Una prensa francesa sirve para preparar café caliente, cold brew y té de hojas sueltas. Para el café caliente, Bodum recomienda café de molienda gruesa, agua a 92–96 °C y cuatro minutos de infusión; su receta de cold brew usa agua filtrada a temperatura ambiente y un reposo de 12–24 horas.
1. Preparar café caliente
La prensa francesa prepara café por inmersión: los granos molidos permanecen en contacto con el agua y el filtro del émbolo separa los sólidos al final. Bodum recomienda esta receta para café caliente:
- Añade café de molienda gruesa a la jarra.
- Vierte agua a 92–96 °C (195–205 °F), remueve y deja infusionar durante cuatro minutos.
- Baja el émbolo suavemente y sirve el café de inmediato. Si permanece en la jarra, seguirá extrayéndose y puede volverse amargo.
Estas proporciones de temperatura y tiempo son las indicaciones publicadas por Bodum en su catálogo de métodos de preparación de café de 2025 y su guía de preparación; no son una regla universal para cada café o gusto. Un molinillo ajustable permite obtener molienda gruesa, aunque también puedes comprar café ya molido.

No necesitas una máquina distinta: Bodum indica que puedes preparar cold brew en una prensa francesa. Su receta publicada consiste en:

- Colocar café de molienda gruesa en la jarra y añadir agua filtrada a temperatura ambiente.
- Mezclar, tapar y dejar infusionar entre 12 y 24 horas, a temperatura ambiente o en el refrigerador.
- Presionar el émbolo y servir.
El intervalo de 12–24 horas corresponde a la receta de Bodum, no a un tiempo obligatorio para todas las recetas. Consulta las instrucciones de Bodum para ver su método.
3. Infusionar té de hojas sueltas
Una prensa también puede mantener las hojas sueltas en el agua y separarlas al bajar el émbolo. Bodum presenta su prensa francesa portátil de 15 oz como apta para preparar té suelto. No hay un único tiempo de infusión indicado para todos los tés: sigue las instrucciones del tipo de té que uses y presiona cuando termine de infusionarse.

Qué tener en cuenta al elegir una prensa
Si vas a comparar modelos, fíjate en la capacidad y los materiales de la jarra, el marco, la tapa y el conjunto de filtro y émbolo. La página de la CHAMBORD consultada describe una jarra de vidrio borosilicato, marco y tapa de acero inoxidable, y émbolo de acero inoxidable. En esa página, las «tazas» europeas equivalen aproximadamente a 4 oz cada una. Estas características describen el producto; no constituyen una prueba comparativa de durabilidad o rendimiento.
Elige según lo que te guste beber
La National Coffee Association resume bien la elección: el mejor método es el que produce el café que más disfrutas. La prensa francesa te permite preparar café caliente o cold brew y también usarla para té de hojas sueltas; elige el método y el tiempo según la bebida que quieras.
