A giant Beyblade arena can be made on a desktop 3D printer, but not usually as one piece. In a build reported by Hackaday on August 9, 2025, LeftBurst built an anime-inspired arena from sections modeled by Buddha, joined them with super glue, then used primer, putty and power sanding to smooth the surface. The project reportedly played well; its most transferable lesson is that getting the geometry printed is only the start. Aligned seams, consistent curvature and a durable finish determine whether a large printed bowl works as a playing surface.
What the featured build shows
The project aimed to create a much larger, more anime-like battle space than a typical retail stadium. The arena was split into printable sections, assembled with super glue and extensively finished. Hackaday reported that it played successfully after this work.
The published report does not establish the arena’s final dimensions, number of sections, printer, filament, print settings, total material or build time. It also does not identify the Beyblade generation it was designed for or establish that the exact model files are publicly available. Those details matter: this is a useful project report, not a complete set of plans that can be reproduced by copying a known printer profile.

“Giant” is relative. Separate downloadable designs illustrate the range without describing the Hackaday arena: one advertises 23 inches of play space and 14 printed parts (23-inch design); another offers 70 cm and 80 cm versions specifically for Metal Fight Beyblades (Metal Fight design). These are separate models, not specifications for LeftBurst’s build.

Why print a large arena in sections?
A desktop printer’s usable build area limits the size of any single component. Splitting a stadium into sections makes it possible to print a broad bowl on a smaller machine and makes an individual damaged section potentially replaceable. It can also make large parts easier to orient, support and remove.
That convenience shifts difficulty to assembly. A slight mismatch in angle, height or curvature can leave a ridge where sections meet. More sections mean more joins to align, bond and finish. A warped segment may fit around the perimeter while still creating a bump across the play surface. The critical construction problem is therefore not simply making the parts fit together; it is making the assembled interior behave like one continuous bowl.
Joining sections: what is confirmed and what to consider
Hackaday reports that LeftBurst used super glue. It does not say whether the arena also used pins, tabs, screws, magnets or reinforcement, or how the joints held up over extended play. Super glue is a confirmed choice in this build, not proof that it is sufficient for every large arena or material.

- Butt joints: Simple and compact, but they depend on closely fitting edges and a well-aligned bond.
- Printed pins or dowels: Can help keep adjoining sections in position while joining, provided the holes and pins are accurately sized.
- Tabs and slots: Offer mechanical alignment, but poorly placed features can create raised transitions or concentrate stress.
- Bolted joints: Can be taken apart for repair, at the cost of hardware, access and extra design work.
- Magnets: Can support removable modules, but should not be assumed to secure impact-loaded sections on their own. Loose or accessible magnets also present a safety concern around children.
For any method, dry-fit the complete assembly before bonding. Check the inside face with a straightedge or by running a fingertip across each joint; a seam that looks small from outside can still catch a top. If the joint flexes, surface filler may disguise the gap but will not necessarily reinforce it.
Why finishing makes the arena playable
Layer lines, glue squeeze-out, uneven edges and gaps can interrupt a spinning top’s path. Even a modest ridge may redirect a top or make its motion inconsistent. The reported build used primer, putty and power sanding to address surface defects. That sequence highlights the difference between a part that can be printed and an assembled surface that is fit for play.
- Check the whole playing surface: Aim for continuous curvature and flush transitions, not just a polished-looking center.
- Keep repairs durable: A thick layer of filler over a flexible joint can crack under repeated impacts. Treat filling as surface correction unless the joint itself has been designed to carry the load.
- Remove hazards: There should be no sharp edges, loose filler, brittle coating or debris that can detach during play.
- Test before decorating: Battle testing can reveal snags and friction changes that paint or graphics would not fix.
- Follow product labels: Primer, filler, sanding dust and uncured coatings require appropriate handling and ventilation; keep children away during finishing.
The reported workflow is primer, putty and power sanding, but the coverage does not identify product brands, grit sequence or coating system. A maker should choose compatible products for the printed material and follow their manufacturers’ curing and safety directions rather than infer a specific recipe from the project report.

How to plan a similar build
The following is a practical workflow for a new project, not a claim that every step was used in LeftBurst’s build. The only directly reported construction details are segmented printing, super-glue assembly, primer, putty, power sanding and successful play as reported by Hackaday.

Choose the Beyblade generation and the tops the arena must accommodate before selecting a model. Systems differ in top construction, launcher behavior and stadium geometry. Hasbro’s documentation describes different top components and categories; it does not establish that one custom bowl suits every system. A model expressly designed for Metal Fight, for example, should not be presumed to give intended results with Beyblade X or Burst.
Set the play area, wall height, pockets and curvature for the intended use. Do not treat a design’s advertised overall diameter as a guaranteed playable area; check what its stated dimension measures.

