1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThe Innovia Countertop Touchless Paper Towel Dispenser is a clever product with a narrow use case. It can dispense a full or half sheet without touching the roll, it keeps the paper towel enclosed, and it can run on four D batteries or a 5V AC adapter. For messy prep work, raw meat handling, or a household that strongly prefers touchless fixtures, that convenience is real.
Our contractor’s verdict is more cautious: it solves a hygiene problem but creates a counter-space problem. At roughly 7.5 inches by 10 inches by 16 inches and about 4.25 pounds in commonly reported listings, this is not a small accessory. It is closer to leaving another countertop appliance out full time. In a kitchen remodel, where homeowners may spend $3,138 on average for countertop replacement and $15,000 to $75,000 or more on the full kitchen, giving prime prep space to a single-use dispenser deserves scrutiny.
If you rent, cannot drill into cabinets, or need a portable hands-free paper towel solution, the Innovia countertop model may make sense. If you are planning a finished kitchen, especially one with quartz, stone, butcher block, or a tight island layout, we would usually plan towel access into the cabinetry, underside of an upper cabinet, or a designated utility zone instead.
What the Innovia Countertop Dispenser Is
The Innovia countertop unit is a freestanding automatic paper towel dispenser designed for household kitchens. Innovia positions its product line around touchless kitchen convenience. The countertop version is the portable option compared with the brand’s under-cabinet model.
The basic idea is simple: load a household paper towel roll inside the housing, wave near the sensor, and the dispenser advances a sheet. It can dispense full or half sheets, and unused towel can retract back into the unit. That enclosed design is one of its better features because the roll is not sitting exposed next to sink splash, food prep, or a cooktop.

Reported retail pricing has commonly landed around $100 to $120 depending on color and availability, with black sometimes cited around $100 and gray or white around $120. Current online pricing can shift quickly, especially through Amazon and third-party sellers, so confirm the day-of-purchase price before treating that number as fixed.
Typical published dimensions are about 7.5 inches wide, 10 inches deep, and 16 inches tall. Another listing reports dimensions around 40.6 by 19.1 centimeters, with an item weight of 2.56 kilograms. The practical takeaway is the same either way: this is a tall, visible countertop object, not a low-profile paper towel holder.
The Contractor’s Lens: Counter Space Is Not Free
On our job sites, we treat clear counter space as one of the most valuable parts of a kitchen. Homeowners notice cabinet color first, but they live with prep space every day. A beautiful countertop that is constantly crowded by appliances, charging cords, mail, and single-use gadgets stops functioning like a work surface.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →The Innovia countertop dispenser asks for roughly 75 square inches of footprint if you use the 7.5 by 10 inch spec. In real use, the space cost is larger. You need clearance to load the roll, room for the towel to dispense, space behind or beside the unit for a cord if using AC power, and enough distance from sink splash, cooktop heat, and counter edges.
In a remodel, 75 to 160 square inches of usable landing space can be the difference between a comfortable coffee station and a crowded one, or between a practical prep zone and a counter that always feels one appliance too full. That matters even more in older kitchens with 24-inch-deep base cabinets, compact condos, galley layouts, and islands where every inch is doing work.
Before buying one, we recommend a 48-hour painter’s-tape test. Tape out a rectangle about 7.5 by 10 inches where the dispenser would sit. Add a cord path if you expect to plug it in. Then cook normally, unload the dishwasher, open nearby appliance doors, make coffee, and clean up after dinner. If the taped-off area annoys you after two days, the actual dispenser will annoy you more.
Where It Helps
The strongest argument for the Innovia countertop dispenser is hands-free access. If you are handling raw chicken, breading fish, cracking eggs, trimming meat, or dealing with sticky dough, touching a standard roll holder can transfer mess to the holder, the roll, or the surrounding counter. A wave-to-dispense system can reduce that contact.

