For 2026, the strongest cabinet-paint directions span warm whites, earthy neutrals, soft greens and blues, deep plum-reds, and subtle pinks. They are a useful shortlist, not a measured ranking: no source here establishes the six most popular colors by sales or a representative designer consensus. Instead, the choices below bring together current designer forecasts and paint-maker guidance, with practical advice for matching each family to a real kitchen.
What are the most popular kitchen cabinet paint colors?
Warm whites and off-whites remain the most dependable, broadly supported choice. Alongside them, 2026 design forecasts point toward warm neutrals, soothing greens, soft blues, deep reds such as plum and oxblood, and soft pinks. These are color families rather than six objectively ranked individual shades. The recent trend coverage also points to darker stained wood, but that is a wood finish—not paint.
Paint-company recommendations and designer predictions are useful indicators, but neither is the same as independently measured sales data. Benjamin Moore describes white and off-white as its most popular cabinet-color category and names Chantilly Lace OC-65 and White Dove OC-17 as popular options; that is the maker’s guidance, not a market-wide ranking. Benjamin Moore’s cabinet-color guide and Homes & Gardens’ 2026 designer forecast provide the basis for the six directions below.

Six cabinet-color directions for 2026
1. Warm white and off-white: the adaptable classic
White cabinets have not disappeared from the conversation; newer colors are expanding the options, not proving that white has fallen out of favor. A warm or softened white can keep a kitchen bright while feeling less stark than a crisp, cool white. Benjamin Moore names Chantilly Lace OC-65 and White Dove OC-17 among popular kitchen-cabinet colors, and also highlights Cloud Cover OC-25, Simply White OC-117, and Silver Satin OC-26 as expert favorites. Sherwin-Williams’ kitchen examples include Extra White and Pure White.

Washable and reusable for multiple projects.
Choose among these based on the fixed finishes around them. A crisp white may suit a kitchen with cooler stone or a clean, high-contrast scheme; a softer white can sit more comfortably alongside warm wood, cream-colored counters, or aged brass. The specific shade still needs to be checked in the room, because nearby materials and light affect how it reads.
2. Warm neutrals, greige, taupe, and mushroom: softer than cold white
Warm neutrals offer a grounded alternative to a cool white without the visual commitment of a strong color. Designers cited by Livingetc forecast warm taupes, moody mushroom shades, and greige. The Brownstone Boys point to Farrow & Ball Drop Cloth as a warm neutral that pairs well with natural wood, aged brass, and stone. Sherwin-Williams suggests Whisper SW 9591 and Limewash SW 9589 for a warmer, cozier feel.
This is a broad family, not a single agreed-upon shade. Greige can lean gray or beige; taupe and mushroom can look more brown, pink, or muted depending on the light and neighboring finishes. Sherwin-Williams’ 2026 Color of the Year, Universal Khaki SW 6150, is described as a mid-tone neutral with a slight yellow undertone. Its Color of the Year designation makes it a timely example, not evidence that it is a top-selling cabinet color. Sherwin-Williams’ 2026 color announcement includes the shade details.

3. Soft, soothing greens: a nature-inspired color
Soft greens bring color while retaining an easy connection to natural materials. Interior designer Michelle Gage describes nature-inspired greens as calming and says they pair with wood tones, nickel, and brass. Designer Yena Jung suggests using green on an island or coffee bar when a full set of green perimeter cabinets feels like too much. Sherwin-Williams shows Pewter Green SW 6208 in a kitchen project example.
For an understated result, look for muted, softened greens; for more contrast, use a deeper green on an island and keep the perimeter lighter. Benjamin Moore also lists Aegean Teal 2136-40 as a saturated cabinet option, but it is a blue-green rather than a sage green. Sherwin-Williams’ kitchen-cabinet examples and Benjamin Moore’s cabinet guide show examples from their respective ranges.
4. Soft and light blues: from chalky pale shades to navy
Blue is not one look. Interior designer Bethany Adams predicts soft blues with gray undertones for 2026, describing them as fresh and sophisticated; she suggests brass as a warm contrast. At the other end of the range, Sherwin-Williams names deep Needlepoint Navy SW 0032 as an expert pick and shows Take Five in a designer kitchen. A pale, chalky blue can keep a room feeling airy, while navy makes a stronger statement and may work best on an island or in a kitchen with enough visual balance from lighter surfaces.

