1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFor most pet owners, the best washing machine is a large-capacity washer with a real hair-management system, an extra-rinse option, steam or allergen settings, and filters you can actually reach and clean. In 2026, the strongest choices are pet-focused top-loaders like the Maytag Pet Pro and Samsung Pet Care models, front-load steam machines with allergen cycles, and premium all-in-one units such as the GE Profile UltraFast Combo with a pet hair mode.
But here is the part many appliance guides skip: pet laundry is harder on the room, not just the washer. Fur moves through lint screens, pump filters, standpipes, traps, dryer ducts, floor drains, and vent lines. A great washer installed in a weak laundry setup can still leave you with clogged drains, odor, vibration, leaks, or a second-floor water claim.
On our residential remodel and laundry-room jobs, we look at the appliance and the space together. The right question is not only, “Which washer removes pet hair?” It is, “Can this laundry area handle muddy towels, pet beds, weekly shedding, extra rinses, vibration, and filter cleaning for the next 10 years?”
Best Washing Machine Features for Pet Owners
If you live with dogs or cats, shop for function before finish color. Brushed navy, black, white, and sapphire blue all look fine on delivery day. What matters after month six is how the machine manages hair, water, odor, and access.

#1 Best Overall
- HELPS REDUCE PET HAIR DURING LAUNDRY: FurZapper is a reusable laundry aid designed to help loosen and remove loose dog and cat hair from washable fabrics as clothing moves through the washer and dryer. Results vary by fabric, hair type, amount of hair, appliance type, and load size.
- LOAD-SIZE GUIDANCE: Use one FurZapper for a small-to-medium load with light or moderate pet hair. Use two for larger loads, bedding, blankets, heavier pet hair, or multiple shedding pets. Do not overload the washer or dryer; laundry and FurZappers must move freely. For multiple pets or heavy hair, use additional FurZappers.
- USE IN WASHER AND DRYER: Place the FurZapper units in the washer with the laundry, then transfer the same units into the dryer. For heavily fur-covered items, remove excess loose fur before washing. Additional treatment or cycles may be required.
- FOR OPTIMAL PERFORMANCE: Do not use fabric softener or dryer sheets because they may coat the FurZapper and reduce tackiness. If needed, clean the FurZapper with a small amount of dish soap, rinse thoroughly, and allow it to regain its tacky surface.
- CARE AND LIMITATIONS: Do not use fabric softener or dryer sheets with FurZapper because they may coat the surface and reduce performance. When needed, wash the discs with dish soap, rinse thoroughly, and allow them to dry on a nonporous drying rack. The product does not permanently trap or store collected hair; loosened hair will move into the dryer lint trap.
The best feature set for pet owners includes a dedicated pet hair cycle or filter, 4.5 to 5.5 cubic feet of capacity, extra rinse or deep fill options, steam or allergen cycles, a sanitary cycle, a washer-clean cycle, and accessible drain pump or hair-filter maintenance. Those features solve different problems. A pet filter catches visible fur. An allergen or steam cycle is more useful for dander, dust mites, and pollen. Extra rinse helps remove detergent residue, odor treatment, and loosened hair from bulky bedding.
Capacity matters because pet laundry is bulky before it is heavy. Washable dog beds, throws, sofa covers, crate pads, towels, and blankets need room to move. A 4.7 cubic foot washer is a practical minimum for many households with one medium or large dog. A 5.3 to 5.5 cubic foot washer gives more breathing room for bedding and family laundry. Even then, very bulky foam-filled pet beds may still belong at a laundromat or may need removable covers washed separately.
Look closely at maintenance access. A pet washer that captures hair is only useful if the filter is simple to remove, rinse, and reinstall. Front-loaders also need gasket cleaning because hair collects in the rubber folds. Top-loaders may be easier to load and wipe down, but some cycles use more water and can be tougher on delicate fabrics.
Best Pet-Friendly Washer Options in 2026
There is no single best washer for every pet household. A family with two shedding dogs and a mudroom has different needs than a condo owner with one cat and limited space. These are the practical categories worth comparing.
Maytag Pet Pro 4.7 cu. ft. Top-Load Washer
The Maytag Pet Pro top-load washer is one of the clearest pet-specific options because it is built around a Pet Pro Filter and Pet Pro option. Maytag says the machine removes 5 times more pet hair when using that filter and option compared with its normal cycle without the feature. Treat that as a manufacturer claim, not a guarantee that every blanket comes out perfect, but the mechanical filter approach is exactly the kind of feature pet owners should prioritize.
At a listed 2026 price around $1,039, it sits in the mainstream premium range rather than the luxury range. The 4.7 cubic foot capacity is large enough for many washable throws, towels, and medium bedding loads. It is also a top-loader, which many homeowners prefer for pet laundry because there is no front gasket to trap wet hair and odor.
Best fit: households that want a dedicated pet-hair washer, easy loading, and a conventional laundry layout. Watch-outs: measure lid clearance under cabinets, and do not assume the pet filter eliminates the need to brush or air-fluff hair-heavy items first.
Samsung 5.4 cu. ft. Top-Load Washer with Pet Care Solution
Samsung’s 5.4 cubic foot top-load washer with Pet Care Solution is a strong option when capacity is the priority. Samsung markets the system as removing 6 times more pet hair using a pet cycle and dual pet hair filters. Again, frame that as a manufacturer claim, but dual filters and a dedicated cycle are useful features for pet-heavy laundry.

