For an instrumental track, write prompts that specify arrangement, groove, instruments, energy and a clean space for dialogue or ambience. For a vocal track, define the lyric idea, vocal role, delivery, structure and any language requirement. Suno and Udio both support vocal and instrumental creation, but their editing and export situations differ. The comparison below shows where each tool fits before you write a prompt.
Instrumental And Vocal Prompting Are Different Jobs
An instrumental prompt describes music that must carry its identity without a singer. Include the intended use, tempo feel, core instruments, section movement and production space. For example: “Instrumental electronic cue for a smart-home product demo, mid-tempo pulse, warm bass, muted plucks, restrained drums, eight-bar intro, lift at the midpoint, clean ending, no vocals.” “No vocals” states the requirement directly; the other details give the generator material to organize.
A vocal prompt has another layer: the words and the performance. State whether you want a solo lead, a group response, a spoken phrase or a wordless hook, then describe the emotional delivery and song structure. Example: “Vocal indie-pop song about a home that learns a family’s routine, intimate verse, wider chorus, clear English lead, optimistic but not theatrical, short instrumental bridge.” If the service accepts separate lyrics, put exact wording there and use the style prompt for arrangement and delivery.
For either type, keep one prompt focused on one outcome. Name the audience or scene, then specify musical ingredients, then constraints. If a detail matters for publishing, confirm it in the product’s current terms because the entries here do not establish identical rights for every plan.

Suno For A Complete Song That Can Be Reworked

Describe drums, bassline, melodic role, energy curve and the point where the arrangement should open up. Rights And Consent Checks Before Publishing
Do not assume that a vocal prompt grants permission to imitate a real person. Obtain consent for any voice reference, recorded vocal or voice-cloning input, and follow the platform’s terms. - Structure: list the opening, section changes, bridge or break, climax and ending.
- Production constraints: request sparse density, a clean intro, a short loop or another concrete need.
- Revision target: after generation, name one change at a time, such as “reduce drums in the verse” or “make the chorus vocal more intimate.”
