As of September 28, 2026, the Tennessee Titans and Cleveland Browns are building new stadiums; the Washington Commanders have named a builder and anticipate starting construction in spring 2027. The Kansas City Chiefs have released renderings with a 2031 opening target, while the Denver Broncos are still in planning, with construction expected to begin in 2027 or 2028. Those dates are targets, not guarantees, and the projects are at very different stages.

What is distinctive about each stadium project?
Tennessee Titans: an enclosed venue built for more than football
The Titans describe an enclosed stadium with improved sightlines, exterior terraces and porches, panoramic views, and sustainable materials. The schedule has several milestones, not one interchangeable opening date: team president and CEO Burke Nihill said in March 2026 that completion was scheduled for February 2027, a first ticketed event was on track for mid-to-late April, and the team’s first game would come later in 2027. These remain projections.
According to the team’s FAQ, financing includes Titans, NFL, and personal seat license (PSL) sales; stadium and campus sales taxes; a one-percent increase in Davidson County’s hotel/motel tax; and a state contribution. The team says property taxes are not part of the financing plan. Nashville’s selection to host Super Bowl LXIV in 2030, confirmed in a May 2026 team report, is an example of the major-event role the venue is intended to serve, not a guarantee that every planned event will proceed as scheduled. At the July 30, 2026 construction update, the Browns reported excavation 80 feet into the ground and said 70 percent of fan seating would be below ground level. The team describes a translucent roof intended to bring in natural light and an enclosed venue for year-round activations. Its April 2026 groundbreaking announcement called the project Ohio’s first enclosed stadium and described a long-span roof without a truss.

Washington Commanders: the stadium is one part of the RFK campus deal
The Commanders’ plan pairs the proposed stadium with housing, hotels, restaurants, entertainment, green space, and recreation on the former RFK campus. The team and District announcement projects 5,000–6,000 housing units, with at least 30 percent affordable. It also projects $4 billion in total tax revenue and more than $15.6 billion in direct spending over 30 years; these are projected impacts, not realized results.

The same announcement specifies at least $2.7 billion in Commanders-driven investment for the stadium and related improvements, a $500 million District contribution for horizontal and non-vertical stadium costs, a $175 million revenue bond for parking, and up to $181 million from Events DC for parking garages near recreation facilities. These are deal terms reported by the team, not an independent audit of the full campus cost. Congress passed the legislation for the RFK campus in December 2024, and it was signed in January 2025. The Chiefs’ July 2026 renderings and 2031 target show an active project, but the available official updates describe a less advanced construction picture than the Titans’ or Browns’. In January 2026, the team named Kansas City-area firms MANICA and Populous as finalists for lead designer; that announcement did not establish a final designer. The project hub also lists an August 31, 2026 real-estate development joint venture announcement, placing stadium planning within a broader district effort. Do not read the opening target as a construction schedule.

Denver Broncos: planning for Burnham Yard, with a construction window
The Broncos’ February 2026 Community Information Meeting schedule anticipated stadium, site, and infrastructure design beginning in 2026 and continuing into 2027. It put the expected construction start in 2027 or 2028, without setting a final opening year. The schedule is a planning document, not confirmation that approvals, site arrangements, or later project milestones are complete.
Why the Chicago Bears are a watch item, not one of the five
The Bears are actively pursuing a new stadium in Hammond, Indiana, but their August 13, 2026 update had not settled the exact site or announced a groundbreaking date. The team said it had completed due diligence on the Lost Marsh site and was evaluating a second location at Wolf Lake Terminal; the two sites might be combined. A June 2026 board vote advanced a Hammond stadium development project, but also left the exact site to be selected.

The Bears said they would commit $2 billion of their own money to build the stadium while seeking infrastructure funding. Team president and CEO Kevin Warren called Hammond the organization’s “sole focus” at that point. Chairman George H. McCaskey said the team would remain the Chicago Bears whether located in Arlington Heights or Hammond. Because a site and construction timetable were still unresolved, the Bears fit an active-pursuit watch list better than a roundup focused on projects with firmer schedules. What to watch as these projects advance
- Schedule changes: The published opening years for the Titans, Browns, Commanders, and Chiefs are targets; the Broncos’ cited schedule gives a construction window rather than an opening date.
- Project stage: A project with a rendering or selected builder is not equivalent to a stadium under construction. Follow each team’s dated updates for approvals, construction starts, and milestone changes.
- Public and private funding: The figures above come from teams or project announcements and are not comparable independent cost audits. The Commanders’ figures cover specified stadium and campus items, while the Titans’ cited FAQ lists funding sources without a comparable full amount.
- Location: Cleveland’s Brook Park stadium is outside the current Cleveland lakefront site, while the Commanders’ proposed venue is on the RFK campus. The Bears’ Hammond pursuit would place a stadium in Indiana, though the team says its name would remain unchanged.