It can also help households that already use touchless faucets, touchless soap dispensers, and trash cans with motion lids. In that kind of kitchen, the dispenser fits an established routine. The half-sheet option is useful because many cleanup tasks do not require a full towel, and wasted paper adds up fast in a busy household.
The enclosed roll is another legitimate advantage. A standard open paper towel roll near the sink can catch splash, especially if it sits between the sink and the dishwasher. In a home where paper towels are used frequently for food prep, kids’ spills, or pet messes, keeping the roll covered is not a bad idea.
Battery operation is useful when the best towel location does not have a nearby outlet. Four D batteries add cost and weight, but they may allow cleaner placement than a visible cord crossing a backsplash or running near a wet area.
Where It Falls Short
The problem is not that the Innovia countertop dispenser fails at its core job. The problem is that it performs a small job while demanding a large permanent presence. In a new or recently remodeled kitchen, the visual impact can be out of proportion to the benefit.

The unit is plastic, and common finishes include white, gray, and black. Those colors can be acceptable in a casual kitchen, but they may clash with panel-ready appliances, custom cabinet hardware, stone counters, unlacquered brass, matte black plumbing fixtures, or a carefully selected appliance suite. High-end kitchens often look best when small utilities are concealed, mounted cleanly, or grouped into a planned appliance zone.
There is also maintenance. Batteries need replacement, and good D alkaline batteries often run roughly $8 to $15 for a 4-pack. If you use the AC adapter, you have a cord to manage. Compatible replacement 5V AC/DC adapters have been listed around $17 to $18 through third-party sellers, before any shipping. A lost cord is not catastrophic, but it is another small operating cost attached to a product that is supposed to simplify the kitchen.

Roll fit can be another friction point. The product is described as working with most household paper towel brands and sheet sizes, but “most” is not the same as every jumbo, mega, specialty, or unusually perforated roll. If your household buys whatever bulk pack is cheapest that month, expect occasional compatibility quirks.
Cost Comparison: Dispenser vs Better Remodel Options
The countertop Innovia is not expensive compared with a kitchen remodel, but it is expensive compared with simpler paper towel storage. The better question is not “Can I afford it?” The better question is “Is this the best use of space and money for how this kitchen works?”
| Option | Typical 2026 Cost | Space Impact | Best Fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Innovia countertop touchless dispenser | About $100-$120, plus batteries or adapter replacement if needed | Uses roughly 7.5 x 10 in. of counter area and stands about 16 in. tall | Renters, no-drill situations, households that strongly want touchless dispensing |
| Manual countertop holder | About $10-$40 | Small footprint, visible roll | Budget kitchens, temporary setups, utility spaces |
| Premium wall or under-cabinet holder | About $25-$75 | Keeps counter clearer, requires mounting | Finished kitchens where simple access matters more than automation |
| Innovia under-cabinet touchless dispenser | Varies by retailer; typically more involved than a manual holder | Frees counter surface but uses cabinet underside and may need nearby power | Homeowners who want touchless operation without countertop clutter |
| Pullout cabinet or integrated towel storage | Often part of cabinet package; cost varies with cabinetry line and hardware | Concealed, preserves counters, requires planning | Kitchen remodels, custom cabinetry, high-end layouts |
For context, countertop replacement alone is commonly reported around $3,138 on average in the United States, with many projects ranging from about $1,851 to $4,453. Material pricing varies widely: laminate may run about $20 to $60 per square foot, quartz about $40 to $100 per square foot, granite or marble about $70 to $230 per square foot, butcher block about $30 to $280 per square foot, and stainless steel about $50 to $250 per square foot.
When a homeowner spends that kind of money on uninterrupted surface area, our job is to protect the function of that surface. A $120 dispenser can still be the wrong choice if it permanently occupies the most useful section of a $5,000 counter installation.
Placement: Where This Dispenser Should and Should Not Go
The best paper towel location follows wet hands and messy work. In most kitchens, that means the sink, dishwasher unload path, and primary prep zone. The wrong location is wherever an outlet happens to be easiest.
Near the Sink
A sink-adjacent location is convenient, but it raises splash and cord concerns. If the unit is plugged in, the receptacle should be GFCI-protected where required, and the cord should not run through a wet zone. The dispenser housing still needs cleaning, even if the towel dispensing is touchless.

