The AC Future AI-THt is an announced expandable travel trailer—not a self-driving motorhome—and AC Future’s current product page lists a starting price of $148,000 with estimated delivery in 2026. The company says it expands to more than 360 square feet and combines solar, a high-voltage battery, water recovery and connected features. But essential details such as towing weight, hitch load, final dimensions, warranty and confirmed production deliveries have not been established in the published materials.
That makes the AI-THt an intriguing early-stage housing and RV concept, but not yet a trailer buyers can confidently match to a truck, site or construction plan. Here is what has been announced—and what remains to be verified.
What is the AC Future AI-THt?
The AI-THt is a towable, expandable trailer developed by AC Future with design work by Pininfarina. It is part of the company’s AI Transformer Home lineup, which also includes the stationary AI-THu and the drivable AI-THd. The distinction matters: the AI-THt has no driving cabin and must be towed by a compatible vehicle. It should not be confused with the AI-THd motorhome.
AC Future describes the trailer as fully electric and promotes it for mobile living, remote work, family use, emergency housing and backup power. Its product page lists a patented expansion system, but the detailed engineering, operating limits and final production configuration have not been published in the materials available here. “AI” in the product name is not evidence that the trailer drives itself or includes a general-purpose AI assistant.

The AI Transformer Home concept predates the trailer’s more recent market push: AC Future and Pininfarina introduced an earlier eTH concept at CES 2024. The three-product AI Transformer Home lineup, including the AI-THt, was presented at CES 2025. At CES 2026, AC Future made a further product-to-market announcement and identified the trailer as its first product to market, with initial customer deliveries targeted for the second half of 2026. The company’s current AI-THt page lists estimated delivery in 2026; neither statement by itself confirms that customer deliveries have begun.
Expansion and living space: 360-plus square feet, not a settled 400
The trailer’s central proposition is that it expands from a compact travel profile into a larger, multi-room living space. AC Future’s current product page quotes approximately 360-plus square feet. Earlier CES 2025 material described up to 400 square feet. Those figures differ, so the older maximum should not be treated as the confirmed current production specification.
For a construction-minded buyer, the area figure is only a starting point. The company has not provided enough final detail to assess the layout, usable clearances, room dimensions, storage, sleeping capacity, bathroom arrangement, or how the expanded footprint is measured. Nor does the headline area answer practical site questions: how much clearance the expansion needs on each side, whether deployment requires level ground, how long setup takes, or what happens in wind, snow, ice or debris.
An expandable structure also makes seals, weatherproofing, drainage, mechanical access and emergency retraction important ownership questions. These are questions to resolve before purchase, not evidence of known defects. Ask for production-level drawings, installation instructions, service procedures and a demonstration of both deployment and retraction.

What “smart” means—and what it does not establish
AC Future lists a collection of monitoring and assistance functions, including active hitch monitoring, auto-hitch capability, trailer self-parking, 360-degree trailer rotation, remote monitoring, surround view, blind-spot monitoring, integrated security and trailer-to-home, trailer-to-cloud and trailer-to-trailer connectivity. These could make hitching, positioning and monitoring easier if they work as described in the finished product.
The public descriptions do not establish whether self-parking or rotation is fully autonomous, supervised, or limited to specific conditions. They also do not specify the sensors, software provider, safety redundancy, operating envelope, driver-attention requirements or regulatory status. Treat these as announced features, not proof of autonomous operation. Before relying on them, ask which features ship on the purchased configuration, what conditions they require, and how the trailer can be operated if a sensor, connection or control system fails.

Starlink is named as the connectivity solution, but the product materials do not clearly state whether hardware or an ongoing service plan is included in the price. Satellite internet also depends on regional service, an active plan, power and a sufficiently unobstructed view of the sky; a connectivity feature does not guarantee a usable connection at every campsite or work site.