Livingetc quotes kitchen designer Tom Howley reporting a 147% increase in blue kitchen sales. The article does not provide a baseline, methodology, or geographic scope, so this is Howley’s attributed observation—not evidence of a 147% industry-wide increase. Livingetc’s 2026 cabinet-color coverage gives the attribution and context.

Designer Mary Beth Sullivan, founder and principal designer of MB Sullivan Design, anticipates plum and oxblood taking center stage in kitchens. These deep gemstone shades are bolder than the other options in this list, but their red-brown and wine undertones can make them feel warm rather than icy. Homes & Gardens notes pairings with unlacquered brass, polished nickel, marble, warm woods, and natural-fiber window treatments. Its example of deep red cabinets with pale pink walls shows one way to keep the overall scheme from feeling heavy.
Consider this family for an island or a smaller run of cabinetry if you want the character of the color without putting it on every cabinet. On full perimeter cabinets, balance the depth with lighter counters, walls, or backsplash materials.

6. Soft pinks: a gentle, individual alternative
The 2026 forecast also identifies a return to soft pink, especially pared-back shades that read almost as warm neutrals. Designer Sean Symington describes pale greens and soft pinks as calm backdrops that leave room for accent color, texture, and detail. Pink is best understood here as an expressive alternative, not a proven bestseller. A dusty, muted pink will usually feel more restrained than a clear or saturated pink, and can be paired with natural wood, warm metals, or restrained stone patterns.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to choose a color for your counters, backsplash, and light
Cabinet color cannot be chosen well in isolation. Benjamin Moore advises taking cues from countertops, backsplash, fixtures, and flooring, and specifically recommends noticing countertop undertones. A counter with warm cream or brown notes may make a cool white look stark; a cool gray stone may make some warm beiges look yellow. Treat the fixed finishes as the starting point, then choose a cabinet color that either harmonizes with their undertones or creates a deliberate contrast.
- Identify what is staying. Note the undertones and visual weight of the countertop, backsplash, floor, and hardware before selecting paint.
- Choose the role for color. Decide whether you want a neutral across all cabinets, a color on the island, or a smaller accent such as a coffee-bar area.
- Compare real samples in the kitchen. Sherwin-Williams recommends testing color chips, peel-and-stick samples, or paint samples in the actual space. Look at them near the counters and backsplash and at different times of day; daylight and surrounding finishes can change the impression.
- Check the finish as well as the hue. Benjamin Moore lists satin, semi-gloss, and high-gloss finishes for cabinets. Its Advance Interior paint is described as durable and as providing a furniture-like finish. Choose the sheen with the cabinet surface and the look you want in mind.
Neither the trend sources nor the paint-maker guides provide measured light-reflectance values for these six color families. The useful comparison is therefore visual: how a sample looks beside your materials and under your kitchen’s own lighting, not a numerical brightness promise.

Which cabinet paint colors are low maintenance?
The available guidance does not establish a maintenance ranking among these six color families, and color alone does not determine how durable a painted cabinet will be. Benjamin Moore describes its Advance Interior paint as durable and recommends satin, semi-gloss, or high-gloss cabinet finishes. Those finish options can be considered separately from the color decision; the sources do not provide a comparative cleaning test or claim that one of the six hues hides wear best.
For planning purposes, make the finish and the color sample two separate decisions. Confirm the paint product is intended for cabinetry, follow its application and curing directions, and consider the sheen alongside the cabinet condition and the amount of use the kitchen gets.
How to read “popular” claims for 2026
“Popular” can mean different things: a paint maker’s frequently recommended shade, a designer’s forecast, or a measured sales trend. The available guidance supports warm white and off-white as a well-established category in Benjamin Moore’s own recommendations, while current designer coverage points to more adventurous additions such as soft blue, green, plum-red, and pink. It does not establish an objective top-six sales ranking across brands, regions, or kitchens.