2. Check the files and printer fit
Before printing a full kit, verify each part against the printer’s usable build volume, including orientation and any tabs that extend beyond the nominal body. A separate model listing notes that its joining tabs need about 220 mm in one direction; that is a requirement for that model only, not a general size for giant arenas (model listing).
- Look for explicit dimensions, part count, orientation and support guidance.
- Check for alignment features, assembly instructions, hardware requirements and photos of completed prints.
- Confirm that the stated Beyblade generation matches your intended tops.
- Check the file’s license for your intended personal or commercial use.
- Print a small test section or critical joint first, then confirm fit before committing to the full set.
3. Print consistently and keep parts organized
Use the same material and slicer settings across mating sections where possible, and label parts as they come off the printer. Consistency helps limit differences in fit and surface behavior. Large, thin pieces can warp; a segment that has cooled unevenly may be difficult to align even if its dimensions appear close.

A general 3D-printing guide characterizes PLA as forgiving to print and PETG as more durable but potentially less pleasant to finish (material guidance). That does not establish which material was used in the Hackaday project or which is right for every stadium. Consider the expected impact, printer capability and finishing process.

4. Assemble, finish and validate
- Dry-fit every section and check alignment, curvature and seam height across the assembled interior.
- Bond only after the fit is satisfactory; use a fixture, clamps or tape if needed to hold parts in position while the adhesive cures.
- Inspect the bonded assembly for flex, gaps and raised edges. Do not rely on filler to compensate for a structurally weak joint.
- Fill surface defects, prime to reveal remaining imperfections and sand until transitions are consistent. Repeat where necessary, following the product labels.
- Test with the actual tops and launchers intended for use. Watch for seam snags, unexpected changes in travel and movement of the arena itself.
- Inspect joints and surface after repeated battles; repair cracks or loose material before the next session.
What determines whether it will play well?
- Surface continuity: Curvature should transition smoothly from section to section, without ridges or abrupt dips.
- Top compatibility: Performance depends on the Beyblade generation, top shape and intended stadium geometry. A claim that a custom arena works with every generation needs evidence, not assumption.
- Joint integrity: Impact and vibration can loosen bonds or crack filler. The long-term durability of the featured build’s seams is not documented in the Hackaday report.
- Friction and finish: A coating or repair can change how tops move. Test the intended surface rather than assuming a visually smooth finish has consistent behavior.
- Containment and stability: A larger arena may allow tops to travel farther, but a large open bowl is not automatically safer or more contained than a commercial stadium.
Testing should use the actual combinations intended for play. A surface that works with lightweight plastic tops may not withstand more aggressive or metal-heavy tops; the available project report does not establish performance across top types.
Printable designs and alternatives
There are other routes to a large play space, but their specifications belong to their own designs. One free arena listing specifies a 0.3 mm layer height, at least 15% Lightning infill, no support or brim, and eight 6×3 mm magnets plus four 10×3 mm magnets (magnetic arena listing). Those are the designer’s requirements for that file, not recommended settings for the Hackaday build. Embedded magnets need secure placement and careful handling, especially around children.
If printing the whole bowl is impractical, a hybrid approach can use printed geometry for selected curved parts and sheet material or wood for a base or outer structure. A smaller modular arena can reduce print time, material, seam length, storage demands and warping risk. A custom sheet-material build trades access to complex printed geometry for more manual fabrication.

A custom printed arena offers more freedom in scale and appearance, but requires design evaluation, assembly, finishing and safety checks. A digital file is not a finished, tested product, and the featured Hackaday article does not establish where to download LeftBurst’s exact model.
Safety before play
Hasbro’s Beyblade instructions warn users not to lean over the stadium and not to use it on an elevated surface, because tops can bounce out and strike the face or eyes (product safety instructions). Apply that caution to a custom arena as well; do not assume its walls provide the containment of a tested commercial stadium.
- Set the arena on the floor or another stable, low surface.
- Keep faces and eyes out of the launch path; eye protection is prudent when testing a low-wall or open design.
- Check glued seams, filled areas and the base before each session.
- Keep children away from uncured primer or putty, sanding dust, solvents and loose magnets.
- Stop play if a section cracks, shifts or sheds material.

Choose a custom build when the scale or shape is the point of the project and you are prepared to validate its surface and structure. Choose a commercial stadium when predictable setup and minimal fabrication matter more than a custom anime-inspired footprint.