Larger loads can move better when they are not overpacked, and pet bedding often needs that extra volume. In 2026, this model has been listed by Samsung around $1,149 before instant savings, with major retailer promotions commonly putting it around $745 to $900.
Best fit: families washing large throws, covers, and frequent pet laundry. Watch-outs: large top-loaders can be deep, so shorter users should check reach to the bottom of the tub before buying.
GE Profile UltraFast Combo with Pet Hair Remover Mode
The GE Profile UltraFast Combo is a premium all-in-one washer-dryer category rather than a standard washer. Its Pet Hair Remover mode is notable because it addresses the reality that dryers often remove loose hair better than washers do. GE’s launch pricing placed the combo around $2,899 MSRP, and premium all-in-one systems commonly list around $2,000 to $2,900 before promotions.

The all-in-one format can be useful where venting is difficult or where homeowners want to wash and dry in the same machine. For pet owners, the value depends on habits. If you run frequent smaller loads and want fewer transfers, it can make sense. If you wash oversized pet bedding and want fast throughput, separate washer and dryer units may still be better.
Best fit: tight spaces, venting challenges, and homeowners willing to pay for convenience. Watch-outs: cycle times, service access, and long-term maintenance should be considered before installing it in a closet with tight clearances.
LG Large-Capacity Steam Washers with Allergiene Cycles
LG’s large-capacity steam washers with Allergiene-style cycles are worth considering for households more concerned with dander, odor, pollen, and bedding hygiene than visible fur capture alone. Steam and allergen cycles do not replace hair filters, but they can be valuable for allergy-sensitive homes.
A 5.5 cubic foot top-load washer with steam, deep wash options, and fast-wash technology gives plenty of capacity for pet households. For visible hair, you will still want a strong dryer lint routine, extra rinse, and regular washer cleaning.
Best fit: allergy-sensitive households and families washing bedding, towels, and washable covers. Watch-outs: confirm whether the specific model has the cycle names and settings you want, because features vary by model number.
Pet Washer Comparison and 2026 Cost Range
Most pet-capable washers cost about $700 to $1,500 for mainstream top-load or front-load machines with pet, allergen, steam, sanitize, or large-capacity features. Premium all-in-one washer-dryer combos with pet hair modes can list around $2,000 to $2,900 before promotions. Delivery, installation, haul-away, hoses, pans, stacking kits, and vent corrections can add real money, so compare the installed cost, not just the appliance sticker.
| Washer Type | Typical 2026 Cost | Best For | Pet Owner Watch-Out |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pet-specific top-load washer | $745-$1,150 | Visible hair, washable throws, easy loading | Still needs filter cleaning and pre-wash hair removal |
| Large steam or allergen washer | $900-$1,500 | Dander, odor, bedding, allergy-sensitive homes | May not have a dedicated pet hair filter |
| Front-load washer with steam | $900-$1,500 | Stain removal, water efficiency, stackable layouts | Gasket and drain pump need regular cleaning |
| Premium all-in-one washer-dryer | $2,000-$2,900 | Vent-limited spaces and fewer load transfers | Longer cycles and service access must be planned |
| Basic installation with existing hookups | $50-$300 | Simple replacement | Costs rise with stairs, pans, stacking, valves, or haul-away |
| New washer/dryer hookups | $650-$2,500 | New laundry location or major remodel | Plumbing, electrical, venting, wall repair, and permits drive cost |
ENERGY STAR-certified clothes washers are also worth a hard look. ENERGY STAR says certified washers use about 20 percent less energy and 30 percent less water than regular washers. Full-size certified models use about 14 gallons per load compared with about 20 gallons for standard machines and can save about $530 over the product lifetime. For pet owners who run frequent bedding and towel loads, that operating cost matters.
Pet Hair Removal Starts Before the Washer
The best washer cannot do its job if every blanket goes into the drum matted with dry fur. Water drives hair deeper into fabric and sends loose debris toward the pump, drain hose, and standpipe. The better routine starts dry.
For heavy shedders, use this sequence: shake or brush items outdoors, run a 10-minute no-heat or air-fluff dryer cycle, clean the lint screen, then wash with the pet cycle or extra rinse. After the wash, clean the washer filter, wipe the gasket if it is a front-loader, and check the dryer lint screen again after drying.

