Kmart Australia lists its Anko Slushie Maker – Black for A$179, compared with A$499.99 for Ninja’s Australian SLUSHi Professional FS301 listing. Both use compressor cooling for frozen drinks, but the Anko is a cheaper alternative—not a proven performance match. It has a 1.6-litre maximum normal fill and a 12-month warranty; Ninja offers a 1.9-litre maximum fill and a two-year warranty. Check Kmart’s live listing for local stock, since reports of sell-outs date to October 2025.
What is the Kmart Anko Slushie Maker?
The product is the Anko Slushie Maker – Black, Kmart SKU P_43610235. Kmart lists it at A$179 for household use. Its built-in compressor chills and agitates liquid in the vessel, so it makes frozen drinks without relying on ice to chill and dilute them. The manufacturer lists six presets: ice cream, frozen cocktail, slushie, frappe, frozen juice and milkshake.
The vessel holds 2 litres, but the maximum normal fill is 1.6 litres; the ice-cream maximum is 1 litre. The minimum fill is 0.5 litre. The Australian comparison is with Ninja SLUSHi Professional model FS301, not a model whose specifications are drawn from another market. At the listed prices below, Ninja costs A$320.99 more. That price difference does not establish equal or unequal results: the available product specifications do not compare cooling time, texture, noise, cleaning or long-term reliability under controlled conditions.

These prices are the figures on the cited Australian listings, not a guarantee of today’s price. Ninja’s larger working capacity is a 0.3-litre difference at maximum fill, not a fivefold increase. Both are substantial countertop appliances, and equal listed wattage does not prove equal cooling performance. The comparison specifications are on the Australian Ninja technical listing.
What can it make—and what ingredients work?
Kmart lists slushies, frozen juice, frappes, milkshakes, frozen cocktails and an ice-cream setting. That describes the machine’s presets; it does not mean every recipe will freeze as expected. Its manual says to use chilled liquids or chilled blended mixtures, not hot ingredients, ice, whole fruit, frozen fruit or ice cream added directly to the vessel. Allow time for the chilling cycle rather than expecting an instant blender result.

The manual also gives minimum total sugar guidance: 20g for a 0.5-litre serving and 65g for a 1.6-litre serving. Artificial sweeteners and sugar-free substitutes do not count toward that stated requirement. This matters for diet soft drinks, unsweetened juice and reduced-sugar mixers, which may not produce the expected frozen texture. Follow the recipe guidance rather than assuming a drink suitable for a blender will work here.

For the spiked-slush setting, the manual says premixed alcoholic ingredients such as wine, beer, seltzer or premade cocktails should be between 2.8% and 16% alcohol by volume. For spirits above 35% alcohol, it gives maximum quantities of 0.5 cup in a 0.71-litre recipe and 1 cup in a 1.42-litre recipe. Higher alcohol content can prevent proper freezing, so do not improvise beyond the manual’s limits. Read the Kmart operating manual.

What to know before using or storing it
- Let it stand upright: the manual says to keep the unit upright for at least two hours before operating it.
- Chill ingredients first: load a chilled liquid or chilled blended mixture; do not add hot or frozen ingredients, ice, whole fruit or ice cream directly.
- Measure the batch: stay between the 0.5-litre minimum and 1.6-litre normal maximum. The ice-cream maximum is 1 litre, and the 2-litre vessel capacity is not its usable fill amount.
- Check the recipe: account for the manual’s sugar guidance and, for alcoholic drinks, its alcohol limits before starting.
- Use the matching preset: choose the function for the drink you are making, and allow the machine’s chilling cycle to run.
- Clean as directed: Kmart says parts detach for cleaning. Use the manual’s disassembly and cleaning instructions rather than assuming a quick rinse is sufficient.
At more than 10kg and nearly 40cm wide, the Anko needs a stable countertop and storage space. It is not a small appliance to move casually in and out of a cupboard. Ninja’s official Australian product page also warns that coloured drinks may stain its vessel: Ninja product information.
Why did it attract attention?
The “flying off shelves” description comes from the original October 8, 2025 news cycle, when PerthNow reported high demand after social-media exposure. Its coverage described videos and recipe content from Brisbane creator Cheree Lawrence, known online as Oh So Busy Mum, alongside the appeal of a much cheaper machine than the Ninja. Is the Anko a good alternative to Ninja?
It is best understood as a lower-cost compressor machine for a similar set of frozen-drink uses, not a verified clone. Kmart’s model costs substantially less on the cited listings and has an ice-cream preset; Ninja gives you a larger working fill and a longer stated warranty. The specifications do not establish that the Anko matches Ninja for speed, texture, noise, cleaning ease or durability. The Anko suits buyers who
- Want to spend less on a household compressor frozen-drink maker.
- Can work within a 1.6-litre normal batch and 12-month warranty.
- Will follow the recipe, sugar and alcohol guidance.
- Have enough counter and storage space for a heavy, nearly 40cm-wide appliance.
Ninja may suit buyers who
- Value the extra 0.3 litres of maximum working capacity.
- Prefer the two-year warranty or the Ninja brand and its product documentation.
- Make larger batches often enough to justify the higher listed price.
Consider waiting or choosing neither if
- Your usual drinks are sugar-free or very low in sugar.
- You mainly want small, single-serve batches.
- Counter space is tight or the machine would be used only once or twice a year.
- You need independent evidence on noise or expect restaurant-style results without measuring ingredients.
Is it in stock, and what if Kmart has sold out?
Stock varies by store and delivery postcode, so check the live Kmart product page and local Click & Collect options. The October 2025 sell-out report does not establish availability in 2026. Kmart also lists marketplace slushie makers, including a Devanti 1.8-litre model and an Advwin 1.5-litre upright model. These are different products, sold through marketplace arrangements; confirm the seller, fulfilment terms, specifications and warranty on each listing rather than treating them as Anko equivalents.