Solar, battery and off-grid use
The advertised combination—more than 2.3 kW of solar generation, up to 90 kWh of battery storage, charging from DC fast charging or home AC, water recovery and trailer-to-home power—could support extended stays away from conventional hookups. It is not enough to conclude that the AI-THt can operate indefinitely off-grid or keep a home powered for a particular number of hours.
Solar output varies with season, weather, shading, orientation and loads. Battery capacity alone does not reveal usable energy or how long it will support heating, cooling, cooking, lighting, connectivity and other equipment. The published information does not provide the daily energy yield, average or peak consumption, HVAC capacity, cold-weather performance, water storage volumes, recovery rate, charging time, generator compatibility or tested backup duration needed to calculate autonomy.
If off-grid capability is a deciding factor, request measured energy and water data for realistic operating conditions, including hot and cold weather. For home backup, ask which loads can be powered, at what output, for how long, and what equipment or installation is required. Treat “self-sufficient” and “extended off-grid living” as company positioning until those operating figures are available.
Price, delivery and reservations
As of August 18, 2026, the AC Future product page lists a starting price of $148,000 and estimated delivery in 2026. A January 2026 company release gave a starting price of $158,000 and targeted initial customer deliveries for the second half of 2026. The difference is unresolved; check the current written purchase quote and configuration rather than assuming either amount is the final out-the-door price.

The listed starting price does not establish what is included. Confirm taxes, transport, setup, options, hitch hardware, charging equipment, site work, insurance and any recurring connectivity costs. At this price, the AI-THt is a substantial purchase, not an inexpensive alternative to conventional RVs. Its value depends on final build quality, usable area, equipment, support and performance—not the advertised footprint alone.
AC Future’s reservation page has displayed inconsistent interface content, including out-of-stock or wishlist messaging and a January 16, 2025 update date. That is a website-status ambiguity; it does not prove the trailer is canceled or unavailable. Before paying, obtain the reservation agreement and verify whether the deposit is refundable, how it applies to the purchase price, whether it secures a delivery position and what happens if price, specifications or timing change.

The largest practical gap is towing. The available materials do not publish the figures needed to determine whether a particular pickup can tow the AI-THt safely and legally, including dry weight, gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR), hitch weight, axle ratings, braking details, required hitch class, minimum tow-vehicle payload, folded dimensions, turning clearance, tire and suspension specifications, or towing-related charging requirements. Do not buy or upgrade a truck based on promotional imagery or floor-space claims; wait for the trailer’s final weight and towing documentation, then confirm compatibility against the truck’s ratings.

- Production: serial-production status, production volume and verified customer delivery evidence.
- Living arrangements: final floor plan, sleeping capacity and rules that apply to full-time or semipermanent occupancy.
For an expandable trailer, request the emergency manual-retraction procedure and ask how the unit can be made safe and transported if the expansion mechanism fails. Ask about seal inspection, weather exposure limits, repair access and warranty coverage. These questions are especially important if the trailer will be used as housing rather than for occasional trips.
Who might consider it—and who should wait?
The AI-THt may interest buyers seeking a large residential-style space in a towable form, integrated battery and solar systems, connected monitoring, or a design distinct from conventional RVs. It may also appeal to people evaluating temporary or remote housing, but those uses depend on site access, utilities, sanitation, local rules and the final operating specifications.
Remote work hinges on connectivity availability and power. Family use depends on the finished sleeping arrangement, storage, climate control and legal occupancy rules. Emergency or temporary housing adds transport, setup, permitting and sanitation requirements. Long-term placement can trigger zoning, campground, utility, taxation or RV-occupancy restrictions that vary by location. An RV designation does not itself make a unit legal as a permanent dwelling everywhere.
Buyers who need a deliverable trailer now, firm truck-matching data, established service support or independently demonstrated performance should wait for final specifications, a production-unit inspection, warranty terms and evidence of customer deliveries. Buyers comfortable evaluating an early-stage product can follow the announcements, but should treat reservations as a contractual decision—not a substitute for a completed RV.
How it compares with other housing and RV choices
- Conventional luxury travel trailers: typically offer established towing data, layouts and RV service pathways, but not necessarily the AI-THt’s claimed expandable architecture and integrated technology.
- Fifth wheels: can provide substantial interior space and familiar layouts, but require a suitable truck and verified payload and towing capacity.
- Electric or hybrid trailers: may offer some power or efficiency features with less space or complexity; compare actual usable capacity, weight and service support.
- Stationary modular homes or ADUs: may suit permanent placement better, but are not designed for routine travel and still require site, utility and permitting work.
- Drivable RVs: avoid needing a separate tow vehicle, but add a motorized powertrain and its maintenance. The AI-THd is AC Future’s separate drivable model.
AC Future lists design and innovation awards for the AI-THt, including a 2026 CES Innovation Award for Vehicle Technology and design recognition. Such recognition can speak to design or innovation; it does not demonstrate road or electrical certification, production readiness, durability, delivery performance or customer satisfaction. The company’s January 2026 announcement is useful for understanding the company’s stated launch plans, but those remain company claims until supported by production and delivery evidence.