Use high-efficiency detergent correctly. More detergent does not mean cleaner bedding. Too much soap can hold odor, leave residue, and make rinsing harder. For urine, vomit, mud, or body-oil stains, pretreat with an enzyme cleaner that is safe for washable fabric, allow the dwell time recommended by the product, then wash. Avoid overloading. A pet bed cover packed tightly into a washer cannot flex, rinse, or release hair properly.
Top-Load vs Front-Load for Pet Owners
Top-load and front-load washers can both work well for pet households, but they fail in different ways.
Top-loaders are easy to load, familiar to use, and often simpler to wipe down after hairy loads. Pet-specific top-loaders with hair filters are especially practical for households washing blankets, slipcovers, and towels every week. The tradeoff is that some top-load cycles use more water, and aggressive agitation can be harder on fabrics.
Front-loaders are efficient, strong for stain removal, and common in stacked or compact laundry rooms. They usually spin faster, which reduces dryer time. For pet owners, the maintenance burden is the door gasket, drain pump filter, and odor control. Hair can collect in the rubber gasket folds. Moisture can sit behind the seal. If the washer is installed in a tight closet with no room to open the door after use, odor problems become more likely.
If you choose a front-loader, plan for space to leave the door slightly open after loads, access to the drain pump cleanout, and enough clearance to pull the unit forward for service. Many front-loaders need several extra inches behind the unit for hoses, drain routing, and dryer venting. Measure total depth with connections, not just cabinet depth.
The Laundry Room Must Be Ready for Pet Loads
This is where a construction company sees the problem differently than an appliance showroom. A washer that handles pet hair creates more maintenance demand on the laundry room. Before buying, check the physical setup.
Drainage and Standpipe
Modern washer drains need to move water quickly. Many code-compliant installations use a 2-inch drain, and the standpipe must be properly trapped and vented. The International Plumbing Code includes requirements for washing machine connections and standpipe receptor arrangements. In the field, undersized or poorly vented drains show up as gurgling, slow discharge, sewer odor, or overflow during high-volume pump-out.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →If your laundry area has an older 1-1/2 inch drain, repeated pet bedding loads can expose weaknesses. Hair, lint, detergent residue, and mud collect over time. A plumber may recommend replacing sections with a 2-inch line, correcting trap configuration, improving venting, or adding accessible cleanouts.
Electrical and GFCI Protection
Laundry areas need proper electrical protection. Current residential electrical requirements commonly include GFCI protection for laundry receptacles, and many laundry circuits also require AFCI protection depending on local code adoption. A washer usually runs on 120 volts, while many electric dryers require a 240-volt circuit. Gas dryers still need proper electrical service and gas piping.
Do not solve nuisance trips with adapters or unprotected outlets. If a washer trips a breaker repeatedly, the issue could be the appliance, the circuit, moisture, grounding, or load sharing. That is electrician territory.

