Samsung’s 130-inch model is the The Premiere 9 (LPU9D), a 4K ultra-short-throw projector with triple-laser light, Tizen smart-TV software and built-in speakers that Samsung advertises as Dolby Atmos compatible. The less expensive The Premiere 7 (LPU7D) reaches 120 inches. This is a 2024 refresh of Samsung’s Premiere family, which began with the LSP9T and LSP7T in 2020—not a first launch in 2024.
What Samsung actually launched
Samsung announced its original Premiere projectors in the United States on September 29, 2020. The LSP9T supported an image up to 130 inches and the LSP7T up to 120 inches. Samsung listed launch prices of $6,499.99 and $3,499.99 respectively in the 2020 announcement.
In August 2024, Samsung introduced the refreshed Premiere 9 and Premiere 7. Their model numbers are LPU9D and LPU7D. The model split remains important: only the Premiere 9/LPU9D reaches 130 inches.

What the Premiere 9 offers
Triple-laser 4K projection
Samsung markets the LPU9D as a 4K projector with triple-laser technology, HDR10+ support, 4K AI upscaling and Vision Booster, which automatically adjusts brightness and contrast. Samsung’s published specifications state up to 3,450 ISO lumens and 154% DCI-P3 color-volume coverage. Those are manufacturer figures, not independent test results, and ISO lumens should not be compared directly with the older LSP9T’s 2,800 ANSI-lumen rating because the measurement conventions differ. “4K” describes Samsung’s marketed output capability. AI upscaling can process HD or other lower-resolution sources, but it cannot create detail that was absent from the original source. The exact optical implementation and viewing mode matter when judging fine detail, so do not treat upscaling as proof that every input is native 4K.
Smart-TV functions
The projector runs Samsung’s Tizen platform and includes Samsung smart-TV features and Gaming Hub. Streaming subscriptions remain separate, app catalogs vary by country, and software services can change after updates. Samsung says network-based smart services require a Samsung Account and that availability varies; check the U.S. projector lineup or the local Samsung site before buying. An external streaming device may be preferable if you need a particular app, codec or update policy.
What “130-inch” means in a real room
A 130-inch 16:9 picture is approximately 113.3 inches wide by 63.7 inches high, before adding the projector’s own chassis depth. Samsung’s U.S. information indicates roughly 4.4 inches from the wall for a 100-inch image and 9.4 inches for a 130-inch image. Ultra-short throw therefore means close to the wall, not flush against it.

- Use a flat, neutral-colored wall or a screen designed for ultra-short-throw projectors.
- Measure the usable wall area and seating distance; a 130-inch image can exceed an ordinary wall.
- Put the projector on a stable, level surface. Small position changes can alter geometry and require realignment.
- Textured, glossy or uneven walls can cause visible warping, hotspots or softness.
- Direct sunlight and strong ceiling lights wash out dark scenes. Curtains or a UST ambient-light-rejecting screen can help, but a screen adds cost and installation work.
- Plan HDMI, network and power-cable routing before positioning the furniture.

Dolby Atmos: useful built-in sound, not a discrete theater
Samsung advertises Dolby Atmos support on both 2024 models. The Premiere 9 uses a 40-watt, 2.2.2-channel system with up-firing speakers; the Premiere 7 uses 30-watt, 2.2-channel audio. The up-firing effect depends on ceiling height and reflectivity, room shape and seating position.
That can be a substantial convenience improvement over ordinary television speakers, but Dolby Atmos processing is not the same as a full system with separately placed front, center, surround and overhead speakers. A soundbar, AV receiver or separate speakers remain worthwhile when you need stronger bass, clearer dialogue, a large-room soundstage or convincing overhead effects. Samsung’s “no additional sound equipment required” language means the projector can function by itself, not that it matches a dedicated theater.

Projector versus a very large television
Why choose the projector
- A 120-to-130-inch picture creates a larger cinematic field of view than most living-room TVs.
- The chassis sits inches from the wall instead of requiring a ceiling mount or long throw distance.
- Laser illumination avoids regular lamp replacement.
- Tizen software and integrated speakers provide an all-in-one starting point.
Why choose the television
- OLED and other emissive displays generally deliver deeper blacks and more consistent contrast in a bright room.
- A TV is usually simpler to install and less sensitive to wall flatness and alignment.
- Daytime viewing is more predictable without curtains or a specialized screen.
- The projector, UST screen, installation and optional audio can cost more than a smaller but brighter large-screen TV.
There is no universal winner. The Premiere makes the most sense when image scale is the priority and the room can be controlled; a large TV is safer when convenience, daylight performance and contrast matter more.
Choosing between the models
Premiere 9
Choose the LPU9D if you genuinely need 130 inches, want Samsung’s highest stated brightness and color coverage, and can justify triple-laser pricing. It is best suited to a controlled-light living room or dedicated theater with a suitable screen.

Premiere 7
The LPU7D preserves the ultra-short-throw format and Tizen experience at a lower price, but tops out at 120 inches and has lower stated brightness, color coverage and speaker power. It is a stronger value when 120 inches is enough and the room is reasonably dark.
Choose a TV instead
Prefer a large TV if your room stays bright, you want the simplest installation, or your priority is reference-like contrast rather than maximum picture size.

On August 18, 2026, Samsung’s U.S. pages listed the LPU9D at $5,999.99 and showed it out of stock. The LPU7D page listed $2,999.99 and displayed a temporary $500 instant saving, or $2,499.99; availability was limited in the displayed ZIP-code context. Check the LPU9D product page and LPU7D product page for current regional pricing and stock. Prices, promotions, tax, delivery and installation are not evergreen.

Older LSP9T and LSP7T units may appear as clearance or third-party stock. ProjectorCentral identifies both as discontinued in February 2025; verify warranty, return rights, model condition and seller support before buying: ProjectorCentral’s LSP7T listing.
Bottom line for buyers
The Premiere 9 is a compelling low-footprint way to get a 130-inch-class image, integrated smart features and functional Atmos-compatible audio. It is not a guaranteed replacement for a premium TV in a bright room or for a dedicated projector, screen and surround system. Budget for light control, careful alignment and possibly a UST screen and external audio; then choose the LPU9D for maximum scale and performance claims or the LPU7D when 120 inches and a lower price are sufficient.