Island placement can work if the island is the true prep zone, but cords become more visible and more hazardous. Families with children should treat cord routing as a safety issue, especially near seating overhangs where a dangling cord can be pulled. Recent code changes have also shifted how kitchen island and peninsula receptacles are planned, so outlet placement should be discussed early in any remodel rather than improvised after the stone is installed.
Under Upper Cabinets
The countertop model’s 16-inch height can feel bulky under wall cabinets, especially where uppers are mounted low or where small appliances already sit below them. Measure vertical clearance before buying. A dispenser that technically fits but crowds the backsplash can make the counter harder to wipe down.
Coffee Stations and Appliance Garages
These are usually poor locations unless paper towels are used there constantly. A coffee station already needs room for mugs, grinder, beans, filters, syrup bottles, and cleanup. Adding a tall single-use dispenser often makes the area look crowded.
Power, GFCI, and Code Notes
The Innovia countertop dispenser can run on four D batteries or from an AC adapter. Battery mode gives you more placement flexibility, but it adds recurring cost and weight. Corded mode avoids battery replacement but introduces electrical planning.
In kitchens, receptacles near countertops are commonly GFCI-protected because of the risk of water exposure. During remodel planning, outlet locations should be coordinated with the sink, dishwasher, range, island, peninsula, backsplash material, and small appliance use. Adding or relocating a kitchen receptacle is not the same as plugging in a lamp in a living room.
Permit rules vary by jurisdiction, but electrical changes in kitchens often require a permit, inspection, or licensed electrician. If the dispenser leads you to add an outlet, move an outlet, cut into a backsplash, fish wire through a cabinet, or alter island power, that is pro territory. A small gadget should not be the reason a kitchen ends up with unsafe cord routing or an unpermitted electrical workaround.

For a corded dispenser near a sink, we look for a short, controlled cord path, no contact with hot surfaces, no pinch points at drawers or appliance doors, and no cord hanging over an island seating area. If that cannot be done cleanly, use batteries or choose a different towel solution.
When to DIY vs When to Hire a Pro
Buying and using the countertop Innovia is a DIY decision. Loading a roll, installing batteries, plugging in the adapter, and testing the sensor are normal homeowner tasks. The painter’s-tape footprint test is also a simple DIY step and should happen before the purchase if counter space is tight.
Mounting a basic under-cabinet holder can also be DIY if you are comfortable measuring, drilling pilot holes, and fastening into the correct cabinet material. Use short fasteners that will not punch through the cabinet floor, and check what is stored inside the cabinet before drilling.
Hire a pro when the decision touches finished cabinetry, tile, stone, electrical work, or integrated storage. That includes adding an outlet, moving an outlet, routing power through a cabinet, drilling into a tile backsplash, modifying a panel, or adding a cabinet pullout. Mistakes in those areas are expensive. A cracked backsplash tile, damaged cabinet floor, or poorly placed outlet can cost far more than the dispenser itself.
During a kitchen remodel, towel storage should be discussed with the same seriousness as trash pullouts, spice storage, tray dividers, and small appliance placement. It sounds minor until the kitchen is finished and the paper towel roll has nowhere sensible to live.

If you are already remodeling, the countertop Innovia should not be your default. It is a workaround product. Sometimes workarounds are useful, but a remodel gives you the chance to solve the problem at the layout level.