- MULTI-ACTION MACHINE CARE BOOST: Our upgraded pet hair dissolver for washing machines is designed to help break down pet hair buildup more effectively during high-heat cleaning cycles. Under tested conditions, it helps dissolve up to 96.7% of pet hair while also helping descale residue and deodorize the drum. Now upgraded from 75 g to 100 g per sachet, it delivers more product per use for deeper washer care in pet hair homes.
- DEEP-CLEAN WITH TUB/SELF-CLEAN CYCLE: For best results, add the sachet of this hair dissolving laundry detergent directly to an empty drum and run Self / Tub Clean Mode using the hottest, longest compatible cycle (194°F+). High heat helps activate the hair dissolving laundry detergent formula so it can work more effectively on built-up hair residue, grime, and odor inside the washer.
- GENTLE FORMULA FOR WASHER CARE: Designed as a specialized pet hair dissolver for washing machine care, this formula may also be used on durable, machine-washable pet-care items that are compatible with the recommended wash conditions. Not recommended for cotton, linen, silk, wool, or delicate fabrics prone to fading. Avoid use on items labeled for cold-water wash only to help prevent damage or discoloration.
- FIRST USE DEEP CLEAN: For best results, use 2 sachets for the first application or for heavier buildup, including washer drum deep cleaning. Use 1 sachet for routine washer maintenance. A follow-up rinse cycle may help clear loosened residue after the first use.
- EXTENDED SUPPLY, CONSISTENT RESULTS: Rely on our pet hair dissolver for washing machine care as a simple month-by-month routine, with 6 pre-measured sachets (100g) providing a ready supply for up to half a year so you never run out mid-shed season, supporting steady hair dissolving laundry detergent performance for pet parents who prefer predictable, low-effort maintenance.
Water Shutoffs, Pans, and Leak Control
Pet owners run more loads, and more loads mean more valve use, hose pressure cycles, and leak exposure. We prefer accessible hot and cold shutoffs, braided stainless washer hoses, a drain pan where practical, and a leak detector or automatic shutoff for higher-risk locations.
Second-floor laundry deserves extra attention. A pan and drain may be required or strongly recommended depending on local code and layout. Where a pan drain is not feasible, leak sensors and automatic shutoff valves become more important. Use water-resistant flooring details, sealed transitions, and base trim that can tolerate cleanup.
Vibration, Floor Level, and Access
Large-capacity washers spin heavy, wet loads at high speed. Pet beds and blankets can become unbalanced. On a slab, vibration is usually easier to control. On a second floor, the framing, subfloor, leveling, and anti-vibration details matter.
For upstairs installations, we look at floor stiffness, levelness, pan placement, service clearances, and whether the unit can be pulled without damaging trim or flooring. A stacked pair in a closet may save space, but it can make filter cleaning, valve access, and hose replacement harder. Leave enough room to work.
Dryer Venting
Dryers matter as much as washers for pet hair. A 10-minute air-fluff cycle before washing can pull loose hair into the lint screen. After washing, the dryer handles more lint and hair again. That means the vent path must be short, smooth, properly terminated, and cleaned more often than in a non-pet home.
Recommended Free Tools
Long vent runs, crushed flex duct, too many elbows, or clogged exterior hoods increase drying time and fire risk. If pet blankets take two or three cycles to dry, inspect the lint screen, transition duct, and wall vent before blaming the dryer.

A simple washer swap can be a homeowner task if the hookups are already correct, the valves work, the drain is in good condition, and the appliance can be moved safely. Expect basic installation to run about $50 to $300 if you hire it out, depending on stairs, old-unit removal, haul-away, hoses, pan installation, and stacking hardware.
DIY is reasonable when you are replacing a washer in the same location, using existing hot and cold shutoffs, connecting a new drain hose to a sound standpipe, leveling the unit, and testing for leaks. Replace old rubber hoses with braided stainless hoses, confirm the drain hose is secured correctly, and run a test cycle while watching the valves, hose connections, standpipe, and floor.
Hire licensed trades when you are adding or moving hookups, changing the drain, opening walls, adding a 240-volt dryer circuit, modifying gas piping, correcting venting, installing a pan drain, or placing laundry on a second floor. New washer and dryer hookups commonly cost about $650 to $2,500, with national-average figures around $1,200. Costs climb when the project includes finished-wall repair, long vent routing, electrical panel work, slab conditions, crawlspace work, cabinetry, HOA or condo approvals, and permit inspections.

