Xiaomi launched its TV Master 86-inch Mini LED in mainland China on April 18, 2023—not in 2026. The 4K television combines a QD-Mini LED backlight with 1,080 dimming zones, a claimed peak brightness of up to 2,000 nits and a refresh rate of up to 144Hz. Xiaomi also introduced a new picture-processing engine, though its image-quality claims were not independent test results.
Launch date and historical price
Xiaomi previewed the television on April 16, formally launched it in China on April 18, 2023, and began sales on April 21. The reported standard price was ¥15,999; an initial launch promotion brought it to ¥14,999. These are historical mainland-China prices, not evidence of a current price or stock. Display specifications and what they mean
The headline features combine LCD hardware, a local-dimming backlight and image processing. Xiaomi’s interim report identifies the model as a China-market QD-Mini LED television with up to 2,000 nits peak brightness. The other specifications below were reported in Chinese launch coverage. Xiaomi’s corporate materials confirm the market and brightness claim; ITHome reports the display details.

Mini LED is still LCD
Mini LED describes the television’s backlight, not its pixels. The LCD panel forms the image, while groups of small LEDs behind it can be dimmed in zones. Compared with a conventional LCD backlight, this can provide finer control over bright and dark areas and support high HDR brightness. But 1,080 zones are not 1,080 individually controlled pixels: a zone covers many pixels, and the LCD panel, optics, algorithm and viewing angle all affect black levels and halos around bright objects.

Peak brightness and contrast figures need context
“Up to 2,000 nits” is a peak-brightness specification, not a guarantee of sustained brightness across the whole screen. The approximately 6.7 million:1 figure is an advertised dynamic-contrast ratio, not a substitute for a standardized independent measurement. The specifications alone do not establish how the set handles blooming, color accuracy or HDR highlights in real viewing.
What Xiaomi meant by enhanced picture quality
Xiaomi introduced a self-developed Master Picture Quality Engine, describing it as a rebuild of its picture-processing algorithms. The company associated it with improved color accuracy, tone control, consistency and finer control of the local-dimming backlight. It also promoted “multi-screen color consistency” when showing content from Xiaomi phones and tablets. These are manufacturer claims; the cited launch coverage does not provide independent colorimeter results or measurements of blooming and black levels. It is useful to separate the three parts of that pitch:
- Hardware: the QD-Mini LED backlight, 1,080 zones, claimed peak brightness and 144Hz panel.
- Processing: the Master Picture Quality Engine and its control of color, tone and dimming.
- Marketing language: claims of professional-grade accuracy or OLED-like blacks, which are not established as measured performance by the launch reports.
Gaming support and port caveat
The 144Hz panel, HDMI 2.1, variable-refresh-rate support and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro make the TV gaming-focused on paper. Chinese launch coverage also reported Dolby Vision gaming support and compatibility with current-generation Xbox consoles. However, the available launch reports do not provide a complete port-bandwidth table. They mention two HDMI 2.1 ports, but do not establish that every port or input combination supports 4K at 144Hz. Check the exact port specifications and supported signal modes before buying for a particular console or PC setup. Gizmochina’s report covers the gaming claims.

Audio, processor and connectivity
Launch coverage describes a 70W, 3.1-channel built-in system with nine speaker units, a dedicated 20W subwoofer and a separate center channel, with Dolby Atmos and DTS:X support. Those figures describe the hardware and formats, not independently tested sound quality or an equivalent to a full external surround system.
Reported computing hardware includes a quad-core ARM Cortex-A73 processor, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. The TV used Xiaomi’s China-market software and supported Mijia smart-home integration. Launch reports list two HDMI 2.1 ports, one HDMI 2.0 port, USB 3.0 and USB 2.0, optical audio, Ethernet, antenna/DTMB input, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.2. A voice remote with NFC was also reported. Coverage differs in how it summarizes connections, so confirm the exact specification for the individual unit. ITHome’s specifications report provides the reported hardware details.

How it differed from Xiaomi’s earlier 82-inch Mini LED TV
Xiaomi’s earlier Mi TV Master 82-inch Mini LED, introduced in 2020, used an 8K display and included 5G connectivity. The 2023 86-inch model had a larger screen but reduced resolution to 4K, while emphasizing 144Hz gaming, a newer picture engine and a lower price position than the earlier premium model. It was therefore not an upgrade in resolution; it shifted the emphasis toward refresh rate, brightness and gaming. Gizmochina’s launch report discusses the comparison.

Availability outside mainland China
The confirmed launch market was mainland China. The available launch information does not establish official US, European or Indian availability. Xiaomi’s corporate report identifies the product as a China launch in April 2023; the company’s presentation provides that market context.

For an overseas buyer, importing an 86-inch China-market television can involve practical constraints beyond shipping:
- Chinese-market software may not include the streaming services, language options or platform familiar in the buyer’s region.
- Warranty coverage, tuner standards, power requirements and plug compatibility need to be checked for the specific unit and destination.
- Freight, customs, taxes, installation and damage-in-transit risks can materially affect the total cost.
- Measure doorways, lifts, stairs and the installation space in advance; confirm wall capacity and bracket compatibility, and use trained installers for a screen of this size.
- For high-refresh gaming, verify the supported input mode and use a cable appropriate to the required signal.
What the specifications establish—and what they do not
The reported figures make the TV a high-specification large-screen LCD on paper: it combines Mini LED local dimming, high stated peak brightness and a high refresh rate. They do not, by themselves, prove a particular level of color accuracy, low input lag, sustained HDR brightness, blooming control or audio performance. Those judgments require independent testing, which the launch reports cited here do not provide.
The product’s fit also depends on the buyer’s priorities. Its size, HDR-focused backlight and gaming features may suit someone seeking a very large display for a bright room or fast-refresh gaming. A viewer prioritizing pixel-level black control, verified image accuracy, broadly supported local streaming apps or simple regional warranty service should treat those as unresolved trade-offs rather than assume the specifications answer them.