Under-Cabinet Touchless Dispenser
If touchless dispensing is the priority, an under-cabinet model is usually a better fit because it preserves counter surface. It still needs a suitable cabinet underside, proper fasteners, clearance for towel dispensing, and a clean power plan if corded. It is not invisible, but it is less disruptive than a 16-inch-tall countertop unit.
Simple Under-Cabinet or Wall-Mounted Holder
A manual under-cabinet holder is often the best value. For $25 to $75, you can get a sturdy holder that keeps towels off the counter and avoids batteries, sensors, motors, and adapters. In many kitchens, that is the most durable solution.
Pullout Cabinet Storage
For custom or semi-custom cabinetry, a pullout towel holder can be built into a base cabinet near the sink or prep zone. This keeps the roll hidden but accessible. It works especially well when paired with a trash and recycling pullout, cleaning supply pullout, or sink base organizer.
Washable Towels Plus a Minimal Holder
Many households can reduce paper towel dependence with washable cotton towels near the sink and a simple paper towel holder for occasional messes. If the goal is a cleaner kitchen, fewer disposable towels and fewer countertop gadgets may do more than an automatic dispenser.

Buy the Innovia countertop dispenser if you want touchless dispensing, cannot or do not want to mount anything, and have a generous counter area where the unit will not interfere with prep, sink work, or appliance doors. It is also a reasonable option for renters because it avoids holes in cabinets or backsplash.
It may also make sense in a utility kitchen, basement kitchenette, craft room, laundry room, or garage work area where appearance matters less and hands-free cleanup is useful. In those spaces, the bulky profile is less of a design penalty.

For a busy family kitchen, test the exact location first. If the dispenser sits near the sink, does not crowd the dishwasher path, has a safe power plan, and genuinely gets used every day, the convenience may justify the cost.
Who Should Skip It
Skip the countertop Innovia if you have limited counter depth, a compact galley kitchen, a carefully designed appliance garage, or a minimalist kitchen where every visible object has to earn its place. Also skip it if you already have a standard holder within easy reach and do not often need hands-free dispensing.
It is not the best choice for a high-end remodel unless the homeowner specifically wants it and the design has a planned location for it. A white, gray, or black plastic dispenser can look out of step with custom cabinetry, stone counters, and built-in appliance panels.
We would also avoid it where the only practical power route creates a dangling cord, crosses a wet area, runs near a cooktop, or can be grabbed from island seating. Battery mode can solve some of that, but then you are accepting ongoing battery cost and replacement.
Final Verdict
The Innovia Countertop Touchless Paper Towel Dispenser is useful, but it is not universally kitchen-friendly. At about $100 to $120, it is a premium paper towel holder. At roughly 7.5 by 10 by 16 inches, it is also a permanent countertop appliance. That combination makes sense only when hands-free dispensing matters more than clear prep space.
From a remodeler’s perspective, the better long-term answer is usually under-cabinet, wall-mounted, or cabinet-integrated towel storage. Those options preserve the work surface homeowners pay so much to build. If you are renting or avoiding installation, the countertop Innovia is a fair compromise. If you are designing a kitchen from scratch, plan the towel location into the layout instead of leaving another object on the counter.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Innovia Countertop Touchless Paper Towel Dispenser worth the counter space?
It is worth considering if you need hands-free dispensing and cannot mount anything. For a remodeled kitchen, it often costs too much prep space because it is roughly 7.5 x 10 x 16 inches and stays visible full time.
How much does the Innovia countertop dispenser cost in 2026?
Common cited pricing is about $100-$120 depending on color and retailer availability. Check current pricing before buying because online listings, especially Amazon listings, change frequently.
Does the Innovia dispenser need batteries or an outlet?
It can run on four D batteries or a 5V AC adapter. Batteries improve placement flexibility, while the adapter avoids battery replacement but requires safe cord routing and a nearby receptacle.
Can I use a touchless paper towel dispenser near a kitchen sink?
Yes, but keep the unit and cord away from direct splash zones. If it is plugged in near a kitchen counter or sink, the receptacle should be GFCI-protected where required by code.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteIs an under-cabinet dispenser better than a countertop model?
For most remodels, yes. An under-cabinet dispenser keeps the counter clearer, though it requires suitable mounting space and a clean power plan if it is corded.
Do I need a permit to add an outlet for a paper towel dispenser?
Permit rules vary by location, but kitchen electrical changes often require a permit, inspection, or licensed electrician. Hire a pro if adding or moving a receptacle, especially near sinks, islands, or finished backsplash.
