policy.
- Ozone claims were not accompanied by independent efficacy data.
A serious evaluation would also need to check hair accumulation, roller-end clogs, dirty-water leaks, excess moisture on wood, carpet detection and mop lifting, transitions between floor types, empty- or full-tank behavior, map recovery after manual movement and dock-channel cleaning.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Did it become 2024’s best robot vacuum?
No—not on the available evidence. The MACH R1 deserves recognition as an ambitious IFA design preview, particularly for its roller-mop architecture and hidden LiDAR. But “best” requires repeatable comparative testing, confirmed availability and a supportable ownership proposition. The preview supplied none of the necessary cleaning, navigation, reliability or maintenance measurements.
Current status reinforces that conclusion. Eufy now describes MACH products as discontinued, and the reviewed material provides no reliable evidence that the R1 became a normally supported U.S. retail model. Treat marketplace listings for an alleged R1 with caution unless an authorized seller can document stock, warranty and replacement parts.
What to consider instead
eufy Omni S1 Pro
The Omni S1 Pro is the closest apparent continuation of the R1’s roller-mopping philosophy and appears in Anker’s later eufy product material. It may be the most relevant current option for readers attracted to continuous roller cleaning. Do not call it the same machine as the MACH R1 without direct corporate confirmation; the relationship is conceptual based on the available sources.

eufy X10 Pro Omni
Eufy itself identifies the X10 Pro Omni as an alternative in its MACH-discontinuation guidance. It is a more conventional, currently marketed all-in-one option, but it should not be represented as providing every R1 feature—especially the R1’s cylindrical roller and internal dirty-water concept.

Bottom line for shoppers
For technology watchers, the MACH R1 is worth understanding: its fresh-water roller, dirty-water recovery and turret-free sensing were genuinely distinctive. For buyers, however, a 2023 demonstration is not enough. Choose a currently supported robot with verified regional availability, replacement parts, software updates and independent cleaning results. The eufy Omni S1 Pro is the closest conceptual successor to investigate; the X10 Pro Omni and established Roborock, Ecovacs or Narwal models may be safer choices when support and proven ownership matter more than experimental design.