New plumbing, electrical, gas, or dryer vent work often requires a permit. The exact requirement depends on the city or county building department and the adopted code cycle. If you are changing the location of the laundry room, assume permit review may be involved until a local official or licensed contractor tells you otherwise.
What We Would Choose for Different Pet Homes
For one dog or cat in a standard laundry room, a 4.7 to 5.0 cubic foot washer with extra rinse, self-clean, and easy filter access is usually enough. If visible fur is the main complaint, choose a pet-specific top-loader over a generic washer with only a large drum.

- Reusable & Cost Saving: Dog hair remover for laundry balls provide a reusable alternative to disposable sheets. Use them again and again to help reduce waste and avoid frequently replacing sticky lint rollers. Suitable for clothes, blankets, towels, sheets, and pet bedding
- Easy to Use: Dryer balls for pet hair work in both the washer and dryer with everyday laundry. Place all 12 balls into each load for better coverage, especially with larger or hairier loads. Not recommended for wool sweaters, knitwear, plush garments, or loosely woven delicate fabrics
For two or more heavy shedders, prioritize a dedicated pet hair cycle, a cleanable filter, and at least 5.0 cubic feet of capacity. The Samsung 5.4 cubic foot Pet Care model and Maytag Pet Pro are both aimed squarely at this use case. Add a dryer routine and vent maintenance schedule, because the washer should not be the only hair-control tool.
For allergy-sensitive households, look beyond hair. Pet dander is smaller than visible fur. A washer with steam, allergen, sanitary, and extra-rinse cycles may be a better fit than a hair-focused machine alone. Wash bedding frequently, avoid overloading, and clean gaskets and filters so the machine does not become an odor source.
For condos, closets, and tight laundry spaces, measure depth with hoses and venting included. If venting is limited, a premium all-in-one unit with a pet hair mode may be worth considering, but make sure you understand cycle times, electrical needs, service clearances, and warranty support.
For second-floor laundry, we would spend part of the budget on the room: pan, leak detection, accessible shutoffs, vibration control, reinforced or level flooring where needed, and water-resistant finishes. A $1,100 washer sitting over a finished ceiling deserves more protection than a basic hose connection and hope.
Bottom Line
The best washing machine for pet owners in 2026 is a pet-capable, large-capacity washer matched to the way your household actually does laundry. Maytag and Samsung offer the clearest pet-hair-focused top-load options. GE’s premium all-in-one combo is interesting where space or venting is the problem. LG steam and allergen models make sense where dander, odor, and bedding hygiene matter most.
Do not buy on a pet-hair claim alone. Buy for filter access, capacity, rinse control, cleaning cycles, service clearance, and the laundry room behind the machine. A washer can remove a lot of hair, but the drain, vent, floor, valves, and electrical system have to live with the rest of it.

What is the best washing machine for pet hair in 2026?
For visible pet hair, the strongest choices are dedicated pet-hair top-load washers such as the Maytag Pet Pro 4.7 cu. ft. model and Samsung 5.4 cu. ft. Pet Care Solution model. Both use manufacturer-claimed pet hair systems, but the best choice depends on capacity, filter access, and your laundry-room setup.
Do pet hair washing machines really work?
They can help, especially when they use a dedicated filter and pet cycle, but they are not magic. For best results, shake or brush items outdoors, run a 10-minute no-heat dryer cycle before washing, clean the lint screen, use the pet or extra-rinse cycle, and clean washer filters regularly.
Is a top-load or front-load washer better for pet owners?
Top-load pet washers are often easier for hair-heavy loads because they avoid a front gasket and may include built-in pet filters. Front-loaders are efficient and strong on stains, but pet owners must clean the gasket, door glass, and drain pump filter more often.
How do I keep pet hair from clogging my washing machine?
Remove loose hair while items are dry, use the dryer air-fluff trick before washing, avoid overloading, run extra rinse when needed, and clean the washer filter or gasket after hairy loads. Dryer vents, lint screens, standpipes, and pump filters should be inspected more often in pet homes.
Do I need a permit to add or move a washer and dryer hookup?
Often, yes. New or relocated plumbing, electrical, gas, or dryer vent work commonly requires a permit, but rules vary by city and county. Check with the local building department or hire licensed trades before opening walls or adding circuits.
Should second-floor laundry rooms have a drain pan or leak detector?
Yes, second-floor laundry rooms should be treated as higher risk. A drain pan may be required or recommended, and leak detectors or automatic shutoff valves are smart upgrades. Floor level, vibration control, water-resistant flooring, and accessible shutoffs also matter.
